    And in low light this camera is phenomenal. Not in comparison to a Dslr but as far as a pro camera it's great. Needs less than half the light of let's say Red Epic would need

      @Lucy Fur I end up getting the JVC LS300 but not so happy with it. The lcd is really bad and the ND Filter button is right where you hold the camera if you try to do handheld more often you will be moving it without noticing.

    At 4:04 you accidentally say "This is not an outdoor camera" - sort of threw me for a moment, other than that an interesting and helpful review all these years later - we're using the Raw upgrade version and as far as low light goes, a decent prime lens more than makes up for that little foible.

    Great review Will. I think you should have a meeting with Sony and give them a few home truths. RCA? Jeepers, that's 80's! XLRs peppered around the camera makes a mess, pair them together like a professional unit. Silly frame frame rates that are useless, just be honest Sony and and say it works well up to 120 in 4k or 240 in 1080p.. cheers from Ireland :)

    Hi Will
    I am a film student and I am working on a short film by using FS700, I feel nervous as a director because my director of photography is not a professional person , therefore I have no idea on how I should set up my FS700, I mainly film in a theatre which only contains strong spot lights point to the stage, some wide shot and close up shot to capture protagonist on the stage under spot light, some really weak lighting situation of the audience seat, mainly capture facial expression from audience, so may I ask what it should be the setting for that?

    Great points Will. One question. Regarding low light performance, did you try this cam with a faster prime lens? If so, how good is it for indoors...? Thanks!

    • @WillBrown
      @WillBrown  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Jorge Martínez I've used various fast lenses on this camera such as the Canon 70-200mm f/2.8, 50mm f/1.4, and the 50mm f/1.2. The camera will perform pretty well with those lenses in low light if you crank them all the way open and are using the S-Log 2 picture profile. However, they still don't eliminate all noise.

    Thank you for the thorough and honest review. I have been looking at the fs700 for a couple months and everyone just praises it. The negatives that you mentioned are very important to me. I am sitting on an 80d which has phenomenal AD and I have put a lot in to glass. Now that I have established myself a bit, I want to step up my game. I am hoping the rumors of the C200 are legit. That being said, I am open to any suggestions, my bread and butter is Wedding Videography. I have been doing more and more corporate stuff and Comic Con. Any suggestions under $5000?
    thanks again for your review.

    Regarding the RCA outputs...remember you are doing this review about 4 years after it came out. RCA was relevant in 2011

    • @WillBrown
      @WillBrown  8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      +Ian Grogan True, this camera is 4 years old, however RCAs still aren't a relevant output source on a camera that was meant to shoot 4K video. Using RCAs you can't even output full 1080p HD video. And actually, HDMI was the big rave during that time so I'm still not really sure why Sony felt RCAs were an acceptable output. They could have used that space for 2 additional HDMI outputs, but it is what it is.

    • @FranklynGrant
      @FranklynGrant 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Agreed,...

    • @elfman121
      @elfman121 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      I've owned this camera for 4 years and it's been fantastic. I have only used the RCA outputs once, when quickly integrating this camera for an event shoot at a church that only had an analog video switcher. It saved having to buy or use an HDMI-to-Analog converter. And the camera was originally released only shooting 2K, with the "tease" of future 4K recording. It took almost 2 years to make that upgrade available to send 4K out of the SDI connection, which opened this camera up to be a real 4K Raw beast with recorders like the 7Q. It's still my main camera 4 years later, that's saying something!

  • @AlexisRobbie

    If you are coming from a Dslr then this camera may be inconvenient because it's designed to be a b camera to professional video cameras and therefore they make it for ops use to using larger cameras

    This or FS5?

    • @WillBrown
      @WillBrown  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      If you have the budget, go for the FS5. It's size and weight along with a few other key features like auto variable ND filters make it a much better camera overall. However, the FS700 is still a great camera that can get the job done on almost any shoot. It's actually a great way to save a few extra dollars too!

    • @AkshayRathee
      @AkshayRathee 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Will Brown Thanks for the valuable advice. I would like to go with the fs5 too. One more quick question. Can they both shoot slow motion at the same frame rates or is FS700 better ?

    • @WillBrown
      @WillBrown  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      They both have the same slow-motion capabilities, however there are two key differences between the cameras when it comes to slow-motion. Shooting slow motion on the FS5 is a little tedious if you plan on switching back and forth in between 4K and slow motion modes. You have to dig into the menu to change the record settings every time you want to make the switch, without the ability to set a custom function button to achieve that task. However, on the flip side, the FS5 allows you to shoot 240fps at 1080 P with 4:2:2 10 bit color space, while the FS700 only allows for an 8 bit color space. So in other words, the FS5 gives you a little bit of an edge when it comes to color correction/grading and detail, along with better low light slow-motion capabilities.

    • @AkshayRathee
      @AkshayRathee 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Will Brown Thank you so much for your response. It was very insightful. I think I am gonna get the FS5.
