    Great coverage of the basic functions of the camera. Very useful. Would be great if you could do another in-depth tutorial about more advanced options like picture profiles, etc.

      I use the same cam along an external recorder O7Q+ and a B4 Angenieux zoom lens. I am currently in pre prod for a short film. Can keep you posted if you are interested. Cheers

    It's an Ikan IBS-1170. It had a lower price and better published specs than the largest Sony, but I'm not sure it's better. I bought it with the camera about 18 months ago and it seems to be losing capacity quicker than I would hope.

    What would you recommend under $200 in 2020?

      I would get a cell phone with a good video camera and buy some accessories, like a mini-tripod. You might get the accessories for under $200.

    So I used this camera for the first time the other week (really wish I had watched your video first now) I was shooting an interview where we had 3 point lighting set up however I was using another camera for cutaways where I had to increase the ISO as otherwise it would have been way too dark, but this meant when looking at the footage I saw that it came out incredibly grainy, was there another way to do this? the f stop was the lowest it could be too, which lets more light in if I am correct?

    • @TonalVisionLLC
      @TonalVisionLLC  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Rebecca - Are you saying the other camera looked grainy, or the FS700? Cameras handle low light differently and some are much worse than others. You are correct about a low F stop letting in more light. If you followed the directions re ISO settings (~9-11 minutes in the video), you should get OK results with the FS700 in low light. As Frank says, if it's still too dark, you need more light.
      If you are trying to figure out how to deal with grainy footage after the fact, there are actually some excellent noise reduction plug-ins out there that can be a life-saver. Do a little research for one that will work with your editing software. The one I found really slows down my computer, but if it's a choice between letting the plug-in chew on the footage for a while vs. total embarrassment, I'll give up the speed.

    what's the diffrent gain & iso ? what it's mean ?

    • @TonalVisionLLC
      @TonalVisionLLC  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Seven - sorry, I just noticed this. For some reason, TH-cam doesn't always let me know of comments.
      Gain is a term used with video cameras. It refers to a boost in brightness that the camera does as it records. Videographers avoid using more gain than necessary because it also boosts noise. ISO originated in the days when cameras used physical film. Film stock with higher ISO needed less light. When cameras went digital, ISO related to the sensitivity of the image sensor to light. In the Sony NEX-FS700, the two are essentially the same, and there is a switch to select which one you want to display. If you come from a photography background, you are probably more comfortable thinking in terms of ISO. If you come from a videography background, you are probably used to gain.
