This was another very enjoyable reaction. This is quickly becoming one if not the favorite Dimash performance for me and it invokes a very visceral response in me, just as "Ave Maria" did. I believe this actually was a live performance in that Dimash sang "Ikanaide" live for the Tokyo Jazz Festival Live stream in January of 2021 as it was being recorded. As someone else pointed out, he performed Ikanaide from his studio in Beijing where he was going through a month of quarantine before taking part in the “Shine Super Brothers” TV show. According to several native Japanese speakers, Dimash's pronunciation of the lyrics is nearly flawless. One native speaker, who gave a detailed analysis, stated that he is "expressing Japanese more (better) than Japanese" and that he does not only perfectly pronounce Japanese but "expresses Japanese…with Japanese emotion.". Goro Matsui, who wrote the lyrics to "Ikanaide," posted on his Twitter account that he has never heard a foreigner sing in Japanese in such a beautiful way. Tamaki Kōji composed the music and performed the song in 1989. "Ikanaide" became the title song for the Chinese-Japanese TV series "Farewell, Li Xianglan," filmed that year. It is the story of Yoshiko Yamaguchi, a beloved Chinese-born Japanese actress and singer during World War II who hid her Japanese heritage under the name Li XIanglan. Following the war, when the Chinese became aware of her Japanese heritage, she was accused of being a spy and sentenced to death by firing squad for treason and collaboration with the Japanese; she had been involved in the production of Japanese propaganda films. Thanks to the intervention of influential friends, she was cleared of all charges but urged to leave China or risk being lynched. She resettled in Japan, where she would continue to enjoy a successful acting career. In the 1950s, she moved her acting career to Hollywood and Broadway under the name Shirley Yamaguchi but returned to Japan in 1959, retiring from acting. She would go on to become a TV presenter and eventually a politician. She did not return to China for nearly 20 years. In 1990, "Ikanaide" was translated into Cantonese and sung by Jacky Cheung using the same melody. Later, the song was rewritten and translated for Jacky Cheung to Mandarin under the title "Late Autumn." In 2004 the Taiwanese singer Terry Lin adapted the song into a new version titled "In Deep Autumn," with lyrics written by Daryl Yao. Dimash chose the 2004 Taiwanese version arranged by Terry Lin with Mandarin lyrics for his performance at the 2017 "I Am A Singer" competition but gave it his own interpretation and titled it "Autumn Strong." This song went on to earn Dimash the "Best Foreign Singer" award during the Golden Melody Award in Hong Kong. Here are the original lyrics to "Ikanaide": Ikanaide (ee-kanaa-eedayy) Please Don't Go Away by Koji Tamaki Nothing visible, nothing I have been crying throughout Not because I feel sorrowful But because of the delight of feeling your warmth
Ah… Please don't go away, please don't go away Please don't ever ever let us separate Ah… Please don't go away, please don't go away Let's remain this way
Someday your heart will be somewhere afar That everything will turn into memory Though it's better not to know Though it's better not to know
Ah… Please don't go away, please don't go away Whenever it is, don't let us separate Ah… Please don't go away, please don't go away Let's remain this way
As others have said, there is another version, called Autumn Strong, slightly different lyrics, in mandarin. The Kiev performance of Autumn Strong has a different special ending. At the Dubai concert which I was at, Dimash sings autumn strong as a first half of a song, then changes to Ikenaide as the second half. That satisfies anyone who prefers one version to the other,
Omg!! Ave Maria is my favorite performance DImash has ever done. I play it on repeat on Spotify every single day. It's so beautiful and touching. Spoken very well for a song with no words.
There is no one on earth like Dimash. He does this song in Mandarin as well and it is called Autumn Strong. He first did it at the age of 22 on The Singer. It is a wonderful performance.
@@phantasmagoricfate Please do it as a reaction if you haven't already listened to it. This version "Ikanaide" (行かないで) ) is the original, from 1989, composed by Koji Tamaki (famous Japanese singer, born in 1958) with lyrics by Goro Matsui. The version "Autumn Strong" (Late Autumn), sung in Chinese, uses the same song, but has another lyrics (Yaqui Cheung, from 1993) and another theme: It talks about the Japanese actress Yoshiko Yamagushi, very dear to the Chinese, who was deported when they discovered her Japanese origin (his real name was Li Xiang Lan and we're talking about World War II, where Japan was China's enemy) and never returned to China. Hello Heather, others below have given you some excellent information regarding “Ikanaide.” I just thought you’d be interested in a few additional observations. The song Ikanaide was first performed by Koji Tamaki in 1989, with lyrics written by Goro Matsui. Ikanaide (Please Don't Go Away) was written specifically as a love story. It is a masterpiece in composition, orchestral execution, and song. Koji's singing is filled with pain, sadness, and yearning. Dimash’s version follows the original very closely. Koji Tamaki, and Goro Matsue have complimented Dimash on his performance. Goro Matsue has expressed interest in collaborating with Dimash. Koji Tamaki is in his late 60’s and continues to perform in concerts today. In late 1989 Ikanaide was adopted as the title song for a Chinese-Japanese TV series Farewell, Lixianglan. This series is a true story about a Japanese woman Yoshiko Yamaguchi (12 February 1920-7 September 2014) born in China and accused of being spy and put on trial, nearly executed, but eventually was set free and went back to Japan, living a long and peaceful life. Yoshiko Yamaguchi was a very compelling person: she was born in China to Japanese parents, grew up and became a prominent singer and actress loved by the Chinese. Li Xianglan was her Chinese name. After WWII, her Japanese heritage was uncovered and she was deported to Japan, narrowly avoiding execution. She was heartbroken, as China had always been her homeland and Japan was foreign to her. The lyrics for Ikanaide serve as a reflection of her parting from her birthplace and the Chinese who loved her. We’re pretty excited, just found out Koji Tamaki is scheduled to perform later this year in Osaka. We live in Kobe which is only 12 minutes away by Bullet Train (Shinkansen). Best wishes from Japan…!
If you listen to him sing Autumn Strong/Late Autumn its the same music with different lyrics as it was converted into Chinese Mandarin in the early 1990s and Dimash sings that version more often than the Japanese version. He sang it first in 2017 in the Chinese competition show, I Am a Singer Season 5. Although i think in Prague he sang a mix of both. Lol.
Kōji Tamaki is a Japanese singer-songwriter of Ikanaide and Dimash performed a previous version in Chinese called Autumn strong th-cam.com/video/FXQ58U-Eddg/w-d-xo.html this song is based in a true story about Yoshiko Yamaguchi who was born in China, hid her japanese heritage under a chinese name, became very loved. After WWII, her heritage was exposed, she was arrested, accused of being a japanese spy, and sentenced to death. She was ultimately cleared of charges, but was advised to leave the country, as she risked being lynched. Dimash is a master of the story-telling, his voice makes you feel deep emotions and takes you there where that song happened. Beautiful!! A Japanese reactor mentioned that his softness with the hard consonants is a function of how well Dimash understands and has learned the mechanics (tongue and jaw placement) of the Japanese language. It's something very difficult for native English speakers to do. ❤️🎤🔝🔝🌹🌹👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏

How he has built connections between people from all across the globe through his music. I would wish him the best of luck and prosperity in this life. What would you do if you met Dimash?

I do appreciate you taking the time to share these additional observations. This is very helpful to know.
Lol.
This sounds great! I will give it a listen. Thank you!

HEATHER SEARCH THE SONG OF FESTIVAL JAZZ IN JAPAN 2020 CALL ( SAMALTAU ) IS AMAZING , FROM PORTUGAL WITH LOVE .
Thank you for sharing this additional information! It is helpful to know the background of this particular song. It is both heartbreaking and moving.

What will you do if you met him? 😅😊
This is an excellent question! If I met Dimash, I would do my best to be respectful toward him and whomever accompanies him. If given the opportunity, I would thank him for his work and how he has brought such joy, inspiration, hope, loyalty, gratitude, care, and love to others. How he has built connections between people from all across the globe through his music. I would wish him the best of luck and prosperity in this life. What would you do if you met Dimash?
