American orders food in perfect Chinese and Vietnamese, shocks locals 🇻🇳

  • 🇻🇳 While exploring Hai Phong for the last few days, I happened to notice one special Chinese restaurant called "大姐水饺“ - Big Sister Dumpings - written in giant Chinese characters. I was somewhat skeptical. I've had a lot of Chinese food in Vietnam, and it's often a big letdown. Still, I wanted to give it a try. Little did I know I'd end up finding the best, most authentic northeastern (东北) Chinese food I've ever had outside of China. Not only that, I got to speak in Mandarin with the staff there - some Vietnamese, some Chinese. They shocked me even more when they switched to English and started talking. This may have been the most linguistically-diverse restaurant I've ever visited in northern Vietnam. A fun one for sure. Hope you enjoy!
The address of the restaurant is: 12 Văn Cao, Đằng Giang, Ngô Quyền, Hải Phòng, Vietnam. Definitely visit if you're in Hai Phong!

This is a super advanced food show - speaking the local languages, knowing the geography, knowing the dishes and explaining how they compare to the American version, explaining the nostalgia of the food, describing the occasions the foods or drinks are consumed for. Totally advanced channel.

I don't know about his Chinese but as a native Vietnamese speaker, I can confirm that Chris' Vietnamese is pretty much perfect with a Northern accent. If I close my eyes, and listen to him talk, I wouldn't be able to tell he's not native. That is incredible when you learn a new language as an adult.

Funny and cool to hear three languages at the same times, it's a like a "lẫu" of languages. As I do speak/understand English/Vietnamese and kind of learning Chinese on the side, too, (and like all kinds of foods too) it's interesting clip for me.

Thanks Chris, I appreciate your response. Then it must be the place when my grand parent stayed for a while after leaving China. I feel sorry for them as it must be hard for them to settle in a new country without the language, it must be the place when my Dad was born. I personally haven't been in Hai Phong at all, you are a lucky man.
