Marion Davies and William Randolph Hearsty did have a "LOVE" child her name was Patricia Van Cleeve (who was married to Arthur Lake who played Dagwood Bumstead in the film series Blondie), was always introduced as the niece of Marion Davies. After Patricia's death on October 3, 1993, her will revealed she was indeed the "love child" of Davies and her long-time love, Hearst. Perhaps Mary Astor who worked with Marion in the comedy Page Miss Glory (1935, Warner Brothers), summed up the off-screen Marion best: "She was not sharp and inquisitive, nor was she a dumb blonde. She was bright and funny. Her warmth and kindness could have taught many of us a great deal about the art of loving."

I remember reading about Patricia Van Cleeve but I believe the Hearst estate denied paternity? And yes Marion Davies was incredibly bright, her impressions of other actresses were spot-on, and she even could emulate the subtle Garbo. Unfortunately Davies took to drinking when Hearst was not around, and that's partly why alcohol was not permitted at his California estate (and maybe why Pepi was so interested in it, forbidden fruit). Davies hawked her jewelry to get Hearst out of debt (over $1 million). Some of her jewelry occasionally comes up at auction, including tiger's eyes. I think part of the reason Pepi was asked to return to the U.S. from London was due to Hearst's declining fortune in the 1930s.

Just started watching. I've always heard she was Marion Davies and Hearst's daughter.

Lots of rumors but she was Marion Davies' niece. There are records of Pepi's activity before Marion met Hearst so she was not their daughter, but Reine's daughter.

The niece in question was Patricia Van Cleeve (Lake), not Pepi.

In that Adolph Menjou photo, you can see Chaplin's wife, Paulette Goddard and next to her is Sid Grauman of celebrity cement print fame. I'm not sure who the woman is in the photo with Pepi in a bathrobe style outfit, but it's not Marion Davies. The three most mesmerizing silent screen actresses to watch are Davies, Brooks, and Clara Bow. The camera really loved all three of them. Another interesting Hearst/Davies story is of their illegitimate daughter, Patricia Lake, who married Arthur Lake of "Dagwood" fame in the "Blondie" movie series.

Thank you. I believe the Hearst estate denied that Patricia Lake was Hearst's/Davies' illegitimate daughter

Where do you get all this gossip? I have never heard of this.

Not gossip, my sources are listed in the video description. Louise Brooks' Lulu in Hollywood autobiography goes into detail of her friendship with Pepi and Pepi's last days. Hearst Castle also contains information about the relationship between Pepi and her aunt. Check out the source links!

I'm pretty sure Charlie Chaplin wasn't Jewish.

He was, his contemporary Einstein remarked on it, and Chaplin gave an interview about it to the Neue Freie Presse in 1931.

Why is the term "notorious" always used to describe any historical biography of a gay woman? It's a lazy stereotype. Pepi Lederer was not notorious, by any stretch of the imagination. She was simply a young woman trying to make her way in the world. She was also a rape victim. To use the term notorious to decribe her is simply disrespectable. It is my hope that the producer of this documentary removes this word from her description of Pepi.

Perhaps the drug addiction, alcoholism and hanging out with low lifes had something to do with the description.
