Is the Toyota Land Cruiser V8 really the ultimate SUV? REVIEW

  • Mat's got his hands on the V8-powered Toyota Land Cruiser! It's one of the biggest SUVs on the road, and it dwarfs the Prado edition we receive in the UK! On the surface, it may seem almost identical to the 2009 edition, but given it's got a 5.7-litre V8 under the bonnet that'll produce 381hp and almost 550Nm of torque, does it really matter? Well, it certainly might when you consider it costs $85,000! Join Mat for a closer look at this super-sized SUV!

      Stormwatch153 Would you clarify, please?
Anyway, to elaborate, for $75K, you get an Alexa-like infotainment system, hybrid system, smoother ride to be more all terrain, and better accleration and handling, because the batteries are in the rear creating a more balanced weight distribution. All those things Toyota does not have. I can have more fun driving the GLS and in a couple of years spend the savings on fixing those things, though hybrids are supposed to be more reliable than an ICE-only car.

Favourite doesn't necessarily mean best in class. I've always consider Toyota old fashioned and basic which is one of the reasons why they are a bit more reliable than your average vehicle. But to be honest here in Australia I believe people buy these vehicles blindly due to brand name only because as far as I'm concerned the LandCruiser, Prado and Hilux have one of the ugliest plastic interiors when compared to other manufacturers.

This thing must be able to fall on some rocks to the underbody without it sacking through this axels or have fluids leaking. I don't think it's completely down to that and as new most of the driving done in these is on regular roads and be the "safe choice" for school runs and just look good and as a status symbol (at least here in Finland where every car costs a shitload of money)... At least here these go to be used on forest roads and offroading after they're 10-15 years old... not many dare to use them offroad before their value has decently dropped... Might be part of the reason IMHO

People only really appreciate them when they get in because of the build quality and materials. Plus! Porsche’s are very reliable despite being German, sure there’s the occasional one that craps out but I’m afraid there is the occasional Toyota that does that too.

Nothing beats this off-roader King and it’s been tested and tested for decades in Australian’s vast harsh land, from snowy mountains to sunshine beach, from Simpson desert to top end rainforest, from remote mining camps to large farm lands, from towing heavy caravan or a fishing boat to a weekend kids footy drop off, it’s truely an unbreakable SUV. Thanks to Toyotas superb reliability and strong resale value it’s worth every penny ( top spec model costs AUD $120k here similar price to a BMW X5) !! Really looking forward to the next series maybe later this year so I can replace my Hilux. Thanks for the video mate and stay safe.

With the Land Cruiser, you're paying for the Heritage and Insane reliability.
For the BMW x7, you're paying for the brand name and the technology inside it. But it will depreciate insanely fast

unlike some other cars you need to use the power tailgate. it can also be manually operated two. most cars with with these powered tailgates such as some land rovers, damage may occur. the land cruiser is design for approx 25 yrs where as most cars are for ten or less. also if your in Australia there is a 70 series version and with either a 4.somthing liter v8 or a 4.5 twin turbo diesel v8 with 650nm

    14:52 actually there are 4 engine choices: 4.0 V6 petrol, 4.5 V8 diesel, 4.6 and 5.7 V8 petrols (depending on market).
The V6 and diesel are available with a 5-speed manual, too.
    Also, no off-roading?

Being a rover fan, iam seriously say that land cruiser is a big daddy of all suv's in the world. This is not a technologically advanced car but a machine has kinda supreme capability in all terrain and a long lasting durability too.
