    The hot sauces in this video shortchanged the Tryers and honked me off. Especially the one labeled 'chipotle.' All chipotle chiles are smoked jalapeños. That's it. Yet when Gríanne read the ingredients, the only pepper I heard was 'habanero,' which is a completely different thing.

    These pepper challenges crack me up. For the record, ghost pepper is alright but since I am from the country (Moruga, Trinidad) where Scorpion peppers are grown and made, a nice sauce made with Butch T Scorpion peppers roasted in the sun will be a REAL challenge! But then again we add other ingredients to our pepper sauces so it's more flavorful and it also helps raise the heat.

    2:45 Actually Chipotle peppers ARE Jalepeno peppers, they're simply smoked and dried.
    6:34 Ghost peppers have a fairly unique flavor actually. Fruity and sweet chili flavor, the fact that they're spicy doesn't have much to do with the flavor profile they have and you can cut the spice level by simply using the fruit itself subtracting the ribs and seeds which contain most of the heat in a pepper. So yes, there could be people that simply enjoy the flavor of ghost peppers.

    @GrumpyOldBastard ปีที่แล้ว +9

    You are absolutly correct Clare there is no point to a hot sauce without flavor, any one can add enough capsaicin extract to make something inedible just to make someone suffer. A true pepper fan flavor comes first, knowing how the individual peppers effect the palate. Done correctly one can literally walk the heat from lips to back of the throat. However even the crew that didn't enjoy the heat you have all come a long way from the first Try spicy food video.

    • @andrewft31

      Capsaicin extracts taste horrible....tastes like chemicals.
      There is an art to enjoying super hot peppers to actually appreciate the flavors. If you are not accustom to spicy food you won’t notice the flavor. You will be overwhelmed by the pain of the heat and won’t notice the flavor.

    Love this. Thing is, most of the hot sauces out there do have flavor but if you are not accustomed to the heat you won't sense it. Once your mouth has acclimatized to heat you can start to discern the taste. I'm someone who will eat peppers by themselves up to habanero level, preferably roasted. It takes time but you can build up to it slowly over months in steps. My personal collection of hot sauces had 93 bottles at it's peak so I've some experience with this. Clare is proof of my point, she's the best tolerance for the heat out of the bunch and she enjoyed the flavors the most.

    The thing I like about ghost peppers is that while the heat does come up and slap your tongue out of nowhere, it fades just as fast.

    A follow-up video of each of the vic - I mean participants, about 10 o'clock the next morning, would be fun but only if viewers did the challenge at the same time so they could co-miserate.

    Question for you - when you serve hot sauce on wings like this, do you add butter or is it just wings coated in pure sauce? I ask because the standard buffalo wing recipe is Frank's Red Hot + Butter, then use that to coat the wings. In my opinion it helps to bring out the true flavors in the sauce because there are some flavors only soluble in water, alcohol, or fat. It also helps to carry the heat because many spicy components are more soluble in fat than water or vinegar, so you'll get more of a punch from the hotter sauces.

    I guess I’m with Niall when it comes to hot sauces - my go to regular is the Sriracha sauce. In my younger days, I would be stupid and eat the hottest thing I could find but now, I just want a sauce that is flavorful but still offers a spicy kick. If I ever feel the need to burn my lips off my face without any flavor, I’ll eat a lit match.
