for starters a lot of the sauce comes off when you take of the cheese, dude. second you can't complain about something not being cooked all the way or pepperoni placement when you're the one putting it in the oven, doofus.
Opens up with I put it in the oven for the shortest amount of time. Then complains about it not being cooked all they way. Gave me a good laugh after the bong hits.
Come on Jack. Pepperoni placement is a big issue with you? Before you bake it, move the pepperoni slices around. In some cases the pepperoni may shift during the shipping process. Even the vacuum sealed pies will allow you to easily moves the toppings for desired distribution. I will admit, I haven't had a frozen pizza in years, tens of years. I go to the local Italian pizza shops/restaurants or pizza chains for pizza.
johnr17033 how come tombstone is placed fine? why can't the others be distributed properly. It's not my job to make the pizza. I could see if it can't be done but if it can, then it should. plus if you move the pepperonis around then they aren't apart of the pizza slice. the cook disconnected. They just are setting on top and don't stay put while eating. Realize that this a a review show. So It's my job to see what's being done right and wrong. If they see my video they might be encouraged to make manufacturing changes. That's why I criticize.
Cooking With Jack Show when you pay $4 for a pizza do you really expect it to be exactly what you wanted? this review was really unrealistic and biased
Cooking With Jack Show That's really like complaining that the marshmallows in cereal aren't evenly distributed. Vacuum sealing would prevent it from moving around, but still. You can take simple measure to move the pepperoni around to your liking.
johnr17033 the point is, you should not have to do that. It's a pre-made pizza and it should be made CORRECTLY. That means proper cheese to sauce ratio and proper topping placement. It's about caring about your customers's experience with your product. Additionally, if someone is buying Frozen Pizza, it's usually because they do not have the time to actually eat a real pizza at a restaurant. They can't be sitting there re-arranging the Pepperoni's and THEY SHOULD NOT HAVE TO. Frankly, I think your comment is poor, in all but that Frozen pizza is inferior and that you should just get it at local chains.
Not a one of the pizza's was cooked all the way through. Probably why you had undercooked dough on all of them and none of them had decent color on them.
A) i've been eating tombstones since '78, had my first at Chick's Romeo Tavern. B) pepperoni isn't GLUED to the tops of the pizza, it can move around after it's made, if it's not "vacuum sealed", i always relocate pepperoni before cooking. C) for the last 5 years i've used a professional pizza oven, it has heating elements within 1-2 inches of both the top and bottom surfaces, it cooks much better. D) Aldi's has about the best frozen pizzas for $1.99, same size as your test pizzas, try their 4 meat pizza, it'll knock your socks off!
Evolve Yourself I've had a slice or two of the Sam's Club, was $1.88 with a drink, I think whole, freshly cooked pizzas are like $9. Sams is selling DiGiorno's three 3 meat rising crust pizzas for like $13, another deal, those are over 30oz each!
Evolve Yourself Momma Cozzi has been a "staple" in my freezer for over a decade, from the cheap little pizza in a box, to the 20+ ounce 12 inchers, and the occasional rising crust monster. for the last year, I work across the street from Aldi's in Batavia IL, I see their trucks on the highway and local roads many times daily.
Evolve Yourself I've been shopping at Aldi's since '85, still put the same quarter in the shopping cart! (concept, the quarter changes now and then) but other grocery chains pay people to retrieve shopping carts, my neighbor, a 65 year old woman used to get carts for our local Jewel, until her health failed.
BY POPULAR DEMAND, PART 2 OF THIS VIDEO IS COMING, INCLUDING JACK'S PIZZA, DIGIORNO'S PIZZA, TOTINO'S PARTY PIZZA AND CALIFORNIA PIZZA KITCHEN. GET READY FOR THE SEQUEL!!!!
great video, although i cant really blame the pizza for being doughy if you cooked it. also have you ever tried a ceramic pizza stone, i have one at my uni house and its the bomb
FYI, I have found that for any frozen pizza, thawing them out 20-30 mins prior to cooking gives you a more uniform cook. I also cook pizza on a pan for first 1/2 of the cook, then slide directly onto the oven rack until done.
I've tried all these brands, and I've found that I have to cook them longer (real dark) in order to get the dough cooked all the way. I even use the broiler to darken it, cheese tastes better "personally".
What I do is buy one of those ready-made pizza crusts and then I get the fresh ingredients and put them on myself still nearly as convenient as frozen but tastes way better
I don't know if you have these brands where you live (I'm in upstate NY) but the only kind I ever get are Central Market or Newman's Own. More expensive and thin crust so, not a lot of bang for your buck but the flavors are great.
I like Freschetta and Tombstone too. A pizza stone makes a huge difference with home cooked pizza. Unglazed travertine tiles at the home improvement stores work well too and cost just a few dollars.
Tombstone is generally my go to, mainly from the 90's Western commercials that they did with the guy about to be hanged and asked, 'What do you want on your tombstone!?!' and he'd list off toppings.
Great review as always! Freshetta & Red Baron are both made by Schwan's. The self rising pizza they sell to your home is exactly the same as the Freshetta but twice as expensive. I agree it's a good frozen pizza.
Costco has their Kirkland brand pizza that's pretty good. Also try Lotza Mozza and home run inn pizza. And if you like Chicago style (my favorite type) Gino's East (a Chicago pizza restaurant staple) does a deep dish pizza that's available here in Milwaukee.
Culinary Circle brand from Farm Fresh (if you have one). They have a surprisingly good ultra thin crust and rising crust (but it's really heavy), they also have a flatbread version that is really good. Freschetta used to have a "Sauce stuffed" crust that was amazing (for frozen pizza), but none of my local stores sell it anymore.
Here is the best way to Thank God It's Friday! Time for a "Playing With Your Food" episode. th-cam.com/video/1GWzqrSPv5s/w-d-xo.html Freschetta Tombstone Pizza
I personally love Red Baron, the sauce got way better recently and has a bit more spiciness to it. I think maybe if you cooked the pizza a little longer and got it a bit more browned you may have liked it better. But that's just my opinion.
Frozen pizza lovers, get yourself a nice Lodge Cast Iron pan you can get a ball of dough from a pizza joint and make your own personal pizza, nothing beats it!
most of the crusts on those pizzas taste like cardboard they always have an aftertaste too the fresheta pizza prolly tops them all in taste though we find it best to just get a regular cheese pizza though and top it the way we want
Could you please review the WAL*MART FIRE ROASTED CRUST Pepperoni Pizza in the Deli. I have found that it is truly the best store bought frozen Pizza currently out there that, I have come across for me and my family.
I was a huge Freschetta fan and I decided to try something new and got Digiorno's.. they're both really good, but I think from Freschetta all the time I like the Digiorno's better.
As far as frozen pizza goes, I have yet to taste one thats taste like delivery Digiorno (sp?) included. Also if the pizza doesn't have enough cheese, I have no problem adding some half way through the cooking process. And pepperonis tend to shift in transit, it is not that big of a deal to redistribute them.
I live near Old Forge PA, which is the pizza capitol of the world, so I always take extremely high quality pizza for granted. Most shops out here give load the heck up on the sauce. If you ask for extra there will be so much the freaking cheese falls off. My area sucks, but damn we have good pizza.
I get the Tombstone cheese-n-sausage or their double cheese, then I 'add' a big hand full of shredded mozzarella cheese and chunks of Jimmy Dean's Italian Sausage --- Bake it for 12 to 14 minutes at 400. (All this is if I'm lazy and don't want to make one completely from scratch.)
Tombstone pizza has an interesting sauce...all around it's definitely a greasier pizza than some of the other ones. It takes longer to cook then the others you have to cook it on a lower heat.
Hey jack.......I remember the first frozen pizza coming out in 1953 and made in Somerville Ma. The box was better tasting than the pizza...Ha....Ha.....Its time to try your recommendations...great video....Thanx
We never buy frozen pizza at the store, so I don't really care about these results. But I love the honest, unpretentious presentation by Jack. Got me a new favorite TH-camr!
I get the Red Baron pizza lot. Pizza in Washington is usually pretty good. I usually buy The Brick Oven crust pizza from Red Baron pizza because it's really good.
I had a Freschetta pizza for the first time about a month ago, I was honestly surprised how well it was! Pepperoni was great and plenty of sauce and the cheese was just right. And that crust was soooo good.
Out of the choices you had, I agree Freschetta would be the best. As for the pepperoni being all on one side, that happens during transit. I usually redistribute the pepperoni so it is evenly placed around the pizza.
Jack, I use to work in the food industry. Uniformity has always been a problem when things are done with machines. I myself always adjust to make it uniform and I also use a pizza oven. I know when I was young and I'd go to the bar with my dad. He'd buy a Tombstone pizza and it was great. This was back in the 70's though. I like the pizza oven so much that when I got out of the military in 82 I bought one used and it still working as of today. 33 years later.
Red Baron is the same company as freschetta. Tombstone is the same as California pizza kitchen and digiorno. And the best part is schwans which makes Red Baron/ freschetta is the same company that makes the little Mexican pizza found in schools.
i hate that when they use sweet sauce on pizza or spaghetti it makes me wanna vomit and for pepperoni placement i like taking them off and cut them in half so the pizza coverd
I like frozen pizzas, personally. I think they are a good snack to have in the freezer for when you want something but feel kind of lazy (or are in a game marathon). I am surprised the Red Baron got such a low score. Was it just the crust that dropped the score that low? I've never had the big pizza like you showed, but I buy the Red Baron French Bread Pizzas and think they are pretty good. It's a pizza on french bread. If the only reason you gave Red Baron a 2 was because of the crust, maybe try their French Bread pizzas in the re-visit. Another recommendation is Digiorno. That's a really big name in the frozen pizza world. Also, maybe try the individual pizzas. Something like a Begal Bite or the Red Baron mini pizzas. Could be interesting when you do a re-visit. I eat frozen pizza often (good gaming snack, like I said), so I wasn't too surprised that there was a lot of sauce. What is amusing is to go back and check out Jack's take out pizza review. I think you did Pizza Hut and Costco and something else. The biggest complaint that I remember was the lack of sauce and cheese, and these frozen pizzas (except one) all got praised for the amount of cheese and sauce. Great episode, I enjoyed it a lot! :)
Part 2 should be good. I have been looking at Jack's Pizza, but don't know about it. Plus, it is more expensive than Tombstone, so I go with with I know. So i'm interested in seeing what the pizza looks like and hear a review And I was just providing examples because you had mentioned discussing it in the comments. :)
Can you do a video on making your own pizza from grocery store crust, sauce, cheese, and other toppings and comparing that to frozen pizzas? It seems to me it actually cost way more than buying frozen pizzas, why is that? A large pizza crust at Krogers cost $3.99 that their cost as much as one frozen pizza
The best part of these store bought pizzas is the fact you can add extra toppings from your leftover meals throughout the week without hurting your wallet.
Next time cook them all the way through, they were all undercooked and It is a home finished cooked product so spread out the pepperoni yourself. It's an easy fix! Your just finding something to whine about. Can't wait for the sequel though. Nice video Jack!!
I really like this kind of video and hope you do more. Personally, for frozen pizzas I am crazy about 2 different kinds... California Pizza Kitchen is usually really good, especially their BBQ chicken, and also Dr. Oetkers. Weird name, but the pizza is really great. They have a 'quattro fomaggi' (I think that's how they spell it) that has a bunch of cheese, and kinds you don't usually find on frozen pizzas (fontina, etc). They also have a pizza funghi which has a lot of mushrooms and I'm a huge fan of that. I also go for a lot of spinach and feta type pizzas if I can find them. I've recently started experimenting with making my own pizzas though and wow, it's not that hard to make your own amazing pizzas if you've got the time!
This episode made me really hungry lol! But as a younger guy u gotta throw in my opinion a Jacks Natural rising crust "the works" best store pizza ever

Youre the best human being that has ever lived
It wouldn't have helped much, but there was also some cheese stuck underneath the pepperoni slices on the Kroger pizza. :)
This episode made me really hungry lol! But as a younger guy u gotta throw in my opinion a Jacks Natural rising crust "the works" best store pizza ever
Ricjamez101 can't wait to try Jack's
The new Kroger ones aren't too bad... they call it Private Selection now it's more of a premium product line.
i love red barons cheese but walmarts brand of pizzas are good they come in weird flavors and are really good
You can pull off the peperoni and distribute it evenly before cooking.
