    Honestly I am glad I found your channel and this video. I have a 2004 Mustang GT that i have been entertaining the idea of messing with my rear diff and throwing new gears in it. I have friends who swear by 4.10 and others that say 3.73 and whatnot. I have the stock 3.27 gears, and like you said the boosted 'stangs want the 3.27....look up the specs the SALEEN came with 3.27 factory, so as the old southerners will say "she has good bones!" I am going to keep my current gears and maybe look into getting a different torque converter and having a new dyno tune done once I figure out what else I want to do with my car. Thanks again, your video was way more informative and made more sense than a lot of the other videos here on YT.

    Mike, in my 03 Mach 1 I switched over to a Eaton posi carrier w/moser 31 spline axles and a spec stage 2 clutch w/aluminum flywheel and aluminum driveshaft it really made a difference getting my 1/4 mile times into the high 12’s and 60’ under 2.0 seconds running the nitro 555R’s if I dump the clutch under 4500 rpm the tires grab enough to actually bog off the line. If I was running skinnies up front I would be able to get air under my front left tire.

    I got a 99 cobra but I have plans on forced induction later down the line and try to get 500hp with forced induction and beefing up the engine a bit. My issue rn is I want some gears that I will enjoy while it’s N/a but will also be fine with when I’m making 500hp. Was really considering 4.10 before but then that may be too much at that hp. 3.73 doesn’t seem like much of a noticeable difference when n/a. I may just have to suck it up and do 4.10 now and change them again when I add force induction. That’s for the video really good information!

    The 99 vert got 4.10s first thing and it made it feel way faster, its 2500-3000 at highway speeds so not terrible but first gear is worthless so short and spins our 220 compound 285s with ease, may go 3.73 next winter since my buddy can do them which is a blessing as it’s usually around $600-900 here

      You need a better tire not a different gear. I was doing first gear pulls with 4.10 geared 550 rwhp 07 gt500 (bolt on)...I also had Mackey Thompson et street r tires first 305/45/17 then I dropped to 15s on the rear and got even better traction. It's all about the tire. I'm at 740 wheel now I can hit it in first and feel some power but it can't fully plant that much in 1st with 4.10s. 2nd gear hooks for the most part and I have unknown lowering springs and worn out factory dampers.

    • @MikesGarageRoute66
      @MikesGarageRoute66  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@hotrodlincoln7186 I wouldn't change gears until you reach the final state of the car. So if it is going to be supercharged, leave the stock gears and see how you like it and adjust from there. Gears like other components are based on how you like it. Just like converter stalls, some people swear by a 4k stall, I like 3k for my setup. The most important thing of building a car is whatever you do make sure all the parts compliment each other. They must all work together in the same power band and the same purpose for a car. A cruiser, autocross, and drag cars are going to be setup completely different. When I built my car I knew exactly what I wanted the car to be and everything was picked out with the goal in mind. I hope that helps.

    If I ever change anything gear wise it would definitely be going down from the current 3.55's. At my power level it rips through first gear so quick that when getting on it hard in 1st I really have to pay attention to not bounce it off the rev limiter. The 4.10's where great in my NA 94 Cobra.

BMR spherical rod bearings on all the suspension, upper lower control, arms, extreme antiroll bar, viking, double adjustable rear shocks, strange double adjustable front shocks. The car is lowered an inch and a half all the way around. Aluminum one piece driveshaft, 20 inch Michelin pilot super sport tires. NA engine dynode at 417 rear wheel HP and 400 TQ. Do you prefer a high gear "3.31" or a low gear "3.73" for drifting? I bought the car brand new with a 3.73 it now has a 3.31 and I do not like it. Going to be changing the gears this spring as the car is put away for the winter gear ratios. A lot of people that I've talked to said I should run a 410 and I am not concerned at all about gas mileage. Forgot to mention the car also has a Macleod RST clutch and has completely built Mosher rear end. I also had the engine oil pump changed to the cobra jet oil pump and crank gear changed. While I was in there, I also decided to do the inverted bridge change tensioner. I am running a safe 93 tune and would like to be safe on the engine as I might drift the car once a year. Great question. To answer that I need a little more information. Is you're Coyote going to be NA or Boosted and what transmission are you using? Also what's the use for the car, is it from the street or track only?

      @@MikesGarageRoute66 just n/a for now, Gen 2 6r80 it’s just gonna be a nice street cruiser. Also was wondering if you know what kind of driveshaft would work on it? Gonna be using the 6r80 auto transmission and 8:8 99-04 gt rear end. Appreciate it 🙏🏽

      Great video with lots of good info.! Thanks for creating and posting! 🙌
      Currently running stock 3.31s in my ‘14 GT putting down 670 hp at 7200 rpm. It’s a dog below 5k. Would you recommend 3.55s or 3.73s. Mostly a street car / daily driver / project car. It doesn’t see the track and I rarely drive at WOT. Thanks in advance!

    any recommendations for the 98 gt 4r70w auto tranny cars pretty much gutted for track use but i daily it to work and just wanna put some pep in the car to keep with the faster cars on straights and in traffic/highways i was considering the 3.73 gears but now i dont know what to do😢

      3.73 is a great overall. 4.10 will help even more but it’s not the best if you spend considerable time on the highway cruising.

    3.73 gear is not good for the highway?

    • @MikesGarageRoute66
      @MikesGarageRoute66  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      With an auto, and driving long distances, not really. Auto and manual have different overdrive gears. With a 4r70w the overdrive gear is .70. With a 26 inch tire and a 3.73 you will be at 2700 rpm at 80mph. Not bad but not the best if you want decent gas mileage or don’t want your engine spinning that high. For example with a roots blower that is overspun like mine is, you want to keep the rpms low for long highway drive. otherwise your iats get to high.

    I put 4.10s in my 98 cobra with a torsen diff.1-4 are now too low, and the car is much slower top speed wise,revs too high on the freeway,but it does JUMP off the line.much better was switching the rear tires to Yokohama.

      I hear ya. I’m pretty happy with 3.25 with an auto. At 450 to the wheels it gives me the best of both worlds. I should be at 500hp next year. Thanks for watching!
