- The Fantasticar multitool is a great value (if you can get over the weird colors). I would likely recommend it! Will probably be in my top 5 budget multitools for a long time.

This multitool, and countless others like it (in the budget range), are why I had a real problem with Leatherman's two "new" tools.
They're still treating features like locking tools, and replaceable wire cutters, as a perk or premium.
Those are now basic features, found in the cheapest of budget tools.
They go backwards with their tools, and once again ignore what their fans have been asking for, go backwards with their "new" tools, and still act like having those two basic features..on these two already backwards tools, are a premium.
I understand that that's an unpopular opinion, but I can't help it.

100% agree.. i totally agree with you. They seem to be moving backwards. I'm here because i was looking for something a bit bigger than my Leatherman squirt PS4 because i refused to spend more on a bigger leatherman tool.
@@julsdrummer it's like they think they can rely on their name alone, don't have to compete anymore.

So older video, but i saw it go on sale for 15$ saw your video going over the atec and suipro, bought two at that price. I took a boubon stave cut some strips off of it then jig sawed them into the plastics shape. It is now one of my favorite carries.
That Is known from the original big manufacturer as the GHK8.
I own its bigger brother the GHK6, which ditches the clip but adds very useful file and Wood saw with External accesible feature, for just 35 bucks, id say Is completely worth It.

I personally EDC a surge with a bunch of jig saw blades in the pouch on my belt, with also the 24 bit kit and ratchet driver in the RAE belt clip. however that's for work, if I'm just going out I'll probably just have the K4. I don't know how people fit a surge in a regular jeans pocket
But I do agree I got this multi tool as my first one mainly bec I was broke and just wanted to see if I’d actually use the tools to before even getting something pricier and two years in and it’s still going strong with weekly use

I took mine in half and use it as my EDC scissors+awl (I actually like the color lol)
Put those mint scales in some hot Rit dye (black) and you can solve the color problem.
Vinyl & Carpet dye spray paint works too. 👍

Perfect way to get my wife into multitools without her even noticing

I got one, and generally speaking I agree with all your points. Quality for the money is great for the most part. However, mine has the same exact issue with the lock on the phillips/awl... the locking surface is pretty rough, and I can force both tools to close if I try hard enough. All other locks seem secure... but I wouldn't necessarily trust any of them the way I would trust a Leatherman product.

Same issue with awl and Phillips not locking in place well. It’s no Leatherman but for the price…. Probably nothing better now. Colors are not ideal but… had to check it out for $20.
Do you think those scissors could be taken off that tool, and put on the wavs plus. By replacing the file or the serrated blade?
technically I think its possible...but I'd rather just mod a 91mm Vic scissor which is far better.
I’m actually chewing on getting this. Multitools are getting cheaper and better at the same time, I will never ditch Leatherman for a cheaper tool but I like collecting them and this looks actually pleasant. I got an ozark trail multi force on sale for 15 dollars and it’s so much better than I ever could have expected
Totally agree, I'm concerned that Leatherman is a bit too arrogant about their products and pricing.

@@maxlvledc well, I had found mine in a case that was labeled 15$. There was only one left, as some other dude walked away with four of them. I brought it up front when I was done shopping and it rang up as the normal 40, I told the employee of the box that had set it’s price to 15, and they corrected the price.
As for why they were marked down so much? I really can’t say, maybe they weren’t selling in my Walmart
I think there's a plateau of sorts, and now more brands and manufacturers are catching up to expected quality.
The prices sometimes fluctuate I guess. The Fantasticar lime green was at 15 on amazon for a while (the other colors weren't). I ordered it and was thinking of reviewing it but your review covers everything pretty much so instead I made a short video of the multi tool with fancy lights and romantic piano music, LOL. @@maxlvledc

Where do you find the wire cutter replacements? I’m looking at getting the “splitman” version (with the saw). It sounds like the wire cutters aren’t the best, so I’m assuming they’ll need to be eventually replaced.
That's not what makes them just "ok" they are not so sharp so cutting soft wire will not be as clean.
@@maxlvledc Gotcha. I would be using it for hard wire, around 14 gauge, so it might be fine. For future reference, which retailer carries the Roxon replacements you mentioned?

@@maxlvledc FYI there’s now a Siupro branded version of this tool on Amazon (with darker scales of the same color). Also, I never was able to find those Roxon wire cutters. Do you think it would be possible to file-down leatherman cutters, to allow them to fit? That would also be an upgrade, since I understand the original cutters aren’t very good.

I own a signal. "I LOVE IT" seriously the weight, the features even if the fire starter is eh having a whistle is being used more, the knife is great even if it's half serrated. It's totally worth it! 👌

Which Leatherman is right for you depends on how you will use it. Are you in the trades and will be using it every day? Are you in the military? Are you a paramedic? General use? Light duty? Budget friendly? The Wave is the best general use Leatherman. Start there with your research. Good luck.
Hmm, for edc...P2 (get on eBay for $70), skeletool. Both are good

Whatever is best on rust and for me that's still wd40
Food grade mineral oil is a good option if you're chemical-phobic or might use the tool for any food prep purposes. Mineral oil is used as the base for many light penetrating oils such as WD40 and blast...(whatever the blast one is called).
Do you know a deep pocket clip for this?
No, but Even if there was..you can't get it back together after disassembly, I tried.

My thoughts as well. Pinkish box. Little heart over the letter i. The colour of the tool reminds me of the colour my wife chose for our wedding.

I ordered this when you first posted it and it’s amazing. I got the feeling that the colors are targeted towards a female user, but every female I have showed it to did not express any different reaction from any Leatherman I’ve ever shown to. So, yeah.

I disagree with you about having only one blade. I like having a both a straight edge blade and a serrated edge blade on my Charge +. There things you can do with serrated edge that you can't with straight edge and vise versa. Also I like using the serrated edge on normal stuff and keeping the straight edge nice and sharp for when I need that. I am sure I am not the only one that does that.
sure, and some people WILL decide to have both blades..but the benefit of not having the other side is weight and thickness. The Skeletool is a great example of how compact tools have their own advantages.

Imo serrated blade on multitool isn't useless, it's the "beater blade" for me. I use the serrated one on my wave to cut stuff that would probably damage the fine edge and take forever to resharpen. Things like rough plastic, rubber etc. Also you don't gotta worry about gunk on the fine edge either. I use the fine edge on stuff I'd rather have clean cuts on. The Awl is probably my least used tool, in anything, idk what people do with it. I only ever use them like a pick.
The colors seems like they tried to market this tool to women, which is something you don't see often, and imo not a bad idea. They should offer more colors though.
Who actually cares about the box? It's not like you're keeping it to safely store your $20 tool.

But hey a good tool is a good tool...This color is alright.

@@maxlvledc BTW I was looking at the Walmart Multi-force...it goes for $42...and then I saw the Leatherman Wingman for $48..I know it usually go for $70 now even on Leatherman's site..It may never be cheaper than this ..whereas the Multiforce may go cheaper sometime...Which one should I get? Why would you package a multi-tool in a pink box? I mean this a multi-tool made exclusively for women??
frankly I don't see pink as exclusive by any means..but talk about clashing... If you want a decent presentation use neutral (black /grey /white) which can accent or highlight the contents. I was joking because they had to pay extra for a pink package with text on it.
