Thanks this is a very educational how to when the door is stuck skew. I just replaced one of the sheared torsion springs, it was not very difficult after watching your other TH-cam video. I had to reset the door opener as it was a closing a few mm higher than before. Is it a bad idear to change only the one broken spring, if the door had two.
Yep. I took off the bottom bracket this morning because the roller was out. Been working to get it fixed all day. I think this was the video i really needed to watch. The cables on the drums are giving me fits. Thanks. Will let you know if what you taught me helps. I hate springs.
I love your videos. I find them very informative and I have used them to repair my garage door. I have a troubleshooting question. My garage is showing some light at the bottom right side. I tried your technique of securing the winding rod with vise grips, and slowly releasing the drum tension to allow the cable and the door to drop. However, when I tried it, the opposite lower side begins to pull up as well. I do not understand how this happens because my rod is properly secure at the bottom part with vise grips. I truly would welcome any input that would allow me to properly level my door.

So I don’t need winding bars in place while loosening the tension on the cable screws? Just Vice grips? My door is slightly crooked and I used a winding bar to hold it in place while reattaching and winding the cable on the side it came off of. When I tightened the screws up though the door was lowered more than before but it was still visibly crooked. I’m gonna get some vice grips to hopefully get it fully fixed
You can use a winding bar for extra safety. In 15 years of service, I have never had one slip. The exception would be if you are working on a very tall or heavy door.
I feel like I wasted time watch watching. There is so much emphasis on how dangerous this is, yet how safe is it to fix the garage door solely on someone narrating the instructions? I would rather have ACTUALLY watched what he was explaining rather than assuming I am doing it correctly. Please include step-by-step video next time. Thank you!
It seems that maybe you have not seen many videos on the subject! I learned so much more with this video than the other 15 I watched that weren’t clear on how to do it because they videod it but they were in the way. Specifically, the placement of the vice grips that this video showed clearly.

You might want to mention the lock pin on there it's a big deal
