    My problem is, i have to step on the bottom of the garage door and apply maybe 40 lbs to get it to the floor and lock it there. And then when opening it, at about 5 feet up, it has spring tension holding it down. I dont know the history on it, like mismatched parts. But does it sound like the springs are to short? The door is 8' tall x 10' 2" wide. Any ideas?

    Can someone please enlighten me as to why my door keeps losing the cable on one side (the right hand side if you are facing the door from inside the garage) while the garage door is going down? This results in the door drooping on that side and bending tracks and brackets and wheels coming off the track. After getting everything back in shape now (for the 4th time!) I think I may see the issue. When the door is all of the way up, there is no tension on the cable anymore. Both sides lose their tension. But the right hand side is very loose. I know this should be self evident, but alas. Thank you for any advise you may offer.

    As an untrained viewer I would add that the spring coils here can really really hurt you. They hold more than their share of stored energy that is like a mouse trap if you start loosening bolts and you’re the mouse! They are uniquely deceptive in their hidden power. If you don’t own two (2) of these .5” rods of the proper length, proper tools, gloves, helmet, eye protection and some strength - CALL OUT A PRO. They are much cheaper than an ER visit , a painful one // or - at least get hold of the old geezer here for proper parts and another safety brief. Thank you for this video. //ji

    I enjoyed your video excellent job however i had a Question I have a 16-foot- x 7 high heavy duty garage doors made of heavy alum in 1979 the Spring size is a 234 2 x 26 when I get to 17 quarter turns seems really tight, didn't know if I was over tightening it My garage door is an seems like a commercial type of door compared to most doors on homes can you explain the number of lines that your installer counted on the spring I wasn't sure how that works or if it is a gauge when tightening How many quarter turns should i tighten the spring

    I ordered the spring on Amazon for $70 and followed the directions on this very simple video. You saved me a buttload of money! My single car garage door only had one spring on the left side, so it was pretty simple. My son and I had it knocked out in less than an hour. I can see how it could be dangerous, but it's just like anything else in life... Go slow and steady and use your head and all will be well.

      Please be careful, while it can save you money, please know that springs are engineered for TIPPT, not just any spring will work and not all the tools shown explain how properly used. Garage Doors kill people every year, typically from lack of knowledge and incorrect steps as well as incorrect wind. While it's not hard to do and doesn't require master level education.... it can go very bad very quickly. When in doubt always call a certified professional.

    • @loudroarYT
      @loudroarYT หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@danielmcclenahan460 You are absolutely correct about that. I was aware of the dangers going into this project. I took all the precautions that I could, including staying away from the "danger zone" if the spring were to unwind uncontrollably. I did my due diligence, with researching the process, tools needed, and risks to be aware of. Luckily for me, My garage door uses 1 spring. I was able to complete the project in about 30 mins making sure to take my time.

    • @danielmcclenahan460
      @danielmcclenahan460 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @loudroarYT yup that's about right! It's not hard work but there are things we door on Garage Doors before we select a spring. But if you enjoyed the work the Garage Door Industry has kept me busy for about 18 years.

    My cable starts rubbing the track on one side when door is about halfway closed, and then pops over the track by about 3/8” when fully closed. Can I move the drum over, or will this not help? Is the drum what locates the torsion tube so if I move the drum the whole tube will just slide over?

    Thank you for this information. Garage door hardware replacement always frustrates me butvitvis avnecessary evil that must be done. Tis will be my first time to replace the spring. I couldn't count the number of times I've replaced the cables. My garage is sort of my 'mancave', if you will. I was reading last night and sometime around 2a the loudest explosion ever. It did not even register at first. I look at see that the spring on my garage door is now 2 pieces - aparentkyvit decidedit was done doing its job and gave up. The garage door naturally released to the ground, however short of a fall it was. It got my attention fir sure. Next, I was trying to figurexout if I was dead, having been struck in the head by garage parts, looking down upon the scene or if I was still living, having dodged a real porential bullet. Here I am, it seems I survived. Thanks again for the info - wish me luck on this repair.

    The video tells you the dangers; you will need to watch more detail videos on specific repairs. I have 1964, old dense solid core wood garage doors, not the new lighter wood frame, or plastic doors, so weight is heavy (in fact, I just ordered a scale to try weighing the door). If you have a double door, it will be heavy too. I think you can safely replace rollers if needed. But spring replacement, unless you’re handy, is best left to pros. If you try on your own, have your cars out. But, in my experience, the pros in several calls were not professional. These videos shows you what they should be demonstrating before they leave. In one instance, my door was uneven at the down position after a torsion spring replacement ; WTF ? The owner admitted his guy wasn’t good, and with other situations, the tech was fired.

    My cable has quite a bit of tension on it when the door is in the down position. I am unable to turn the cable drum, by hand, enough to apply the same tension on the side I'm adjusting compared to the other side. I have tried several methods to apply additional tension, but nothing seems to work perfectly -- the tension is always different and the door seems to be just a little off. I can tell that the tension is different because when the cable is strummed, it vibrates and creates a pitch that i can hear. The pitch on both sides should be the same if the tensions are the same. But one pitch is always a lower tone.
