So sorry! Silly me forgot the links to the meal planning it. They are now in the description of the video. BTW I love all the ideas coming through. 😊
I love this idea and I'm all in. Maybe call it a journey instead of a challenge, we could call it the frugal foodie journey
❤ it but what about Frugal Foodie Fun or something else that starts with F?
calling it a journey is great idea
Let’s call it a QUEST! Sounds exciting! 👍🫶🏼
@@nessday1821 I love a good quest!
I love it for you guys, but it's still a challenge for me!
“Use It Up October” ❤
Use it or lose it.
Optimistic October. Excellent idea
You could call it..Clean out October.. that takes care of freezer, fridge and pantry..
You have a great channel.. thanks for being here.. Ohio USA
Pantry Spring-clean, ready for the new season. (West Coast NZ)
This is perfect timing for me ,
After 34 years we are empty nesters .
I was sharing the cooking load with my daughter and son in law
up until July this year ,
Buy since downsized our household My freezer is full
The pantry less so ,
but need to reset for our new circumstances
Can’t wait to get started
And sour cream sounds fabulous
My local Woolworths supermarket had a section in the refrigerated aisle dedicated to “end of life” produce. It had everything near its use by date in one section. I used to head there first and buy around those products. They used to also have a section in the fruit and vegetable section with all the wonky veg. Both of these sections have unfortunately disappeared.
What a shame! I bet it just heads to the big bins out the back.
@@FarmersWifeHomestead Yes, sadly, straight to the composters in the back. Such a waste.
@@FarmersWifeHomestead More then likely. I really don’t mind a wonky carrot, or a speckled Apple….
Our woollies had the odd (wonky) veggies bin, it might still. I only go there to get stuff I can't get from Aldi or Coles. Aldi is for everyone now, nit just frugal shoppers!
Sounds good I'm in. I'm a single mom of 2 adult children, now semi retired from Oregon USA. My freezers are full to the brim and I need to inventory them and the pantry. I love to grocery shop, like cooking but it is difficult finding what to make when only there is only one person. So I mostly end up snacking and not eating well. I hope this challenge/journey/quest/cleanout gets me back to menu planning, and meal prep to lower my budget. Looking forward to October! Amy
Good morning Stacey, from a dull sky Northern Ireland.
Listening to you I was wondering about shop what you’ve got October.
Absolutely love this channel and your recipes are so easy to follow. Thank you so much.
Enjoy being with your grandson for his second birthday, it’s such a beautiful age. I have just celebrated my 70th. ❤
Happy belated 70th 😊
Great idea Stacey, there were plenty of times when I’ve had to shop from my home pantry and freezer when my children were little and I’m sure there will be families who are struggling right now who would appreciate some ideas. 👍🌏
Each week put 7 "inspirational items" on your kitchen counter from your pantry. Then meal plan with those items in mind. Note if it a freezer item then just write it on a paper and put it on the counter. Problem with our freezers and pantry is out of sight out of mind. When you see the items on your counter you will use the items. It's a great sense of accomplishment. Repeat process week after week.
I love this idea. You are exactly right about "out of sight out of mind." I'm going to give this a try. Thanks. Diane
Great idea!!
I've been doing just that for the past month. Reorganized the pantry in August and set out all the out of date and dented cans front and center on the counter so they were in my face. Make a game of putting out good meals.
Michelle, I just had a very nice supper made with a can of green beans (expire date 8/22), frozen grilled potatoes, broccoli and carrots mixture that has been in the freezer for six months, and a small steak that had also been in the freezer several months. Good grief! It was all so good! Later tonight, I will be setting out another old can of something and check the freezer for more old items to cook tomorrow. What an adventure. Thank you again. Diane
@@bettyir4302 I like your plan! Diane
Great idea, I'm calling it my October Quest ❤
Hi Stace, after being hoha over my stuffed-to-the-brim-but-can't-find-anything pantry I did a huge overhaul. I'm 95% finished and I'm really stoked as this has motivated to cook and bake more. Most stuff are in glass containers (big ups to Kmart) and so it's easier to find, move around and also see how much I have or don't have. This is another way for me to cut down on my $$$ for shopping.
The " use it or loose it kitchen competition".
Alternative words for challenge - intention, aim, idea, intent, objective, object, goal, target, hope, aspiration
I hope these suggestions are of some use Stacy.
Thank you 😊
I’m keen to see how you meal plan for a month and stick to a budget in that way. We waste so much money of food yet have full freezers/cupboards!
Hi Stacy
Thankyou for all you share.I have downsized my home & this has given me the opportunity to work out what I can use up of the extras & whether there are alternatives. I'm in for the challenge. I am learning so much from you at the age of 75. Buying one type of sugar to store & then either change some to castor or brown is a game changer for me. My other plus is my new insta-pot which will have me using up lots of "bits" from my freezer.
I'm thinking that the definition of challenge exactly describes what you are doing: challenge is something new and difficult which requires great effort and determination. The problem is (broadly)cost and optimal use of food and the challenge is what can be done to alleviate that. I like the description of challenge for this October task.
seeing your freezer reminds me of mine!!! I have so many similar things that desperately need using up. So this is going to be an interesting October quest/journey/clean out. It's what I've been thinking I need to do for ages
I live in Cornwall England, love watching your vlogs , I am in for October , exciting
Fantastic idea… I will enjoy watching these videos. Thanks! ❤️
I love the comment “ Use it up October!” Great idea. I’m in. Our budget is huge. So I look forward to squirreling the extra money away for Christmas.
I absolutely need to get a handle in my food spending. I live alone with limited freezer space, I end up reaching for convenience options way more than I should instead of planning and cooking.
I'm keen to give this a go this month especially with school holidays. Hopefully clearing the freezer out. Funny that I'm watching this on 27.9 and a few days ago went through freezer to start planning meals around what was in there
I have a years worth of meal planning I just change the dates, and sometime change up the meals from time to time, depending on what we're enjoying at the moment. I love doing it this way takes the stress out of planning.
It sounds very similar to my meal planning.
Your an inspiration Stacey.i used to home cook and bake when family were young but empty nest syndrome I lose interest. You gave me the kick start I needed and really enjoying meal planning and following what you cook . Half the Problem these days is ideas of what to have but I copy your now 😂 Thank you x
How about “Living out of the pantry October.”
We'd already been eating down the freezer but somehow it keeps filling up. At the end of last month, the pantry got reorganized and everything that was outdated and dented was set front and center on the counter. Stop all the shoving things to the back. I didn't touch anything but what set out from the pantry, seasonings, flour and whatever was in the fridge but not the freezer as that would have been distracting. Tomorrow will be the official-official finish of the pantry clean up. Then it is back to concentrating on the freezer.
Good luck everyone.
Yes Stacy I will eat out of freezer and pantry for October too . Good idea to clean and use up food .Look forward to your ideas . Will only spend $50 week too .😊
October adventure…you don’t know what you will get until you start. Love this idea for extra money for Christmas.
Hi Stacey, sounds great! I am going to challenge myself to use up home canned food and to organise my menu & grocery plans. Thanks for the inspiration. Looking forward to this challenge and new recipes. Yes to a sour cream video! 🌸
'Shop at Home October' 😊 often do this to clean out the bits and pieces, usually from the freezer.
I like the journey others have suggested, October Adventure or October conquest, so many more words than challenge I agree with you.
Hi Stacey, I'm definitely going to take part in your quest. I'm going to call mine Use It Up October.
I live on my own but use to do this sort of organisation when growing my family. I will pass this on to my daughter who has 4 children and low income so thanks for this, Stacey. It’s a good reminder for me to be organised as an older lady who has got a bit lazy hahaha. Anyway I have a chest freezer and I don’t go rummaging in my freezer as it’s sometimes too difficult to get to the bottom of it so I am more motivated to go into my Pandora’s box of a freezer :)
That's a great idea, I am glad you think it will help you and your daughter out :)
Yes I'll be joining in the low spend October! 3 freezers and a pantry store room that was a 3rd bedroom. I'll be updating my inventory lists in preparation.
Whangamata, NZ
Use it October ... I'm glad I'm not the only one not yet planted anything... weeds have been making the most of it... found a whole heap of meat in the chest freezer that I have transferred to an upright freezer now... making life so much easier doing that...
Oh, how I wish I had an upright freezer. My chest freezer is completely full and it's a major operation to find anything in there. Diane
@jimmiepatrum best thing I have done for myself... couldn't afford new... so got new to me...
Hahahaha I feel called out when you mentioned 10 year old condiments. We just had a good look through our top cupboards the other day and found stuff thats even older than that. Definitely need to be using it all up!
Love to learn how to make sour cream , my freezer is totally full, also need to check pantry and use anything with 23 on it and mark all my other tins and thing with 2024 before we get into another year
Yes cooking from scratch is the best way for low income, my yearly budget is 3500 for for food. So I find cooking from scratch is the best way most of the time. And yes I do run short sometimes. I find eating real serving sizes helps a lot
And I think that cooking from scratch helps keep the menu fun and enjoyable when trying to spend less ♥️
Hi Stacey I started cooking from my freezer and pantry a few weeks ago as I realised some of the food in there had been there a long time. It’s looking emptier now but I still have some way to go.
love that you have pumpkin puree in your freezer. I was given a huge pumpkin from a neighbour last week. Made pumpkin soup and roast pumpkin. Cooked and pureed the rest. Made pumpkin gnocchi for the first time which was a winner with hubby and the kids. Was going to make pumpkin pie. (We live in Aust but one of my sons loves American Pumpkin pie.) But used the tinned pumpkin by mistake (only had it out to get the qty needed from the tin label) I have frozen the rest of the pumpkin puree to make another pie and also a couple more pumpkin gnocchi meals
I am all in. I already meal planned this week, first time in a while, so you read my mind. Freezer is full, and I only have carrots and potatoes left to can. Much appreciated!!😊
Looking forward to watching the "challenge "
You can call it Quest. I for sure will join you in Octobar month. Saving money b4 Xmass is always crucial. Also in this video was great too. I was pleased to spot Vegeta in your pantry. That is the best seasoning ever!.Thank you. Cheers
Question What is Vegeta? Not familiar with that lol . I'm from Missouri USA thanks in advance
@@gaylemorris4992 Hi. I did reply to you. Do not see it here. Vegeta is Croatian seasoning of herbs and spices which is sold worldwide and its just amzaing to basicaly use in anything, soups, stews, season the meat etc. You can get it in your country among others in Wall Mart. Cheers
@dubravkabelogrlicdubravka thanks I'm sorry I repeated myself I will check it out
I'm so in 🙌 iv been off TH-cam for a while so excited to catch up on all your videos 😁😁
Welcome back!
Love these ideas, looking forward to it
Instead of a challenge, a freezer/fridge/shelf food Spring clean lol. I'm like you, full freezers and I really need to cook up and clear out and really I will probably have enough to keep me going through October. Take care =-)
Always good to see your sweet face! Prayers going out to your daughter and the kids. I have always been told that we should view challenges as opportunities to learn and grow - so there's that. Love & HUGS to you my friend, make sure you are taking care of YOU as well!
So true!
Great idea! I'm in! I need to eat the food that has already been purchased, so I can allocate some extra money to savings. 🦋
Want to use up what's in my pantry, freezer etc before Christmas. That way I can start afresh in the new year. Following you will be a great help. Looking forward to this clear out October ( as suggested by another viewer).
I am following your challenge the next month , great idea !!!
I’m all in! I am terrible at shopping from my freezer. I’m just about as successful at meal planning. 😁 thank you, sour cream will be fun to learn to make.
We can call it a contest. Bc if we're successful, we'll have extra money to spend for Christmas gifts, for us of course since we did the hard work lol.
Been shopping the pantry and freezers the last few weeks. Trying to use up older foods. Will continue through Oct. with you.
i am in on this journey .cant wait
Im in - calling it a savefest event - I have my cream beaten and saved as pucks ( your inspiration ) in the freezer - when i make scones i bring a few out and by the time the scones are done they have thawed to the perfect dollop consistency. looking forward to it
That is a fabulous idea :)
Definitely joining the challenge for October
I like the idea of using things up, monthly meal planning is something I've never done before so it will be interesting for sure.
I personally love a challenge. I find it motivating. Sounds like October will be fun.
I'm literally doing this right now too - cleaning out the freezer as I need to have set areas and it's all just a jumble mess in there!
Great video Stacey. Making sour cream would be awesome. Thank you😊
If by any chance you have a little blue cheese, make a blue cheese and walnut frisse salad. You don't need much blue cheese 50 for four people as it's really strong. Make sweet French mustard dressing. Perfect for lunch with one of your freezer rolls each.
Hey Stacey just call it a "project" I like that because it had a start and an end😊 Ginny
Woo hoo love these “challenges “lol, I’m in Stacey 💖
I only have my fridge freezer, but it is full. So yes I will join in.
I am way under that budget. I joined a community garden and mostly cook vegetarian in quantity. I actually am having to stop cooking because i have run out of space to store the food.
I buy very little from the Supermarkets not just because they have jacked up their prices to almost double, but because the quality is often rubbish. I do buy the occasional high quality products from Harris Farm. HF is mostly expensive but is good for things like bulk dried legumes, the fish shop and fruit.
I am not a freezer fan. I cook and pasteurise the jars and keep the food stored in cupboards. I have food to last a couple of months without cooking. I actually give it away if I can.
If you make kefir you just add some of that to cream and leave on bench overnight and then wonderful sour cream. If you go to Mary's Nest of Bumblebee Apothecary both have recipes. Making it kefir or raw milk is easier than pasteurized and homogenized sour cream
I think you should call this challenge/venture, “Have a Crack, You Won’t Look Back”
Good Luck, you’ll be great. ❤
Love to join in thanks Stacey
Yes. "Use it up October" Love it. I'm there. And I'd love to watch you make sour cream! 🙏Teresa xx Much love from 🇦🇺❤
Sounds like fun love to go on this journey with you
I’m in! €28,21 at today’s rate. Not going to be easy. Going to download the inventory sheets, good idea to take stock of what I have even without the ‘challenge’
Bee's knees. You are the beeee's knees !!!
Thanks!
Thanks so much for sending me a super thanks I appreciate it :)
Thanks Stacey, i've been following you for a long time now, and am always interested in your money saving food tips, i would be really keen to see a sour cream making vid, wiil wait to see how well you do in October, i won't say challenge😅. Thanks once again😊
Maybe a Focus for the month instead of challenge. ❤❤❤
Thanks
Thank you my friend X

Hi Stacey!
Hello Stacey. What about calling a challenge an exercise, or an engagement?
Shoptober HomeStac Cooking - SHOP in OCTOBER from HOME with Stacey
I received my grocery order at midday & all up it was supposed to be 251.81 & I forgot to order my tins of cannelloni which is annoying. However, I had an email at 10 pm last night to let me know that the Lamb I had ordered was not in stock & nor were the eggs so I was given my $21.80 back for those two items I REALLY WANTED. So my total bill is actually A$230 which is not cheap for what I got because I will have eaten it all in just under 3 weeks. Most of the order was food but there was a packet of batteries for my torch which was $8 plus $3 for a box of kleenex which is the brand I prefer on my tender nose. So thinking about it I spent at least A$180 on food items because food here is no longer cheap. Tonight I am making up the beef into a casserole & I will add a tin of cannelloni as I have two tins left & I would have used two in the meal otherwise & made it go a wee bit further. I bought mushrooms & onions & had cream left so I hope it is still okay & plan to make the mushroom sauce for the meat. Then divide it up into 3 or 4 meals & then each night steam some frozen veges to go with it. Thankfully, I do still have some minced meat in the freezer from the last shop nearly three weeks ago. If I hadn't run out of yoghurt for my breakfast I wouldn't have shopped until next week. I had nothing in the fridge but a little cheese, carton of cream, no vegetables left & half a pack of brown rice cakes, so I definitely needed to fill my empty fridge.
I am totally shocked that you have to pay so much for butter as the NZ woollies butter is selling for A$3.80 for 250g. I choose to pay a dollar more & buy Australian butter, however my cheese definitely comes from NZ as Hilliers is cheaper than any other brand by at least $3.00 & it was on special so I only paid $9 for the kilo. My yoghurt costs me $8 for 2 litres, Being on a pension I definitely have to watch my 'pennies' & I have a couple of big bills coming before Christmas so money has to be saved to go around. I buy the macro organic tins of cannelloni which are so cheap at $1.20 a tin which is cheaper than the other brands. I still have to try making up the red lentils I purchased last month to make flat breads.
I will be in for sure. Was wondering how I can get the inventory lists you showed
I'm in!!! 😊
I need to clean out my fridge freezer and knuckle down on the food budget. I spend way too much on food
How about a kitchen odyssey. That gives it a sort of epic feel :)
Frugal Foodie Fun ….. Less Waste More Taste …..
School holidays are first week or 2 of October..
I gave 2 daughters in law who could well use this so i have set the ladies in my family a challenge to see how little they spend. How much they can use out of them freezer.
Heres another idea...Christmas presents out of frudge, freezer and pantry only 😂
This is so amazing to read. I will look out for a future comment from you to let me know how everyone goes.
We most definitely are going to be doing a video like you suggested, great minds think alike hehehe
definitely interested in making sour cream Stacey, Thank you 🙂
Adventure, journey,
Hi, Stacey ❣️. Yep, I need this. Christmas is looming... Please could you come up with some frugal Christmas things? ❤
Absolutely 😊
We will be doing that soon.
BOO! (BUDGET OCTOBER OPTIMIZERS) Im in no matter what you call it!
Intentional October sounds good to me.
How about "improvement" instead of challenge... improving on how we use what is our kitchen and being more sufficent :)
Stacey, It would be good if you linked your website - menu planning free download and also the video thats goes with it. CJ from Australia
Yes, sorry I did forget to do that.
It sounds like a challenge to me. A big one. Really. I'm serious. At my age I should be good at this, but in truth, I am not. For the more accomplished participants, may I suggest Conquest?
