@@qwertyasdfg1261Silly me, just assumed you were over here. 🙂 I saw a great looking car. I'm hoping to go down that route myself. Currently have a 986 which I love but I could do with something a bit more focused. I've always loved the aerokit cars.
@@MrB_Better yes, its lovely. I loved yours and learned alot! I would consider myself a newbie to this world and really appreciate you sharing all the great information!
Another GREAT episode! What makes this channel special was highlighted by a point that Frank made when the owner was discussing his front bumper - these cars have stories that you only learn from the owners. All of this centers around the central theme that “it’s your car, your tastes and preferences should be respected. Love, LOVE, learning about the different Porsche models and their idiosyncrasies.
This guy gets it when you have grown up from grand turismo 1 building a car into what you want is more important than a out the box car loving it also love this channel found it off Al's video now one of my top channels good work
What a setting, what a guest and what a car Nathan has. Really enjoyed this as you can see the detailed discussion, passion and love that you both have for these beautiful cars.
So good to listen to the love for the 996, I have the 3.6 with the 3.9 Hartech and its a conversion worth doing. Mine was in need of rebuild with Bore wear and crank wear. made sense in man maths that the extra capacity was only a negligible uplift! This has inspired me to make mine my own with a few mods, mine is seal grey (haha) but I would love the natural brown or savanna interior. I have done the seat backs in body colour aswell as the centre console and it does lift the darker interior. I also like the thought of some BBS wheels plus the H&R roll bars, I have the same suspension setup with bilstein and H&R springs and its so good for a car that is driven regularly on roads rather than tracks. Thanks again for taking the time to make this, 996 isn't a bad 911 despite what the internet will tell you!
996.1 are definitely the best of the 996 chassis. And if you have a 1999 build, you were blessed with cable throttle and LSD option. I have a 99 with these options, OEM aero in Ocean Blue Metallic. Absolutely love it!
I love this TH-cam channel! as it's always really informative and the passion from you and the featured car/driver is infectious. It's so great to see a 996 finally being featured, and what a fine example of fabulously modified 911. Metropole blue has to be the best interior colour and I love to see how Nathan gets his Recaro seats re-trimmed in metropole blue and the blue tartan. Please say that you are you planning a follow up video in the future to show any further mods Nathan makes?
Good to see the fluffing for 996.1s, got mine at the right time and love it. Non aero, cable throttle, mods continuing, subtle yet so 911. I can't get my head around that taco wing on not GT cars though, not a fan.
i have a 996.1 manual, October 97 built ... It is GREAT ... super fast and magnificent handler. They are smaller and very nimble compared to the modern lot. The 3.4 howls with a decent exhaust, and 1320kg is light ... Sublime cars!
Great to see a 996 on the show (And indeed the “Sister” car to my own 2001 Aero kit!). Remarkably similar mods to mine too, almost certainly due to the owner being a similar build to me (So lower console delete, bucket seats etc) For information Hartech recommend only going to 3.7 litres for the 3.4 996.1 engine. While as stated you can (At great expense) fit a 3.6 crank but apparently the valves aren’t large enough to let anything bigger than 3.7 “Breath” properly. I’m of the same opinion as this guest though; if there is a loud “Bang” from the back of my car then I’ll shrug my shoulders and phone up Grant at Hartech to say “It’s time”. I would suggest though that the rebuild price to a 3.7 is probably closer to £20k than it is £14k though. Don’t listen to me though; best to speak to. Interesting too is that I previously owned a 996 Turbo too and prefer my current Carrera for all the reasons stated. The Carrera 2 doesn’t have an excess of power but it has the RIGHT amount of power in that you can use the majority of it the majority of the time. Great video as always!
35:45 ive heard from many the single mass flywheel needs to balanced to the crank otherwise the harmonics weaken the crank and will result in a catastrophic failure.
Totally agree about the interior...much nicer place to be than a 997 or a 993 , simple but works and it wears really well too. That Blue/Black tartan would look fabulous in the seats.
Great video guys really enjoyed the time you both took over the 996.1 Beautiful car I own a 1999 996.1 c2 in the same colour had 3 possible cars to go for when I was looking for a 911 test drove a 997.1 c2 with high mileage a beautiful c4S and the one i bought she was the cheapest but to me it was the stand out drivers car of the 3. This was 8 years ago only after I bought her did I find out I had chosen (according to the internet) the ugly 911 still don’t get that negative vibes for the 996 I think she is stunning and a real event every time I take her out for a blast. PS she is a keeper never ever going to sell her.
Thanks for the love, I agree that it’s taken some time to come to fruition, but the elegance of the aero 996.1 really shines. Equally a nicely set up stock 996.1 is quite a beautiful shape too.
Am I right in saying a low temp thermostat is not going to make the engine run any cooler for instance on a hot day in a traffic jam ? I understand it opens earlier than a normal one but the engine will still heat up to the same temp if conditions prevail , the 3rd radiator on the other hand adds to the ability to cool the coolant and keep the engine cooler (if possible) . It's the fans that kick in when even 3 rads are not enough to dissipate the heat. Can you have these kick in sooner in a traffic jam? The low temp thermostat will allow the engine to run cooler on say a cool day when on the motorway at a steady speed and there is more than enough radiators to "get rid" of the heat. ..correct?
I upgraded my 996.2 to a 4.0L from Jake Raby at Flat Six Innovations, including his X-pipes which sound amazing. That car is making my 997.2 turbo feel a bit unloved. 😅
Great video. Got a 996.2 C2 manual since a month. No PSM or sunroof, only CD-player as option 😆 Fitting Öhlins R/T so will see how it goes. Gen 1 are great but I really like the extra torque in 3.6 and better gearbox and more solid interior in gen 2. Either way, 996 must be sportscar deal of the century!! This car is here stay 🚗
Had my 996 for over ten years and roads trips across Europe including Le Mans in 2023 for the 100th anniversary and I love mine and will never part with it
I've got one of the 'black & white advertisement' Seal Grey ones... 2001 aerookit C2 6-speed. Adore driving the thing and it gets looks everywhere. Honestly, it seems that the only people who don't love the styling of the 996 are boorish Porsche snobs.
996.1 for the win 🏆
Thanks for the love!
Gotta love a 996. It’s great how these cars are slowly getting the love they deserve!
I truly love the one I have a 99
