Coho Self Release--Newport, OR, 7-30-24

Under Oregon fishing regulations, we are required to use barbless hooks when fishing for salmon. Depending on who's on the boat and doing the reeling, our landing rate is about 50% with Coho since they put on a rodeo once on the line. This one untethered itself just before the net was deployed. We are also in the hatchery-harvest only part of our season, which means that the only fish allowed for retention have their adipose fin clipped (and healed), demonstrating they came from a hatchery.
