  • I'M BACK!!!! It's been a hot minute but we're back with more fun videos! We head out of Milwaukee in search of some gigantic coho salmon, and show you the rigs! It's an awesome opportunity for small and big boats alike, with minimal gear. Break out the dodgers and peanut flies and go catch some of the absolute best eating fish out there!

    Should have seen the size of cohos back in the late 60’s, early 70’s. They averaged bigger than what a lot of kings are today.

    Peanut fly might be smashed but once it gets bit in the mouth it gets amino’s on it from the fish and turns not to eat by other fish. Great video

    You need a fish billy! Whack em across the top of the head while they’re still in the net to stun and calm. It’s not worth the tangles or at worst, a treble buried in a hand.

    When trolling, why don't you ensure reeling in the slack before picking up the rods? Just wondering, great fishing, I still have yet to put a king on the board this year, hopefully soon.

      When the rod goes off (board, dipsey diver) there is no slack in it, however often a downrigger bite - if you watch it go off and grab it right away) there will be slack to pick up.

      The leader length on mine is pretty long at 15 feet, however you can certainly shorten the leader for cohos. I'm just lazy and run the same leader as I do for kings (which are more picky with leader length). An 8 to 10 foot leader of 25lb mono would be just fine!

    Why do you have covers on your motors ?? Don't they run hotter with covers ??

    • @MadisonAngling
      @MadisonAngling  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      They are vented covers, haven't had any increase in engine temp since I started using them (I keep a close eye on temp with my Mercury smart craft gages). They keep the cowlings protected from customers who smack baits/rods/gear into the motors

    Nice video man! What’s your speed?

    • @MadisonAngling
      @MadisonAngling  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you! We were running 2.2 to 2.5 mph. Since we had all of our gear in the top 20 feet of water, the GPS speed worked just fine
