Make Noise 0-Coast // First Ambient Approach

  • Almost 5 years after my first Make Noise 0-Coast, I got one again.
    I don't even know why: I am slowly moving back to eurorack, but the 0-Coast is only marginally modular or rackable, so yeah, I got just struck by a lightning of GAS.
    Anyway, this is my little welcome jam.
    I only had three cables, the bare minimum for sequencing, and I decided to expand the sound with the help of the Hologram Microcosm.
    I've heard a lot of experimental, noise, and harsh-sounding demos on TH-cam, so let's see how it will work with something more gentle.
    Bigger, longer, better videos coming soon, stay tuned 🧡

    Beautiful tones and balance with the Microcosm! How are you sequencing the 0-Coast? Sounds quantized?

    Is it difficult to make pleasing ambient sounds with the 0-coast?

    Same here. After 5 years and a lot of different ideas and having sold this one 4 years ago I just got it again a few days ago and we will live happily ever after

      I've sold it again, because I started with a complete modular system.
      But still, this little bastard, it sounds so good, and it looks so cute, I am secretly hoping for someone to sell the trio in a place near me...

    This was magical and the beginning flute sound was amazing. I kept starting this over just so I could hear it again. I always looked away from the o coast because it looks too noisy but this video is going to make me look and see what’s going on. I had the same reaction to MATHS but it makes sense to me now. Thanks.

      Honored! 🧡
      The 0-Coast sounds unbelievably great, and I think most videos go on the noisy route because they are afraid of not getting the most out of it, but sometimes as we know less is more, right?
      Glad you enjoyed it 🙏🏻

    around 2:40 you briefly made bagpipes
    wait so was this one or two 0-coasts + the microcosm? so many sounds all at once

    • @Dexba
      @Dexba  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Just one 0-Coast ☺
      The background sound you hear is just the Microcosm "reminiscing" the previous steps of the 0-Coast, that's exactly why I set it on a very slow and long setting: to give a false feeling of polyphony!

  • @Algoritmarte
    @Algoritmarte ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Nice! Did you try setting 100% wet on the Microcosm? Perhaps you can achieve an even more "calm" atmosphere.

    • @Dexba
      @Dexba  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I tried, yes! But I dialled it a bit back when it was time to record the video because I am kinda wary of strong opinions about "pedals obscuring the sound of the instrument" 😁
      But I will come back with more, as soon as I will get my hands on some extra patch cables!

    • @Algoritmarte
      @Algoritmarte ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Dexba I have similar doubts ... but perhaps at the end the pedals are (or can be) a part of the "whole instrument". I'll gladly listen other pieces with the 0-coast stretched into the ambient. territory

    • @Dexba
      @Dexba  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Algoritmarte I agree completely! Especially because many times (like here) pedals enable sceneries otherwise not possible with the instrument alone, so trying to separate the two things feels unnatural and unnecessary.
      More will come for sure! 🧡

    that was cool. is it being looped? or is the microcosm just adding real time effects?

    • @Dexba
      @Dexba  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thank you! No, it is not: there is the Microcosm hidden behind it, adding real time effects (even though... they're technically microloops, so...) ;)

    It happened the same to me. I had one few years ago and I’m receiving another one this week.
    Great standalone machines.
    Beautifully done this clip. Your combination, taste of sequence and sweet spots reached are lovely.

    • @Dexba
      @Dexba  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Oh yeah! At the time it was definitely too early for me to jump into modular: I was still trying to get a grasp of a Minilogue and a TR-8, so I ended up twisting knobs with little to no awareness of the process.
      Now I am confident I will be able to enjoy it way more, and at least steer it in my favour when I need it 🧡
      Thank you so much for your kind words, and have fun with your 0-Coast coming soon ☺

      I think you can't go wrong with a 0-Coast!
      It has been around for what it seems like forever, it sounds always better than we can transmit over recordings, and it's even small and fairly priced 😁

    gate and cv from an external sequencer?

    • @Dexba
      @Dexba  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes, I was using the Deluge.
      With only three cables, I wanted at least a bit of control, instead of resorting to the internal random generator ☺

    Back to modular!!? 😂 Does that mean you've sold your PRO 3 as didn't you buy that to replace ypur modular gear?

    • @Dexba
      @Dexba  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Back to modular indeed 😂
      And I don't even know why I did the extra -useless- step of buying a 0-Coast first, since I knew I would be getting a full-blown rack in a month ahah
      Anyway, here we are, and surprisingly enough, the PRO3 is still here, waiting inside its box for me to have a bit more of an organized space to play and record.
      But yeah, it probably failed its mission 🧡

      @@Dexba I've not gone down that that rabbit hole. Too scary! I have just bought an 0-coast though....for a bit of fun....which I may connect up to my PRO 3.... 🙂
