Considering this was done in 1968, the production on this is incredible. Put headphones in, it as if they are in the room with you. The vocals mixes are utterly breathtaking
@@4L3X3M not sure but in the album listed in the description it says original studio recording might just be in reference to the original recording's album though. If this is the original recording it's pretty astounding
The soaring phased mellotron, the serenely stacked harmonies like colours of a bewitching canvas , the baas line snaking through it all punctuating the tack piano at every turn as a narrative unwinds. This kind of synaesthesia in song is rare, but sometimes music matches a vivid story so well
That mellotron is perfection. Just love that sound. One of the great albums of the sixties is Odesesy and Oracle. If you like sixties stuff and haven't heard it, give it a go.
It was John Lennon's mellotron that was used. And they state "If it wasn't there it would have been a completely different album" This album is perfection!!
The tune that sounds like the song sheets of Brian Wilson and Paul McCartney were blown off a table, and Rod Argent picked them up and they were intermingled, because both styles are present in this song. Undoubtedly the most upbeat, happiest-sounding song about a prison inmate writing about his release from prison. I just heard this a few weeks ago and it already gives me earworms in a good way.
When I was in the mental hospital I would occasionally hear the Belvita ad on TV. This song helped me keep the last ounce of sanity I had left. Love Odessey and Oracle. Listen to it on repeat in my car.

This band was and still is one of the most underrated bands of all time, this album is ridiculously good should be up there for one of the greatest albums of all time
Took this album out from the library years ago as I knew of its legend. Loved this right away. Such a pretty song, hilarious it's about the girl being in prison.
Yes I’ve got the CD of O and O with some copy on the sleeve notes by both Rod Argent and Al Kooper. Al: “While in London recently I acquired 40 British LPs. Once home, I began to listen to all 40. This record stuck out like a rose in the garden of weeds.” Rod: “in the US, the album almost didn’t come out at all. CBS, at first, didn’t think it was a commercial proposition and only a chance to visit by Al Kooper to England at the time lead to its release. He returned to the States raving to all in sundry about the record and finally changed the company’s opinion.”
This song was written by Rod Argent, not Chris White, unlike what the credits say below. I’ve got my CD from Rhino and looking at the composers and Argent composed 5 of the 12 song original LP, Chris White wrote the other seven. Rod Argent and the singer Colin Blunstone deservedly get the lion’s share of attention in this group, but Chris White not only played bass and did harmony vocals (he’s got the low voice like John Lennon did in the Beatles: listen to his song “ Butcher’s Tale (Western Front 1914)” and that’s Chris singing solo) but he was a terrific composer in his own right! Also a great bass harmony vocalist a lot like Chris Difford to Glenn Tillbrook of Squeeze. You can hear that low harmony voice very prominently on most of the early Zombies recordings, I don’t think so much of that jumps out at you on this particular album.
REALLY? NOT the Vocal Harmonies??? THE ZOMBIES are Legendary for Their SINGING not their actual Musical Instrumentation, Don't You AGREE? Curious... TRULY!!!! 😂 And THEY'RE Absolutely ONE of MY FAVES, TOO... SO THERE!!! (But, YES, their Musical Talent is MOST AWESOME) 😂 ❤
