I'm glad this album is finally getting the attention it deserves. I skipped over it for far too long, believing it was their worst. Big mistake. It's AWESOME.
the worst Stones albums are the ones from the 80s after Emotional rescue. Put Their satanic majesties againts other psychedelic british albums from that era and it will be one of the best after the beatles ones, pink floyd debut, oddessey and oracle by the zombies, SF Sorrow by the PRetty things and Ogden nuts flake by the Small faces
Probably the most underrated album of all time. Just because it was different from their previous work it was misunderstood and slated. Well more fool them! It's an absolute gem of an album and one of my personal favourites
For the longest time, albums like the Who tommy did not sound good to people until things like TH-cam broke each song down 1 by 1 and then many people began to see the light finally
This is the mystical side now, Ronnie Wood was not with the band when this number was released. However little did they know that Ronnie is the Lantern, the hewer of light, the visual artist as well as musician. So carry the Lantern Ronnie High. Blessed Love JRSC est 1965 fan club.
In retrospect, a lot of critics and some listeners dismissed "Their Satanic Majesties Request" as psychedelic clap-trap. But the band really captured the essence of the era, and wrapped it all in colorful, if somewhat garish, graphics. But the garishness was part of the whole era, and should be understood as a means of capturing the psychedelic experience of LSD and the whole counter-culture of the time. The album is luscious, colorful, and one of their best. I am glad they returned to their roots with "Beggars Banquet", although at the time (I was 15 years old) I had hoped they would continue and even exceed the psychedelia of "Satanic".
"psychedelic clap-trap"? Who dares say psychedelic clap-trap? I agree with you. This is a great album, and the song somehow brings to mind, for me, The Hermit from the Tarot.
I grew up listening to this album my dad was a Woodstock kid ,and as a adult this is by far my favorite Stones album. I don't understand the hate this gets in my mind this is peak Stones (of course after Exile) 😉
The fact that this album is this good proves how powerful narratives can be. It also informs us about the stubborness of critics and fans, with both sometimes wanting to put an artist in a box. The Stones were never just a rhythm and blues band. They always seemed to venture off that genre as they went along. With Between the Buttons, but particularly TSMR, they colored outside the lines traced for them and payed for doing so.
This is the best album The Rolling Stones ever put out, and it nearly broke up the band! Everybody was too high, and half the band were screwing or marrying the other halves' wives or girlfriends. If that's what it takes to make a Stones album this unique and risqué, then on with the show, to hell with you!
I bought this cassette tape leading up to seeing the Stones for the first time in 1989 on the Steel wheels tour, where they olayed 2000 light years from home ! I love this album, anyone who ever tripped Acid would agree ! 😮😅😊
I wonder if this fantastical , glorious album from the 60's is outselling their last three released albums combined? I have always loved this album (still have the vinyl) and I'm glad to see other people lovin' it too. Old, new, the Stones were always great!

I'm a huge Beatles fan and will not budge from the fact they are the greatest band that ever was or will be, but i love the Rolling Stones music throughout the '60s right to their 1974 album It's Only Rock-'n'-roll. I love Psychedelic music and Their Satanic Majesties Request is a classic Psychedelic album. Sounding unlike anything the Stones had ever done, apart from their single of '67 We Love You/ Dandelion released months before Majesties Request. Love this album ✌️
Beautiful song. Always loved the instrumental passages, the cathedral bell, the double guitar intros, it's all great. I've been partial to this lp since it appeared in December of 1967, and my love for it has never wavered. Never could figure out why so many peopled dissed it. Idiots, I guess. I'm glad they're giving the album the treatment it merits on this 50th anniversary. These videos of the album tracks are a dream come true. Except that they screwed up the lyrics a little bit on some of them, unfortunately. Not too sure about this one, either. But nothing major here...
Yes. The Stones finally found their niche in psychedelia by this album greatly. It is definitely a truly under appreciated album to many, Stones fans or not, but it definitely takes on a life of it's own once enveloped in the psychedelic experience and even stone cold sober at that. I enjoy hearing this album any which way, but not.
We, on our present life, Knew that the stars were right. That if you are the first to go, You'll leave a sign to let me know, Tell me so. So, please carry the Lantern light. I've loved this album since 1981. I never knew that these videos for Satanic Majesties existed, so I'm binge-watching the entire album. Every day.
This album is light years away from the bluesy R&B of the early Stones music.
In a good way, I would add
