I worked at Tesla starting in July of 2017 as an Operations Analyst out of the Bethlehem, PA distribution center facility and left as a Program Manager based out of Austin, TX as of September 2021. I spent most of my time in the distribution and supply chain organizations.
Before Tesla, I was a Director of Business Intelligence and Pricing at the largest Pet Food & Supply distributor in the US, Phillips Pet Food & Supplies based out of Easton, PA. My wife and I also owned a small business in Bethlehem, PA between 2016 and 2019.
I have been a shareholder of Tesla since 2012 and currently own Tesla stock.
My thoughts are my own and are not representative of everyone who currently works, or has worked at Tesla.

This was a FUN conversation! Thanks for having me.
Thanks for coming on!
Why is this scheduled for December 22nd yet you have a "thanks for coming on" in the comments? This is weird.@@farzyness
We recorded the conversation a few days ago. It is being PUBLISHED after it was recorded ;) @@anthonylosego
Love you both other versions of WE in the kaleidoscope reality...
I could envision the world where Tesla rules 90% of the automotive industry all legacy automakers become bespoke coach builders where you design your own car and they build it for you for upstairs seeing amounts of money so that people can be different this is the only future that I see where legacy automakers even survive
Love these two together...two of my favorite Tesla TH-camrs.
Same!
Ryan is polite in a pod cast.. 😊
Thanks to both SMR and Farzad for your wonderful persectives and comtributions so helpful for us all
I love Farzads good mood - Love your happiness - you spread light and joy
Thank you guys, great conversation. Disrupting yourself, or someone will do it to you. That is the nature of technology economy.
2 freaking legends
2 blokes... But that's nice!
Wonderful to see you two together putting it together. Worth waiting for! Real equality there. Thanks so much. Happy holidays
I am glad you are together, great show!
Interesting point from SMR. You have to continually disrupt yourself or someone else will do it to you.
the fundamental determinant of competitiveness is pace of innovation
You boys work well together. I've followed SMR for a long time and Farzad the last six months. You should do them more often. Maybe bring in someone like Franz to talk to or even Elon every now and then.
SMR would blow a gasket if he got on a call with Elon.
@@thegormlesstwit849Elon would have his work cut out.
If the Bot gets to a point where it can thread a needle then it will be able to assist a surgeon during a surgery.
This is mind dending since this has civilian, militiary and space application - when humans travel in deep space in ships and need surgery or on Mars or the Moon.
I bet suture easier than cotton to thread.
No need to lick fibres into line.
Opti not got salivate mode yet.
Dude huge points! Tesla learns from everything and one of those things is not to repeat the mistake of the delayed cybertrucks after so many reservations were made.
both you guys rock!!! you make a good team.
You made me smile when talking about Optimus threading a needle - I imagined the engineers would need to add a lower jaw and tongue to help with licking the thread. Actually, there's still quite a few things we use our jaws and lips as a third hand for gripping, isn't it? 🤣
The channel I see when I wake up and the channel I see right before I go to sleep having conversations back to back days… I can get use to this 💯💪🙏 both of you helping us escape the matrix 😅
The cybertruck allready has that " package " concept where you buy the tesla battery and truck and power your house. Multiple levels of benefit.
Outstanding, thank you both!
Great dialogue of 2 of my fav Tesla enthusiasts
Excellent time spent! Thanks👊
Excellent work men! Thanks 👍
These two dudes are the best in the business at evaluating the disruptive ev market coming our way
Great chat with Steven. Farzed, pls consider a bi-annual chat ! Even better would be at a product launch event in person at Austin !
Wow! You earned my subscription! What an intelligent, in-depth discussion. Thanks for sharing!
Oh that was an awesome collab and this was the best of them loved it guys
Nice conversation. You guys are great together.
What a beautiful Christmas gift. (We still aloud to call it that)?Make sure there is no hold back, make it raw AF! 😂
Popcorn ready❤
this comment needs to be at the top! the logical reasoning with Farzy and SMR is refreshing
Steve and Farzad,, great session! I confirmed my Foundation CyberTruck All wheel 24 hours ago wh I’ve on vacation in the Mediterranean using my iPhone! First Quarter delivery in 2024!! Worth the 4 year wait . Maybe AG1 helped also…LOL. 40 CT / day in Austin already and Tesla may even deliver to our Home….
Hello there. I spoke to at least 5 uber drivers this summer who drive model Ys. This was in Vancouver BC. They told me that they charge their cars at night which is only $5-10/ mday and they can use it to drive the whole day. It was a much more profitable car to own than a gas car if you do a taxi service. It cost a lot but you make the money back in gas savings in a year or at least a year and half. At least 3 of them told me that they have not had any maintenance over the 3 years of owning. Some just got their cars last year and they really praise the model Y. They tried selling me how good model Y is but I just wanted to get some of their opinions while im traveling in the city.
Loved this! Thanks, Farzad
This show will be hilarious lol steve doesnt hold back rude comments
STM is abit laid back with harse words in someone elses pod cast..
Looking forward to another conversation next year!
Merry Christmas to me. Thanks Stephen and Farzad!
My GUESS is that NextGen production will be over 100 units/hr on each line, which is easily 600,000 per year per line. Sound crazy? GM was producing the Chevy Vega at 100/hr back in the 70s with minimal automation compared to today... and "design for automation" wasn't even a concept in the auto biz.
Happy Christmas SMR, producteur wife, and Farzy 🎉🎉
We need more of this
The gen2 walked was faster and smoother, the way it walks reminds me of special forces on a stealth mission, the head isn't bobbing up and down like normal humans walking. Its like soldiers looking through their gun sites as they walk keeping their eyesight/head level and smooth parallel motion to the ground.
Great content. My only quibble is that I believe that Tesla will make sure the next gen compact cat is significantly different than the Model 3. Based on the image from the Isaacson book, it appears that the new model will be a two seater and maybe also a three wheeler. Thus, I would expect there to be minimal cannibalism of the other Tesla models; a little bit of the Model 3, but about none of the Y, etc. For 25K, jettisoning some seats and wheels seems appropriate. I agree with Steven's point that demand for this vehicle will be almost unlimited; the car will bring electrification to many many millions.
No way will it be a three wheeler - not safe enough....
@@chrisheath2637 I always imagine they aren't as safe, but is that definitely true, or does it just SEEM true? The Aptera vehicles are so cool, would love to see a Tesla version, but I would kind of hate to see it just completely overshadow all Aptera's work and I think it definitely will if Tesla goes with a 3-wheeler.
An interesting aspect of a three-wheeler is it can be registered as an autocycle and doesn't have such stringent design rules as a 4-wheel car. That's the reason Aptera went down that route. So perhaps Tesla could make some cost savings by making it a three-wheeler?
@@aftonlineSafety cuts are not the kind of cuts Tesla is looking to make.
I don’t see Tesla building anything that can’t be a robotaxi. That means 4 seats to me.
Loving the conversation between the two of you ❤️
I was hoping syntetic muscles would had come further by now. Muscles have some advantages compared to motors.
Love this convo!
When the bot can hold a cat 🐈 everyone's job is replaceable.
great video❤🎉 Connecting The Dots made a great video about GM‘s dishonesty btw
I certainly agree that the Optimus robot will be working in Tesla factories in 2024, if not already. Tesla will not sell this for several years, but they will use 10k robots internally at their factories, Tier 1 & 2 suppliers, SpaceX first. This includes the assembly of Cybertruck and next gen Model 2. And then back to Model 3 and Y.
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year
❤😂🎉
SMR by second 30 one really sees how deeply you understand Tesla.
SMR is an American patriot!
Maybe if he were an American.
You two are the best. Way to end on that cliff hanger! 😂
I used to follow Steven, who is brilliant, but I confess I began to find his constant use of the word "moron" tiresome so, I cut it out. I get it and don't disagree with him, of course; it's an aesthetic choice. But this conversation with Farzad reminded me of how smart and righteous he is.
I think in general he calls a moron a moron.
I said I didn't disagree with him, I just found it tiresome after awhile.
Great show super good insight keep up the good work
Grata por assistir conhecimento e vida nos liberta
Great job guys
It’s basically a huge slow motion 25:30 train wreck for big auto. They’ve been selling the same crap in a different wrapper for decades. And I don’t see any CEO sleeping at the factory…
Steven said it and gets it at least to some extent but I am not sure Farzad got SMR’s comment and I don’t think he gets it.
The Gen 3 line will produce more than one type (model) of car but several without changing the line. All at 6 times the rate of VW and be within the 17k to 25k price range at full production. It will be unlike any line before!
It would be wild if they made it $20k delivery at once.
10.000 allready made for delivery, and it will drive itself home to you with FSD, and be delivered next day!
They make 10M firtst year end they just killed the autoindustry!
Good luck ICE companies!
My favourite thing to say to any opponent is: Best of luck, you’re going to need it, and they will.
@@hardcoreherbivore4730
Yeah my point is kind of the competition could catch up with Tesla, but actually I think that there is a bigger chance of FSD, a sub $20k car and +10M units made anually, and then it is just game over.
That ending.
Well said Farzad! 👏
When threading the needle, how will Optimus (without a mouth) moisten of the thread to make the thread fit into the eye of the needle?
model 2 ramp is needed to grok and optimus to get processing power met
I agree Steven. A leader leads.
I agree with you guys I think it's going to be shock and awe
You guys should do videos like this together regularly!
What will be margins, battery spec etc?
Farzad back down from legacy Auto being done by 2030. I think they will be done the minute the first Gen 3 plant ramps! They will be “burnt to a crisp” when all Gen 3 plants ramp.
I’m very excited about the potential of X. Hopefully it could be a real competitor of TH-cam.
GM builds stuff for the US military, example the old Hummers, and that is probably why the Government can't let it fail. They also build the custom armored Presidential Cadillac every year
Why wouldn’t the military buy Cybertrucks? Vastly superior product, minimal maintenance, cheap to run….bullet proof!
@@dougm659 yes hopefully. Most major US corporations including phone companies have Non Disclosure Agreements with the Federal government.
Excellent convo...& The Governor in giga Mexico announced the factory will triple in size.
Proven cut and paste processes is faster than you think
Yup... But he's full of it!!
The base model will be stripped down to 200 mi with no auto-pilot and spartan interior. It is a commuter EV. To get greater range, bells/whistles, and nice interior will increase price to 30K, but still a good value against competition.
13:16 ya I thought it was CGI at first, I couldn't believe it.
I find it hard to believe they'll be able to thread a needle by next year.
At the beginning of 2023, more than 11 millions robotic surgeries have been performed worldwide with Intuitive Surgical Da Vinci robots, with over 7500 platforms installed worldwide
Without better quality, production speed will not be necessary.
6:33 - hey, how about a rescue service? Somebody breaks down in the middle of the night, tow truck says 20 minutes, shows up in 2 1/2 hours, but my car is sitting in the driveway five minutes away, IT can show up and charge his car, or take him home, if it’s some other issue & has to wait for the tow truck
Nice video. You guys should have a duo channel, like Bobby Lee and his bro...
4:55 for 25k car you need more super charger stations across the US
As I understand it, Tesla has legal obligations about making an announcement with regard to the Model 2 and it is this: if some players in the share market become aware of beneficial information then Tesla MUST release that information to the whole market. Companies that fail to do this can be and are put into a trading halt.
Just guessing here single front & back unicast frame, LFP battery pack, single front screen for nav & entertainment, drive by wire, hatchback, 2 door, 4 seat & folding back seats.
Great interview again! Too bad its only in 720p...
How old are you that 720p is not enough for you for 2 talking heads.
@RyNiuu How old are you that 720p is enough for anything in 2023? You might as well go back to 1MP pictures too then, since it's only your face on it. A 2K, 4K webcam/camera hardly cost anything nowadays, and if it's content you create and get revenue from that, your standard of quality should be the best if you have +100K followers.
Awesome
I think there must be two levels of autonomy. Autonomy for self and Robotaxi. Business software and even content is always carries a premium as wholesale share of the retail deal. Perhaps its just a straightforward cut of robotaxi revenues.
Most exciting stream so far haha
Word.
The funny part there are tools used to tread a needle and a thread.
Actually threading a needle is not the point….the level of dexterity demonstrated by this task is what matters…it means the bot can do almost anything that human hands can do!
@@dougm659 it's all about picking the right tools.
Forget threading the needle, try picking the sucker up.
I heard that Tesla is buying Nerf corporation. They're going to use Nerf foam and vinyl skins for the Cybertruck outside of the North American market. They will be able to comply with pedestrian regulations in foreign countries.
Imagine an Apple factory in USA with Optimus bots building iPhones.
I predict June 2024 first deliveries for the model 2
Do we have *ANY* idea of what the new Tesla is going to look like? Sedan? Hatchback? SUV? Wagon? 2-door? 4-Door? FWD? RWD? AWD? Size?
It's not just Tesla. The Chinese are also coming.
Have they invented a fire extinguisher to put out the thermal fires yet? That UK car park fire destroyed over 1,500 cars as well as the multi million dollar car park. All from one hybrid/battery 🔥 4:15
I think you are referring to the Luton airport fire. This was caused by a diesel Land Rover SUV, nothing to do with EVs at all, because Land Rover don’t make any!
Afternoon guys
Do you think that the new compact will come "bare bones" but will have the ability to download all the features you want? Like Dog Mode? Curious what you think.
It won't have all the hardware features, like heated seats and a 17 speaker stereo.
Dog mode is a safety feature so I don’t think they will hold that back but there will definitely be a $2000 performance boost and charge for internet features. They will eventually get a top down camera view to help with parking, they will charge for that. Heated seats maybe. More than 2 profiles? GPS features like disable century mode and open garage door.
Probably single cast structural frame, no seperate front and back castings.
we gonna be going from cost of ownership to profit via ownership real quick, REAL QUICK!
If Ford was smart, they would use the model 2 platform to bring back the focus ev.
Will the next generation vehicle have a 48v architecture and have a stainless body?
Be careful not to forget about China guys !
Google needs to add Bard's response to their homepage. Or X will do one first!
The bot don’t need to be super mobile. If it could just sit or stand at a factory and replace the activity of a human worker. It’s a game changer. I love to see a Tesla bot factory that make tesla phones to replace apple
I want my Tesla compact or any Tesla under 25g's! Hopefully before my 21 year old Honda dies. I think the need for this is so much greater than the need for a robo taxi at this time.
Is Tesla becoming Cyberdyne systems?
