There were a few comments he made here which indicate that he is closer to 95 years old. He speaks as though he was a teenager in the 1940's which would put him around 100 years old. Compared to TV ads, the number of people that will talk or learn about cybertruck is tiny. The former woyod have made Tesla a household name by now instead of that mysterious tech thing.
You heard Jay talk about "why" in the video.... all the misconceptions the public has and lack of education about EVs. He gave multiple examples of the public... AKA Tesla's potential customers, being misinformed about EVs. This hurts the entire EV industry by reducing the customer pool.

Spending on advertising would get the mainstream media companies on your side. They give good press to the companies who spend on ads with them. Bad press for those who don’t.
I wouldn't either, and for someone to say that tesla is the finest they have ever driven is insane because there are several cars that are better but I will say the car is better then the truck, that thing has NO style or lines or anything its like watching an 80's sci-fi flick and seeing one of their ugly cars that has now come to public. Such a pity they didn’t take it through difficult hilly off-road or trackless country. That was but a minor interlude any old 2WD Ford F100 could have breezed through, even in the unlikely possibility that ‘creek crossing’ may have required some tyre deflation for extra traction!
Yeah it needed to have a side-by-side with some comparison vehicles on the off-road otherwise it's impossible to tell from the camera shots how the clearance and traction actually is.
When I rented a model 3 for my first ever Tesla experience the screen was a little daunting. You can’t hunt when driving. So I found the steering wheel button allowed for speech and controlled everything with my voice. This was super cool.
Really a valid concern, the difference being an acute pain on 12v vs acute VF event with 48v. Interestingly no other cybertruck engineering video touched this topic. Definitely Tesla has already taken care of it, through more precise current monitoring, enhanced soft fuses(aka e-fuse), special service mode and even a 48V pyro fuse😮 for those unpredictable conditions and a dedicated 12V hazard blinkers wired to a 12v dedicated stepdown converter.
Well, 48v wouldnt shock you unless you touched the leads to your tongue or similar, so it isn't really a problem. At around 75v you can start to feel a slight tingle in your fingers if slightly sweaty.
@@maxms6087 Search on the biomedical term VF and apply some basic calculation based on nominal skin resistance. Also you should be familiar with threshold of pain and threshold of VF in terms of electric current, to undertstand the implications. To make it short, don't even think about hot wiring a 48v system or messing with the electrical system, without proper safety protocol, unless, you do all on a floating platform, with the use of only a single hand, engaging one terminal at a time😂.
@@aware2actionwattage is all that matters. It’s the same wattage at higher voltage because it’s less current. Electric fences run at thousands of volts and don’t kill people. The static shock you get touching a door knob in the winter runs around 30,000 volts.
@@kalasmournrex1470 When it comes to biological systems, current is all that matters(that too in the 10"s of mA). The electric fence induces extreme pain only, because it is current limited to less than 20mA. It is also the same reason, why an inappropriate contact with LoT in a Vacuum Tube TV is quite dangerous. The same applies to the static shock during winter. Wattage applies to electrical loads, when they produce work in terms of heat or kinetic energy. Also there are limited situations, where things could be dangerous, when it comes to biological exposure.
what a great video with insight within the companies lead designers head. this video didn't get enough headline media attention because its basically just some guys driving around a truck. but there were a few things said by the designers that caught me by surprise. Supercalafragalistic!!! I was trying to think of an adjective to adequately reflect how incredible this car, this company and this video really is. And like someone else pointed out, done with such humble elegance. The engineering and design elegance of this vehicle and the calm, cool and humerus presentation by these three men speak volumes about what now America can claim as our technological leadership in the world. I can’t afford one but boy do I want to drive one. I recent bought a Bolt EUV and it is the best car I’ve ever owned after decades of very nice Honda’s. I’ll be looking to trade in our CRV soon and I’m test driving every car I can get my hands on in these remaining months on my lease. So far I’ve done the Lyriq, Ariya, Blazer, Ionic 6, Mach e, EQS, and the Volvo C40. I plan to rent a Tesla through Turo so I can get a feeling for that. Basically I’m completely sold on total electric. They are so completely quick, quiet, comfortable and completely modern in every way. I think and hope they are the future and its companies like Tesla and people like you who, pioneers in your way, who help create and then lead us into the future. By recognizing China’s investments and both working with while competing with these powerhouse nations on the world stage, you are demonstrating that America continues to be a great nation of imagination, innovation, prosperity and progress.

It's important to remember that drag coefficient is not a measure of how much energy it takes to move through wind. It's a function of the force divided by area. So a vehicle could take more energy to move through the wind, but have a lower drag coefficient if it's area is larger.
so true. the cybertruck is quite literally a truck with an almost flat front end, quite difficult to argue a low drag coefficient. would love to see it in a wind tunnel to test their claims

@@wrth legally, they could be sued for false advertising if the number provided is wrong, so I doubt that they would take such a huge risk just to lie about a stat that most people don't care/know about. @moogle6 European car makers including Mercedes achieve low coefficient of drag numbers by using skinny tires, taping the windows, covering the vents, and other cheats. cD numbers aren't regulated like MPG and Wh/km numbers, and we know manufacturers are "creative" with the latter.

Jay is a legend. I used to bump into him up at the Rock Store when I was a kid, he was always friendly to everyone showing off whatever exotic car he had for the day. Franz & Lars seem like genuinely nice, smart guys. But, what happened to the 500 mile range and the solar panels on the roof / tonneau cover? Those were the two most important features for me. Also concerned about the $470 tires (each), how long will those last? I was hoping this would make an epic overlander / baja surf rig but not so sure. Someone talk me into keeping my reservation.
Cybertruck was oversold. I was impressed with Elon musk and his apparent drive to engineer and manufacture a very unique truck design. However, after he launched the vehicle far short of the advertised 500 mile range on a 200kWH battery, I am no longer impressed and wary of any claim he makes regarding future products. I am seriously looking at GM and Silverado EV with a 470 mile range for a 200kWH battery with the Lithium CMA battery chemistry which is clearly superior to Tesla’s lithium FLP battery chemistry. No additional battery extended is required for the SilveradoEV.
@@jvaubryCybertruck has a 123KWh battery made of the Gen 2 4680 cell that gets about 340 miles of range while the GMC Hummer/Chevy Silverado EVs have a 250KWh battery made of the Gen 1 Ultium cell. Tesla's range extender is said to be an additional 50KWh, so a 173KWh Tesla pack that gets 470 miles (dual motor) vs 250KWh GM pack that gets ~450 miles for the Silverado version (390 miles for the Hummer on the same 250KWh) shows how efficient the Tesla can be. Edit: the GMC Hummer gets about 330 miles on the 250KWh battery.
Still got the tonneau. Solar panels don't get you much, but it is frustrating that Elon keeps making promises. If he said 500 mile range then he should stick to it, but 470 is close.
The p-1 must be pretty special. Jay brings it up every episode. And before anyone says anything, i know of the car. I know what it is and does. It must be a masterstroke of engineering is what I'm saying.
But I like the GM and Ford EV trucks look more. Soon the North American standard will be the Tesla plug and the one big advantage of this truck won’t exist.
As a submarine designer, i love the positive pressure approach to leakage. It really is the solution becuase leaks are unavoidable in such a complex and mass produced assembly. Clever stuff! Being silly, you could make the battery pack leak free at the bottom of the sea if you link the positive pressure to water pressure + Thats how we do it.

She knew what she was getting into and I'm sure she had plenty of time to think about just what exactly would happen if she were, or let me rephrase that, WHEN she was caught and this whole thing came out into the open. I can't remember specifically just how this was all brought into the light but hell, I wouldn't be surprised if she didn't play a role in it. I'm sure she was thinking, "Any fame/mention is good fame/mention!" Underestimating just what came of everything was probably the real issue. Jay has lived long enough to see such a vast difference in the past and the future of automotive technology. What a thrill that must be. Best of health and longevity to you, Jay! We love ya.
There were a few comments he made here which indicate that he is closer to 95 years old. He speaks as though he was a teenager in the 1940's which would put him around 100 years old. He was at driving age before the 1953 dual headlight Corvette? He only had 6 volt batteries? They switched to 12 volt around 1953. His statements are very confusing and difficult to reconcile.

Jay Leno has always been one of those down to earth, good guys.
Why on earth would Tesla spend millions on advertising when you have superb, intelligent, and compelling content like this to watch online whenever you want?
Compared to TV ads, the number of people that will talk or learn about cybertruck is tiny. The former woyod have made Tesla a household name by now instead of that mysterious tech thing.
You heard Jay talk about "why" in the video.... all the misconceptions the public has and lack of education about EVs. He gave multiple examples of the public... AKA Tesla's potential customers, being misinformed about EVs. This hurts the entire EV industry by reducing the customer pool.

They dipping their toes, experimenting with various forms of ads, to see what works best.
Word of mouth can convert a lot of people, but at some point it's not enough anymore. According to surveys most people still have fundamental misconceptions about EV, that needs to be fixed.
Spending on advertising would get the mainstream media companies on your side. They give good press to the companies who spend on ads with them. Bad press for those who don’t.
Tesla doesn't spend money on advertising. They even fired their entire PR department.

19:27 Jay already imagining a 48V shock...he's really testing the limits of his denim powers 😂
