Dresser Makeover: Adding Legs

- With this dresser makeover we wanted to try something new. It needed an update and we wanted to go modern. We cut off the existing base and added 6 inch gold legs. This gave it some height as well as a modern look. We replaced the hardware with modern gold hardware and painted it Iron Ore from Sherwin Williams. We did have some trouble with the finish but in the end I think it turned out well.

Beautiful 😻 thank you
How this only has 1000k and not 100,000k views I will never know. Nice work!
You really transformed this piece…loved the end results…it’s a beauty.
Use a bit of lemon oil over that finishing wax. It's not good wax to put over paint, but a bit of lemon oil or furniture polish will help
wax is always best on raw wood. Use a poly on painted or stained wood for extra durability. No need to use wax or poly if you are using a latex paint or cabinet paint
I plan on doing my older son's dresser. It looks similar to this one and I have the same hardware and feet already purchased .The only difference is I am painting it black with natural drawers and top. I have a contemporary stencil I may use on the wood part of the drawers
So beautiful !!!
I had this same issue with wax on stain. No matter what I did (by hand or polishing with my festool), it showed swirls and blotches. First matte swirls and then super shiny ones lol. I was doing a bench top, so when I did the other bench I used way less wax and I really rubbed it into to the paint in circles as I went along. Rubbed it into the paint inch by inch to the point to where it didn't have a chance to dry and it was invisible. I didn't need to really buff it off afterwards and there were no swirls and it looked awesome.
Oh man being sick is awful. I've missed so many of your videos. Everything looks AMAZING.. keep up the good work
Being sick is no fun at all. Hopefully you feel better soon and thanks for the support!
Gorgeous!!!
Beautiful!!!
Wow, nice job
Get the wax that’s made for paint. Behr makes a good one
Thanks! I will look for that.
@@TheInexperiencedAdventures I use Varathane Polyurethane. It's permanent and doesn't yellow on whites and lighter paints. I also like they have a great customer service line with live personal experienced and knowledgeable experts where you can call and get advise. And since Rustoleum/Varathane are known for their great quality, I like that. But that's just me. Waxing has to be redone every 6-12 months and I've heard it takes allot of experience to get used to it. I believe waxing is more for Chalk and Milk Paints. I know many people use General's Finish as well and it has good reputation but it's more expensive. Otherwise, since you're using SW Paint, you might ask them. Love this piece and how you showed us how to replace the legs. Since that's what this lesson was about A+++.
You did a beautiful job it would be nice to hear you talking through your steps with us to help us have a great day and thanks for sharing
Narrating would be very helpful - what you're using and why, etc. But the piece looks good.
Can you tell me where you found the feet? I love that look and want to raise a dresser I already have that is flat bottom
I believe I ordered them from Amazon.
I’m wondering why you used wax at all? It’s not necessary over SW Emerald paint. I sometimes put a polyacrylic over it, but the paint itself is fine once it completely dries.
This was before I found out they don't recommend a top coat. This channel is all about learning for me. I'm fairly new to all this stuff. I don't put anything over this paint anymore unless it's something I feel needs extra protection.
What roller did you use to paint the dresser?
I don't remember. It wasn't anything special.
Did you put poly on, then wax on top? If so that could have been the problem. You do one or the other.
Nope. It was just the wax.
@@TheInexperiencedAdventures it is a beautiful piece. ❤️
@@TheInexperiencedAdventures 6:26 Ok 😂 no need to lie..like you said “your channel is about learning” ✌🏼
@@jsheldon1976 didn't lie...we didn't put poly on the top of the piece. Just the drawers. Honestly don't even remember why we did it that way.
