That was awesome when Layne was just waiting to take the baritone and Maynard went up an octave. It sounds so cool with them singing in harmony. It was great to hear the lower notes from Layne during that explosive crescendo Tool does so well. This was a treat for me. ❤❤
I was there. Was 22 and still in the Navy. Went to this one and the one next year, but this one was the best. That whole weekend was a blast. Me and my buddies hung out, got drunk, and saw some of the best live music ever. Still love Tool...still live on Oahu.

Layne is an unbelievably powerful vocalist the fact that Maynard can be heard louder just shows how powerful of a voice Maynard has I wish they did more with Layne here though

That was a very unique show for us because we provided the front of house system but another company did the monitors using our Ramsa console and their own equipment. I set up a DAT recorder under the stage and before each band I would go start recording then just goof off for a while
The mountains at your back and the tree behind the stage. The was 1st time I saw Tool and have been my favorite band ever since. OMG those pits were ridiculous. I would be blowing dust out my nose for weeks afterwards. Good times!
God, that heavy bass is badass! They all sound awesome! Tight band! They were playing with Rage in the Socal desert back in the day and I didn't make it go right to go, from Eugene Or. Dammitt.
God I love this era of Tool, saw them in 94 in Vancouver and it was pretty much like this, just raw anger ball of awesome energy! Went with a buddy and told him these guys a going to be the next big thing , I wasn't a grunge fan, so tool really appealed to me because it was different, I didn't want to mosh out, all I wanted to do was listen and enjoy. It was like watching a band like Pink Floyd where all you wanted to do was take it all in! Great Times!

I remember being in the middle when it erupted. It actually got pretty muddy after awhile. Glad I had my Doc Martins. Found this DB in the pit we all hated and sent him flying. Good times! Thanks for the memories!
It's 1993 asshole unless they have time travelers in attendance cell phones didn't exist it the capacity they do now. The looked like bricks and you could only use the for calls. I payed over 2 grand to see tool in November and yes I had my phone out to record a once in a lifetime show as anyone would.
Layne use to get into the music.... Then he just didnt care anymore. It seemed he just didnt want to be part of it around 1994. So sad. Layne is awesome.

No. You can barely hear is bass & Adam was their main riff writer even in the early days & the band is 100x better since adding Chancellor. His bass playing & composition is light years ahead of Paul's abilities.

I was pretty far back enjoying the rest of the place, beer gardens, smoking. I remember seeing Maynard just going nuts and thinking that I need to look into this band some more. Other acts that were there (but may have been at the following or previous year) were Porno for Pyros, Social distortion, Stone Temple Pilots, Chokebore, Blind Melon...probably more. The stage was facing the Koolau mountain range. Our view was the Pacific Ocean and Chinamans Hat (a small islet) and a hurricane was approaching. It rarely got much better than that. Great lineup, amazing setting. Impending doom. Now I am old and agreeing with my wife that we should try to catch Nora Jones sometime, somewhere. smh

I didn't really know this 'Big Mele' festival had happened on Oahu until it was over and done ... later I realized that I'd missed TOOL, Primus, Stone Temple Pilots, Fishbone (and oddly, Violent Femmes) .... I've flown there to see TOOL there 3 times now (2001 2006 2011) ....

Dave O. Day was a big Radio Free Hawaii name back in the day. The station was started by Norm Winter. Those were the days. I was young, in the Navy, just met my girlfriend(now wife) who was a local Japanese girl. No worries when I wasn't at work..just hanging out with our group and doing stuff like this. I still love Tool and I still live on Oahu. I didn't realize that Radio Free Hawaii was going to be such special thing/time in my life. Oahu sucks without Radio Free Hawaii.

That lineup sounds like the '94 Mele. This one ('93) was Tool, Violent Femmes, Fishbone, Primus, STP, and maybe some others that I'm forgetting.
