Fantastic drill. Totally addressed my issue of hitting great, powerful and straight shots but always going 20 to 30 degrees left. Thank you so much.
Love it!!
Watching your videos for some time now, always so informative.
Thank you!
Thank you for your support! Hope the videos help your game!
Been watching you for ever Eric. We appreciate the amazing content. You stay on the subject at hand which is not easy to do when you're talking golf swing. Keep growing, you deserve it.
Really appreciate that!
I do this drill all the time but the key for me was to add as much external rotation to my trail arm on the way down, so my right elbow leads the way for as long as possible. Fixed years of flipping and relying on timing for my golf swing.
Love it!

This perfect timing Eric, I’ve recently videoed my swing 😭for the last twenty years I’ve been casting and didn’t know it. This drill I believe will help a lot. Many thanks for making these Eric…
you got it---hope it serves you well!!
Awesome video. Keep it up! Love it!!!!! 🏌️♂️
Thanks!
You always explain things so we’ll master Eric
Appreciate ya Stevie---hope you're doing well!
Awesome Eric! You continue to provide fantastic insight in a way that is simple to understand. Thank you 🙏🏻 Following your instruction the last couple of years has done more for my game than a lifetime of traditional instruction has. Cheers sir.
👊Appreciate your support, Mike! Love to hear this!!
Great video and great drill. Pointless trying to play decent golf unless you do this move.Creates
the room and power to use the body and club properly. Well done Eric
Thanks Gary!
Best video I've seen on this.
Thanks Travis!
That an amazing drill Eric .. that the first time someone has explained it and how it works..thank you …one day I will train with you ..thanks
👊
Thanks Edward! Hope this one helps your game!
@@CogornoGolfhow do you add power without quickly pulling the arms once you get the hang of it?
This is spot on. The two of three fundamental moves to play golf decently (third is weight shift). This is what AMG guys have been teaching for years. Try speeding the arm move down with longer clubs if you struggle hitting them. Not a yank but just a little more time. Longer clubs need more time to get to the ball.
👊👊
Hope this one serves you well!
Great video Eric 👍
Thanks Matt!
I have following your channel. As a taller player (6'4"), I am always struggling to keep my club on plane…went outside and practiced this drill, hit a couple dozen balls and hit with more solids contact! GREAT video, thank-you!
Glad this one helped, William! Our pleasure!
Nice session for me Eric in re-enforcing keeping my hands low and inside. That's the message I got, Hope it's right.-Stay well-Russ
Yessir! Thanks russ!
Good job Eric. Reminds of Peter Croker’s “A to B” drill.
👊
Thank you, Arnold!
Excellent video Eric, what else can us 2/10’ers that push/hook (or power fade as I like to call it) do to help with the rotation. I always feel like that is easier said than done.
Thanks!
If you push hook I would do one of these or both:
1. Increase the amount of rotation/side bend of torso in downswing earlier
2. Add in a practice station to keep club on plane not under

This is really KEY information. Great video ONCE AGAIN. Edit: Does anyone else get a crack up at the hank haney ads lol!
Thank you!! :)
Amazing content 👌 👏 ✨️
Thank you!
I saw a video of Justin Rose explaining this exact same drill on the PGA tour youtube channel. It is definitely a good "feel vs real" drill
Absolutely, between Justin, Eric and Shaun and Mike at Athletic Motion Golf, this was a true 💡 for me. Eric already knows how I feel about them, and this move. As a tall guy I have to give some priority to the downward part. No such thing as being passive with the arms, got to em moving!
100%
As a feel I agree with this. In reality most amateurs need to speed up the arms and slow the body down. In the measurement of pros swings their fastest acceleration occurs from the top to about just less then halfway down. Again most amateurs start down too slowly. Too many mid and high handicappers have the arms trailing way behind the body at P6 and are forced to flip and have that look of the hands even with the right thigh at impact.
Great drill though and I find your videos very informative. 👍
Thank you!
This is definitely the most important golf instruction video on the internet. Without this, you will never consistently hit good shots.
👊
Appreciate you being here with us, Winston!
Very nice drill, i so needed this... now go get a lesson on camera focus 😉
:) Hope it helps!
Eric, do you recommend the same drill for driver, hybrids, and fairway woods?
Yes I do! Good to feel what the arms do with no body motion for all clubs
Of course when you add the body motions back in that will bring the club back out and forward
I prefer to let my arms fall, not do anything consciously with my arms. Takeaway, back swing and down swing. Soft arms and shoulders. Limber wrists. Let the momentum created by rotation be the source of the release of wrists and hands, almost as if it occurs after impact. And, as long as I keep the club head well outside my hands on the takeaway, I hit really great shots.
I like it---nothing wrong with that if that produces good outcomes!
Thanks Eric! Keep up the great instruction. Really like your collaboration with Trevor Salzman & JT Thomas. @@CogornoGolf
Eric, This seems to go against what I've been trying to do i.e. hold the angles. Doesn't this cause "dumping of angles" and "casting"? Thanks very much. Ron
Hey Ron!
This drill should not cause the wrist angles to early release...but the key is to always check yourself on video to confirm!
Here is another video you may enjoy checking out where we talk through shallowing AND the wrist angles together👍

Hope this helps!
Question: when trying new drills - Is it helpful to use a weighted club (like Momentus) to develop muscle memory to ingrained the feel? Or is there a risk of timing?
Hey Ken!
Thats a great question.
I'm not sure.
Will have to test and see....COULD help. Could risk messing things up...I would just make sure Im using video the whole time to see what I'm actually doing
I haven't done much with that to say
Great video Eric.
I had a swing feel once where I felt like I was ringing a bell (pulling a string straight down) from the top and it worked great. Excited to give your drill a try.
Thanks Cody! That can work!! Of course in real swing want to make sure the body is moving along with it!
Bought two of these shirts from lil Collar & Co. store downtown Chicago great shirts long and short sleeve. Nice material
Love to hear that! They should pair really well in fall/winter also with a sweater or similar over them!
Help Eric. I just saw your video with JT about the torso sway and now watching this one I’m confused. How do they fit together? Sequence? Or not go together? Maybe I watch too many of your videos??
The downswing into impact and finish is what I have been working on with Steve Holmes.
Lol yeah maybe too many :)
This one just about the arms....if you took out the body motion all today.....the arms would go DOWN and BACK
When you through in the body rotation that brings the arms OUT and FOWARD.
Depends on your current pattern. Some players need to think about the body and not the arms at all. Some need opposite. Key to find on video where you're off to figure out how to get back on!
Good version of ride the wall drill without a wall.
Yes! Good call!
I've been focusing on what feels like initiating the downswing by dropping the arms, I fully expected to pull my shots left, instead I found my ball striking improved and became more consistent.
Excellent!!
Will this apply on half and 3/4 swings as well? Thanks
Same FEELS for just the arms part yes.....of course in real swing you want to have the body rotating and moving to match up to get the low point forward
touching the ground with the clubhead by your right foot during practice drills is only possibly if you excessively downhinge your wrists, which is something you never really want, so I am not sure how this can be of any help?
Hey Tom....well its DOWNWARD hinge....ulnar deviation.....which you ABSOLUTELY do need at impact.
Your wrists will be unhinged DOWN (ulnar deviation) not FORWARD......thats the difference.
Of course this is a drill and a bit exaggerated but the wrists need to unhinge nonetheless
I hear what you're seeing but check this out I think will help explain what Im saying:
th-cam.com/video/U5w_7XwaVks/w-d-xo.html&pp=ygUdRXJpYyBDb2dvcm5vIHdyaXN0cyBkb3duc3dpbmc%3D
I generally have what most consider to be a “strong” grip. Is this drill promoting a weaker grip?
Hey Regan! You can do this drill with any grip style!
I like this drill for shallowing but I do find that the arms get a bit left behind this way. I don’t get that p6 position where the hands are in line with the trail thigh. Instead, they’re still behind the thigh from that lowering move and then I throw the angles to catch the clubhead up. Any thoughts?
For sure-----that sounds like you don't have enough of the rotation part.
Think of it like a pie chart (50% arms drop and 50% body rotation)
The body rotation (pelvis and ribcage) brings the arms OUT and FORWARD
@@CogornoGolf thanks for the response! I'll give that a go. My misses are a pull and a push-fade, never a slice. Would that be consistent with that?
Amazing .. only wish you could have pulled out ur driver!
Thanks Tony!
This one is good to feel what the arms do with no body motion for ALL clubs, including driver👍
Of course when you add the body motions back in that will bring the club back out and forward
How do you do this with speed Eric?
Speed up the body along with it!
When I do this with driver, in practise swings I hit the ground. Does that mean I early releasing the shaft. Not happen with any other club
Happened a lot to me too. Was able to fix it with 2 things: earlier pressure shift and a more stacked upper body feel at set up (i.e. less bend to the right). Hope this helps.
Yeah good answer Claro!
Keep here is this is JUST A FEEL
This is what you would feel if there was no body motion at all....in a real swing you through the body motion in with this
If you hit behind the ground you COULD be early releasing it but FIRST I would make sure you have the body motions to go with this....specifically
1. Body rotation (belt buckle and shirt buttons to target)
2. Weight shift to lead side
Both of those will help move low point forward
@@CogornoGolf Thanks for this, Eric. 👌
I need to swing with slow arms
I need a grip with an easy touch
I wanna flush the ball straight & true
Not shank & knife in a heated rush
SAME :)
Same drill as the one video that featured TS
Same stuff yep!
Same drill using a driver?
Same FEELS for all clubs to feel what the arms would do with NO body motion......remember this is just a FEEL....real swing body is shifting and rotating with it
It was said that Bobby Jones downswing towards the ball was only slightly faster than if he just let gravity pull the club towards the ball.
Good visual!
Awesome video. Keep it up! Love it!!!!! 🏌️♂️
Thank you!
