Man this tip is killer!! I went to the range today and tried it out and it’s amazing how flush I was hitting the ball and compressing the ball. I’m 6 foot six and my miss is generally either an early extension or coming up out of it a little bit and hitting it a little thin although I do get a lot of quality shots. This drill completely changed my ball striking!!! It’s a great feel to focus on, thank you!!!😎👍⛳️
Eric does such a good job communicating what he’s teaching. Where your body is, how it should feel and why it works. When he explains things, you never have to say, “what does he mean by that”? Great job Eric!
Mr Cogorno! Excellent instruction and drills once again. My last two games have been outstanding throughout the bag, and the 'sound' is awesome..! (even brought it as a preset into my short game around the greens)... Thanks, William
I saw a clip from this on instagram earlier this week. 11 strokes off my round from previous game as @2:50 is exactly what I looked like in my swing video! Going to keep focusing on these tips!
Such a simple instruction. This is my flaw recently. Standing up through the ball and thinning the life out of it. Will try this out tomorrow and hope that it will help me regain my confidence
Great lesson Eric, I tried this tip at the range and loved the results. Hitting the ball solid and trajectory is much higher. Covering the ball and getting the right shoulder down is a game changer!
One of the best insights provided by Eric. Hi presentation of he info clicked with me just like all the others and allow me to see things like trhis one I was overlooking. The issue here is we wamnt to see the shot, we think we are watching golf like on TV seeing the tracer from impact through flight and then the final roll out. The best we will see once you understand it is the ball approaching its apex. TY dude! by the way your tips have improved my game all built on your one piece take away. All the best.
Wow! I’ve been struggling with early release of the club and lack of consistency when it comes to ball striking. After watching this one lesson, completely changed the feel at impact and I’ve not hit the ball this good in a long time. Such a great way to explain how to get the club in the correct position at impact! Love the lessons.
Eric, first off thanks so much for all the detail you put in your videos. You are by far my favorite instructor. Now my question... how do you transition to straight arm and upward flex from here that you teach in your other videos? I find it hard to combine these two distinct swing thoughts (cover ball and right arm bent vs upward extension and straight arms through the swing).
ITs the TIMING that matters..... Watch these where I go through it in detail: th-cam.com/video/fDkoZCgSItE/w-d-xo.html th-cam.com/video/ZWOR8CiNWtw/w-d-xo.html th-cam.com/video/C1CmqUfeTUQ/w-d-xo.html th-cam.com/video/hJ5scchaRPQ/w-d-xo.html
This is a good tip! I have a tendency to stand up instead of staying down. I can’t wait to try it ,my house is right behind the 7 Th. about 90 yards. Great instructions!
Best drill ever! Finally fixed my early extension. Just went to the range and was tossing darts at the flags with my irons. Gonna be my go to for a while til I have it perfected with all clubs. Finally rotating full hip turn with this. Also fixed my toe deep divots. Thanks Eric.
Why hokey players hit the ball a mile... Played with a few of them before. They tend to slice the hell out of it a lot though cause they open up a lot if they are off
Excellent video. How does this covering of the ball fit in with thrusting up off the ball and extending the back that you recommend? On a separate note, Live View has a new version coming out shortly , with a large discount if pre-ordered this week. Have you seen the new version and can you tell us if the new version is a big improvement? Thank you.
This is going to be a real challenge compared to my current swing Eric! But I see the logic behind it. I’m a stack and tilt guy but this seems to apply with any swing.
Really nice advice, I instantely got some really nice ball strikes by using the bent wrist and right arm advice! One related question. For me the bending of the wrist causes more of a closed clubface, which leads to quite big hooks. How do I offset that?
Hey Markus....several options 1. Point face more right at setup 2. Close face less in backswing 3. Close face less in downswing to the ball 4. Close face less through impact 5. Get handle more forward at impact 6. Weaken grip By close face less that would be less arm rotation mainly (lead arm supination and trail arm pronation)
Haven't tried this yet but considering I could early extend a chip, pitch, full swing, half swing - heck I'd early extend a putter if it was possible - this video and drill could be a game changer!
I think this problem can also stem from a lot of people hitting it fat. I used to slice and come too steep so the idea of coming down lower used to scare me. But then I built a habit of staying too tall and extending. Gonna try this out!
Great video lesson Eric, but one thing you didn’t mention is that by lowering your chest, you effectively move it slightly more over the ball. That creates a weight shift to the toes. If your weight goes to your toes you will instinctively stand up on it (early extension) to counter the out of balance position. The correction is that the hips must move back slightly to remain in balance. With the weight on the toes, it is difficult to turn through the shot. Heavy people really struggle with this because most of their weight is above the hips. I especially struggle with it. The drill is excellent because it can help to work on balance as you perform it.
I added 8 yards to my mid irons and 5 yards to short irons on this tip. The dispersion is much tighter as well. If only I could get my trajectery down. At 63 I am hitting the ball within 5 yards of when I was in my mid 30s.
Glad this one has helped your game, Dan! Send us your swings into www.cogornogolf.com and we can build a plan to fix up that trajectory👊 Hope to see you there!
TOP NOTCH vid as always eric, I'm always directing people to your videos! My #1 question is same thing applies w driver because my first thought is gonna be worried about low hooks or low push blocks?
Eric, great drill and I'm sure this answer is on your videos but my question is, in your "minds eye" where is the swing and movements going AFTER impact. I feel like I get a good strike but when I'm not flipping and throwing my arms at the ball, it seems I stall after impact. Is it the pushing of the lead leg that get's you through, up and around with your arms turning over naturally?
Hey David.....unfortunately there is a lot there that could be discussed....not sure I can give you a great answer here that simultaneously is "simple" but also specific enough for you without seeing your swing on video and your current issues
With the arm bent and right wrist bent, how do I close the clubface? Won't ball fly directly right off the face? Do I need to incorporate a "flattening" of the left wrist?
Hi Eric-- Maybe you can help me? When I set up over and cover the ball with the split grip you mention -that works But when then I bring my hands together and try to hit the ball from that same address position, I find myself way too close to the ball to attempt to hit the ball. I can only hit the ball with a normal grip in the bent over position (arms and shoulder closer) if the ball is a few inches further away from me. Either I move my address position back a few inches from my address position (with a split grip) or move the ball away more because if I do not do either, I can not hit the ball with a normal grip because i am way too close to the ball. Hope I am not confusing you.
Simplest ways to think this is = the higher the setup... the easier it is to lower at impact.... so MANY are setup soooo low that they have no way but up at impact.... simplicity in golf is the key .... understand the reaction to ur action .... = math ;))))
Depends on the player but most will be slightly higher with slightly more vertical shaft angle compared to setup Find a player you like and slow mo from down the line youll see
I don't think you need to do anything more than consciously being aware of it and finishing your swing Keep pushing your hips toward target and get the club behind your neck
Thanks for your feedback, Marty! Sorry if that was too complicated To simplify: 1. Start with split grip with club above ball 2. Learn to get down to ball

Single best drill I’ve ever tried. Never hit the ball this solid. Thanks Eric
Love it Brian!
I had been fighting this flaw for years and had given up, your explanation was so simple. Can't wait to try it out. Thanks in advance.

Agreed
Would you ever suggest hitting small shots with the split grip during the drill to get the feeling coming through impact?
You could!
Hi Eric from Australia. Would it be advisable to use split grip on the course ??. Not competition but say a solo practice round.
Hey Richard! I would likely just stick to practice.....on course COULD do with PRACTICE swings and then try and retain that feel for normal.
this is great. but i have to say its much harder to do in course. but i guess its mostly muscle memory from bad swings.. great video
For sure...takes time to transfer like anything
What equipment would we need to take the online classes?
Just some clubs and a way to film your swing my friend! We'd love to have you on the team!!

Hope it helps Scott!
With the arm bent and right wrist bent, how do I close the clubface? Won't ball fly directly right off the face? Do I need to incorporate a "flattening" of the left wrist?
Hey!
The club face is closed via trail arm supination, lead wrist flexion, lead wrist ulnar deviation (unhinge), trail arm pronation
Excellent. On the course I like to feel like I’m “falling” in to out towards impact…
That works....have another good one on that coming up soon
in my video I took my lead leg does not straighten until well after impact. drills for get weight to left and straighten the leg?

Eric does this work with woods?
If you stand up too much then same feels yep.....head more back driver
Can this drill be applied to the driver downswing?
Hey Kevin....yep if you have the same issue of standing up
Does this apply for driver ?
Hey Andy....yes if you stand up too much will feel same things
I assume if you're struggling with a steep shaft in the downswing you want to fix that first - any tips on how to get rid of that?
Yes that correct
For sure...
Search my name and "shallow" you will see like 50 videos lol
@@CogornoGolf guess ill be binge-watching 50 videos 😂
Does this drill work for driver as well?
I have the same question

you shouldn't try and hit from this position above the ball....just use it to gain a FEEL
work with driver and FW WOODS?
If you have same issues yep
It's amazing how straight the ball goes when you totally commit to this swing.
For sure a bit part of it

Might wanna wear a helmet if you want to do that!
With proper shaft lean at impact, your hands have to be closer to the ground than they were at setup.
Depends on the player but most will be slightly higher with slightly more vertical shaft angle compared to setup
Find a player you like and slow mo from down the line youll see
The only problem I have when I stay down is I tend to not finish my swings. What do I need to do during follow-through?
I found your "follow through with Carolina" was very helpful with reaching your finish position from bent down.

Keep pushing your hips toward target and get the club behind your neck
