Ahoy everyone!
My name is Nike and I have been living and sailing on my sailboat Karl since 2013. After a massive refit marathon, I finally cast off the lines and learnt to solo sail my 37-foot Reinke Super 10 that I called "Karl". I am publishing videos (at the moment every two weeks) about the ups and downs of living, repairing and sailing my boat.
Since January 2022, I have a new permanent crew member: my furry friend Boga. When I started out, I did not know much about boat repair or solo sailing. Since I am still out there, I hope that my story inspires others, to chase their dreams, even if they might think they are not cut out for it. There is always a way, so I'll see you out there!

I didn't get a tattoo till I was 40.. I now have two.. and like you has meaning.. but twice around the world and 38 countries.. Anyone that's travelled that much knows that inspirational countries such as New Zealand, Thailand, South America etc pull your mind to places where in some way you change.. and a symbol of that change seems fitting somehow on our bodies.

In the 1960s while in the navy in a far away corner of the world, a shipmate got a tattoo of our ships emblem/badge on his arm with a misspelled word, he was the only one who failed to see the humor...
I've been anticipating this move for years, but I always thought it would be Karl's sail emblem.

I could see his fingers had the letters "ARTS" tattooed on them, but I was hoping his thumb had an "F" tattooed on it, but I couldn't see.

a long time ago I knew a bloke that did tattoos with a sharp on the end of a stick which must have been 10 inches long the vibration kept the sharp moving (just to say )Psi think you are fantastic at the production of videos you should start a you tube blog I feel sure lots of people would really enjoy them
Nike, I've watched you from close to the beginning and I am forever amazed at the wonderful collection of people that you meet. I spent a lot of time in Panama during my working life so I can relate to a lot of the places that you explored while you were there. I was surprised that you didn't spend so much time with the Cuna Indians. The San Blas was one of my most favorite places to go . Spending time diving and relaxing in the San Blas was my most favorite. The Cuna are a beautiful people.
☺️ I spent probably some 5-6 months there in total. Came back there many many times and absolutely loved it. It has a special place in my heart

How many nautical miles have you traveled with Karl? Are you gonna get a swallow tatt for 5000 nm?
Good question…would have to calculate a bit for that. I had about 2k before I got Karl…and as far as I know it’s not just the ones u travel on ur own boat. I am probably somewhere >10k in total but would have to check

I guess u have missed all the time that I already had a tattoo before 😂. To me it is a visual reminder of the inner work I have been doing this past year and also a visual guidance of putting my inner values into action.
