Learn how to design a modern interpretation of traditional Hawaiian quilts. Sheri Cifaldi-Morrill of Whole Circle Studio demonstrates how to design your own block using folded paper. We’ll then explore how to prepare fabric for applique, transfer your design to the fabric and cut your motif. Sheri also shows samples of her completed Hawaiian inspired quilts.

I recently broke my right foot and ankle and am stuck at home in a cast . I have conquered the double wedding ring, made tons of gifts , and now playing with Hawaiian quilting (,which I’d never done before as well). So glad I found your video because I particularly enjoy a modern look to quilts . Thank you for sharing. !

    Hi Sheri,
Beautiful quilt! Did you fuse the design to the background fabric? And if so, what stitch did you put around it to secure the design to the background fabric so you'd be able to wash the quilt? thanks, Amy

Hi Amy, Thank you! I prefer to thread baste (1/4" from the raw edge) and then needle turn applique. However, you could applique with whatever technique you're most comfortable with. Thanks for watching and commenting!

Your patterns is DEFINITELY NOT HAWAIIAN QUILT PATTERNS, So stop sharing this video because it is not the true way our patterns are, You made it your own and you calling it Hawaiian patterns, What a disgrace and is very disrespectful to our Native Hawaiian people in Hawaii, Please do your research more thoroughly because you are re-creating something that is not of our culture. How rude!!!

Thank you for your comment. I am careful to title and mention in the video that what I’m showcasing is Hawaiian-Inspired and by no means is a traditional Hawaiian pattern or technique.
