The unpainted door handles means they’ve been replaced before. All GS, GS-T, and GSX models came with painted mirrors and door handles. If you don’t care that’s all that matters because it’s your car and you’re lucky to have the car in general, but just thought you should know as every dsm owner knows they’re prone to breaking lol.
Anyone who has really owned a gen 2 has broken and replaced the handles before. It's 100% gonna break at some point. Most true dsm bros will have a couple ready to go at the house or in the glove lol

I had a silver 97 GSX that looked just like this. Mine had grey interior and the factory Infinity audio system with the amp underneath the passenger seat. I miss that car so much. Ive been looking for another one for years. They’re becoming increasingly hard to find in stock or even near-stock form. So much fun to drive.

Nice pickup, hopefully more people appreciate these cars! Biggest advice I’ve heard and that’s constantly being given is maintenance. It’ll save you in the long run. Also if you decide to mod it, try not to ruin it lol

Jesse Scheel yeah I get your predicament. I agree that the average viewer might not want to watch you keep it stock but then again, you might get some traffic from dsm owners. There’s a few dsm channels out there but they definitely aren’t as big as they should be imo. You could freshen it up and sit on it for a bit because like you said the prices did creep up a but this year and wait for a cheap, moderately modded one. My car was $1k and completely modified when I got it from a junkyard so I didn’t feel bad making it my own. If I were to find a completely stock one, I’d do probably do reversible mods in case I decided to sell it down the road.

This is my dream car, i hope to own one, i understand that it’s a car just over 2 decades old and is susceptible to issues such as rust, and crank walk, and DSM didn’t build them very well quality wise so it’s fragile, even so it looks sleek and fierce, and the engine for the gs-t and gsx is tried and true
Its a great car! I dont necessarily think it was built poorly. I think the people that got their hands on them were built poorly and it transferred over to the way they modified the cars. Stock I think it would run forever. If you upgrade it just has to be done right without corners cut. Owners of these cars are habitual corner cutters. This the one that sold for 2999 and got flipped for 8k not bad. you should bring it to del taco meet on Tuesdays a couple of us dsm guys go there its in Goodyear I think.
Let me know if you need any guidance on the do's and don'ts with the DSM. They're great cars, so long as you follow some general key things. My 1G is somewhere north of 700whp, and has an affinity to break driveline parts. It's getting an auto this winter. Keep it conservative if you DO decide to mod it. You'll be surprised how much fun a simple 450whp pump gas DSM can be.
Conservative is the route I am going for sure. If you check out my latest video on the plan for the care I will definitely be staying right at maybe a little above or below 400.
I ended up paying 7k for my GSX, 86k miles and one owner. And even then I thought that was too much but how often do you see these things?? Keep the content coming!
Sounds like you got a screaming deal! Now a days I think its a buyers market on the GSX. Whatever someone is willing to pay is the price. They are just so scarce.
I just barely bought a eclipse 3 weeks ago for $4500, Gst 1999 ,everything is stock and has a turbo, seller also told me its been sitting in the garage for 12 years and has under 1000 miles 🤩 and also no rust to mention
I also Just Thought you might want to know that with your car being a 99, it has the all white gauge cluster WITH the boost gauge and oil pressure gauge being a GSX. You might not know this but that is SUPER RARE, along with your already rare full black interior. I don't think you realize how rare your car is today lol. its a wonder you found it like this.

I'm not really trying to tell you to keep it stock as it is your car and you should enjoy it the way you want :) i would maybe just do some good tasteful mods to make it a little more fun. Keep the stock parts incase you want to put it back to stock also. Try not to change anything that's unreversable. But at the end of the day it's your car and you should enjoy it!
Nice find! Turbo cars are fun and that 4G motor you have is a beast! That cast iron block can hold so much power. I'd change all the fluids, spark plugs, bushings, etc and get familiar with the car, then start modding. I wonder if that's the original turbo? Sounds like it has a blow-off valve too, not sure if they came stock like that. But yeah.. you can make these cars crazy fast! The body already looks good, get some nice coilovers, wheels, tint, HID's, front lip, front mount intercooler, and it would look so much meaner. I see that you mentioned that the gears were long, you would want long gears because of the turbo. I use to have a turbo Integra with LS gears, they're long gears, and it was a blast to drive that car. I'm curious though, why do you shift so late? Like why you shift around 4k RPM? I've always shift around 3k RPM, even in my Z.
The blow off valve is stock and so is the turbo. The valve has the Mitsubishi logo right on it. I love where your head is at with the maintenance first. 🙂👍 That is what I will do. Moving forward I like what your advising as well! I wait to shift in the video so I can get the blow off valve to go off. When I am just cruising I shift prior to 3k rpm. 🙂

Yeah that maintenance stuff saves so much money in the long run, you can't mod a car and not take care of it, doesn't make sense. Oh ok, so when does the turbo actually spool? My old Integra the turbo spooled literally at 3k RPM, anything after that is straight boost. Lol.
@@bman409 3k rpm she starts making good power! Really falls off after 4500 or so though. Not sure if that's normal or there is an issue but I will be updating on it as I go!

Fix the kinks and dents, and then paint it and then ceramic coat it. Try to keep it stock, do minor mods if you are going to , so minor i mean ic, cai, intercooler piping, ce. Don't open it up unless you have crank walk; and then youll want to go ahead and do piston and connecting rods. You can have a lot of fun with this with just a few minor things; you don't need 600whp if you know what i mean. These cars have gone up in value, and as a former 99 mitsubishi eclipse gsx owner its become a pain for me to find one now that am older and have money. Keep it, its fun and its going to go up in value a lot.

F this pandemic! I have always wanted a DSM, specifically a 2G eclipse. Found a great deal on built, low mile 2G Talon TSi AWD and bought it a few weeks ago. Then i came a across a completely stock, unmodified convertible 1997 GST spyder and for fun put in a seriously lowball offer. Well. he accepted. I went from no DSMs to 2 DSMs in three weeks. i feel like hugh heffner.
There was one heavily modded in phoenix last week for $8900 with solid body on it. Just got to be glued to the classifieds and be ready to pounce the second one comes up. They don’t last for more than a day or two once listed.
I seen this on Facebook market place at a dealer for 3k, was gonna pick it up but the guy had it under gst so didn’t really want it then I saw later a guy bought it and it was a gsx
its a special car.... just bought my 1995 3000GT VR-4 with 11.5K for over 50K .....these are becoming rare...... like super rare ..... like Jupiter moon dust on earth ....
I had a ‘98 Eclipse RS in my early 20s and although it wasn’t fast it was still fun. I had a blitz body kit for it too but was too poor to have it put on 😂 I’d love to find a GSX in good condition nowadays. I love the original music from the original movie btw 👍🏽
Facebook marketplace. There's a long story behind it. Some dude actually ganked it from a dealer for $3k then turned around and listed it for $10k. I got it for $8k. Not super happy about the price. The seller would tell you that if you ever talked to him. But hindsight is 20/20 and I would do it again if presented the opportunity.

"8k USD for GSX is a ripoff" *cries in European* In Europe, if you want to find a good GS model you have to pay like 6000$ for it, some cars cost almost 10k$! If I could find a GSX for 8k$ I would be happy as hell! I think that in Europe is better to import the GSX from the USA, pay taxes and shipping + cost of changing the front and taillights to European and It would be much cheaper than buying GSX straight from the UE. Also, I think that the reason that Eclipses are so beaten up is that they were cheap to buy but costly to maintain and people just killed and scrapped them. PS. I love your videos and waiting for more content on the Eclipse :)
I think the more time that goes by the less people will look down on my decision. 2 years ago you could buy them for $3k here so to spend $8k on one that wasn't perfect was frowned on at first. Your guys Eclipse tailights are way sweeter than ours. 😊

Unfortunately the modern DSMer is cheap. Most of the people hating on "overpaying" for a dsm are the ones who can't afford to properly maintain and modify them. At the same time, these people are hurting the value of these cars. Fortunately, the overall value of clean examples of these cars are rising.
@@therealjessescheel you should look into putting a differential brace on the car. It's a weak spot. On my old gsx it'd literally twist when power went to it. Also the rear subframe bushings I can pretty much guarantee are shot on your car. Take a look at them sometime. I had mine replaced with solid aluminum.
@@therealjessescheel I got it almost exactly a year ago about 20 minutes from the bridge in Michigan. Has two small spots of rust hence the price but still a great car

Sorry. They are very hard to come by now. FB marketplace and FB groups are pry your best bet but you won’t get a deal on one.

I suppose its just personal preference. Personally I had to have the manual but to each their own. The autos are definitely cheaper!
The auto trans was always the stronger of the two.

I just barely bought a eclipse 3 weeks ago for $4500, Gst 1999 ,everything is stock and has a turbo, seller also told me its been sitting in the garage for 12 years and has under 1000 miles 🤩 and also no rust to mention
But it’s a GST....
With everything stock it was worth it
I also Just Thought you might want to know that with your car being a 99, it has the all white gauge cluster WITH the boost gauge and oil pressure gauge being a GSX. You might not know this but that is SUPER RARE, along with your already rare full black interior. I don't think you realize how rare your car is today lol. its a wonder you found it like this.
I am getting that more and more! I pry have to keep those seats in it then huh? I should pry just keep it stock and fix it up real nice. 😊

I'm not really trying to tell you to keep it stock as it is your car and you should enjoy it the way you want :) i would maybe just do some good tasteful mods to make it a little more fun. Keep the stock parts incase you want to put it back to stock also. Try not to change anything that's unreversable. But at the end of the day it's your car and you should enjoy it!
Nice find! Turbo cars are fun and that 4G motor you have is a beast! That cast iron block can hold so much power. I'd change all the fluids, spark plugs, bushings, etc and get familiar with the car, then start modding. I wonder if that's the original turbo? Sounds like it has a blow-off valve too, not sure if they came stock like that. But yeah.. you can make these cars crazy fast! The body already looks good, get some nice coilovers, wheels, tint, HID's, front lip, front mount intercooler, and it would look so much meaner.
I see that you mentioned that the gears were long, you would want long gears because of the turbo. I use to have a turbo Integra with LS gears, they're long gears, and it was a blast to drive that car.
I'm curious though, why do you shift so late? Like why you shift around 4k RPM? I've always shift around 3k RPM, even in my Z.
The blow off valve is stock and so is the turbo. The valve has the Mitsubishi logo right on it.

Moving forward I like what your advising as well! I wait to shift in the video so I can get the blow off valve to go off. When I am just cruising I shift prior to 3k rpm. 🙂

Yeah that maintenance stuff saves so much money in the long run, you can't mod a car and not take care of it, doesn't make sense.
Oh ok, so when does the turbo actually spool? My old Integra the turbo spooled literally at 3k RPM, anything after that is straight boost. Lol.
@@bman409 3k rpm she starts making good power! Really falls off after 4500 or so though. Not sure if that's normal or there is an issue but I will be updating on it as I go!
@@therealjessescheel Yeah, well that AWD would make up for it. Make sure you change that differential fluid too.

Sounds good! I got a date with the local DSM specialist October 4th to plan out what all to do with the engine and I will go from there. If we leave it stock I will for sure change it!

Fix the kinks and dents, and then paint it and then ceramic coat it. Try to keep it stock, do minor mods if you are going to , so minor i mean ic, cai, intercooler piping, ce. Don't open it up unless you have crank walk; and then youll want to go ahead and do piston and connecting rods. You can have a lot of fun with this with just a few minor things; you don't need 600whp if you know what i mean. These cars have gone up in value, and as a former 99 mitsubishi eclipse gsx owner its become a pain for me to find one now that am older and have money. Keep it, its fun and its going to go up in value a lot.

F this pandemic! I have always wanted a DSM, specifically a 2G eclipse. Found a great deal on built, low mile 2G Talon TSi AWD and bought it a few weeks ago. Then i came a across a completely stock, unmodified convertible 1997 GST spyder and for fun put in a seriously lowball offer. Well. he accepted. I went from no DSMs to 2 DSMs in three weeks. i feel like hugh heffner.

There was one heavily modded in phoenix last week for $8900 with solid body on it. Just got to be glued to the classifieds and be ready to pounce the second one comes up. They don’t last for more than a day or two once listed.
That is one of the most sought after optioned Eclipses. Everyone wants a 99 with black interior. Only year that all black was available.

That steering is vague on center 90’s steering normal. You are just used to better cars. It’s very common from a 90’s car to have that on center play

I had a ‘98 Eclipse RS in my early 20s and although it wasn’t fast it was still fun. I had a blitz body kit for it too but was too poor to have it put on 😂 I’d love to find a GSX in good condition nowadays. I love the original music from the original movie btw 👍🏽

Facebook marketplace. There's a long story behind it. Some dude actually ganked it from a dealer for $3k then turned around and listed it for $10k. I got it for $8k. Not super happy about the price. The seller would tell you that if you ever talked to him. But hindsight is 20/20 and I would do it again if presented the opportunity.

In Europe, if you want to find a good GS model you have to pay like 6000$ for it, some cars cost almost 10k$! If I could find a GSX for 8k$ I would be happy as hell! I think that in Europe is better to import the GSX from the USA, pay taxes and shipping + cost of changing the front and taillights to European and It would be much cheaper than buying GSX straight from the UE.
Also, I think that the reason that Eclipses are so beaten up is that they were cheap to buy but costly to maintain and people just killed and scrapped them.
PS. I love your videos and waiting for more content on the Eclipse :)
I think the more time that goes by the less people will look down on my decision. 2 years ago you could buy them for $3k here so to spend $8k on one that wasn't perfect was frowned on at first.

Unfortunately the modern DSMer is cheap. Most of the people hating on "overpaying" for a dsm are the ones who can't afford to properly maintain and modify them. At the same time, these people are hurting the value of these cars. Fortunately, the overall value of clean examples of these cars are rising.

@@therealjessescheel you should look into putting a differential brace on the car. It's a weak spot. On my old gsx it'd literally twist when power went to it. Also the rear subframe bushings I can pretty much guarantee are shot on your car. Take a look at them sometime. I had mine replaced with solid aluminum.
