    this was one of the only small sports cars in the 90s that looked better without a body kit or lip. It is absolutely perfect without anything.

      I think just a nice simple lip to give it a more race car look, but other than that you’re right. It doesn’t take anything but a set of suspension, some nicely fitted wheels and tires and you’re golden

    Love it! I truly miss my 1995 Mitsubishi Eclipse GST. I was one of the first few people's to do the 1g into 2g swap in the Florida area. I used a 1991 Gallant VR-4 6 bolt bottom with 95 Pistons fabricated to the larger 91 rods. ARP Connecting Bolts basically on everything + head studs. 2g head with HKS 272/272s and extra thick Mitsubishi head gaskets, RC Engineering 780s I believe injectors, Apexi front mount I/C, Greddy I/C pipes and Type-S BOV, ported manifold with Forced Forced Performance Green and Victory Performance O2 with a Tial 38mm waste gate. ACT 2600 street disk w/Fidanza 8lbs Billet flywheel, MSD Digital 2 Plus ignition system, along with all Greddy 60mm Boost, AFR, EGT, 52mm fuel and oil pressure, The old school Profect-B + T-T, DSM Link for engine management. Keep in mind it was back in 2002-2007 times. And it had a stock appearance on it. The only thing that gave the car away was the front mount, gauges, exhaust and a tag that said HIBOOST. Thanks for the great memories!
    Cheers,
    Scott

I was on break smoking a cigarette and she was leaving after her shift (back in 2003) and got into a clean 99’ black GSX with full catback Exhaust and intake and that car was amazing! • @Hartbreak1
    @Hartbreak1 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    I think the 4G was an honest attempt at reviving the Eclipse brand, but because it wasn't a 4 cylinder turbo car it was overlooked. The V6 in the 4G is a great engine and so it's the 6 gear tranny. Right now a lot of 4Gs get cannibalized just to get the engine and transmission for swaps.

  • @eddieschwab864
    @eddieschwab864 ปีที่แล้ว +12

    I don't think it was a failure from a JDM standpoint Because unless I'm mistaken it wasn't even part of the Japanese domestic Market because it was part of that whole DSM amalgamation, Diamond Star Motors the collaboration between Mitsubishi and Chrysler. Both the eclipse Eagle Talon and Plymouth Laser as well as the 3000GT and the stealth, well DSM was still a thing and Plymouth was still a brand I had repeatedly said that if they wanted to bring back the Barracuda that would have been the perfect opportunity and the perfect platform to do so. Even without a V8 between the front fenders it would be still a legit Contender with a twin turbo V6 assuming it had the same powertrain as the VR4 3000GT.

    About 20 years ago I had a 1992 Eagle Talon TSI. I have never seen another one like it. You don't see any Eagle Talon TSIs on the road nowadays. Probably been a good 10-15 years since I've seen one. Probably all wrapped around telephone polls by now. It was a total blast. Not only was the TSI a great car, I bought it from an older guy that did a lot of work to it. He had the turbo pushed to 15 PSI. He had vented rotors put on. Even the interior was the nicest I had ever seen in any Eagle Talon or Eclipse. It was really nice vented tan leather interior. It felt like it had 300 HP. I never tested it. Hard to do with AWD. But that thing was a rocket and I had no business having a car that fast at 19 years old. Well, I lived!

    I had a metallic blue 1990 GSX Turbo AWD (first-gen with the pop-up headlights). Frigging AWESOME car, beautiful inside and out, but it did have downsides. For one, the turbo lag was measured with a sundial and then when it came on it hit you like a sledgehammer in the back. For the other, the gearshift linkage on mine was AWFUL. Notchy, rubbery, synchros on second were shot inside of four years and I didn't drive it hard. It was a rocket, handled amazing, got good gas mileage, and was actually a fantastic snow car because the fluid-coupled AWD was so simple and bulletproof. Oh, and it had the stupid 1990s motorized shoulder belts instead of air bags. I kept it for four years 1991-95 but it started to have cascading problems and I got rid of it at about 70,000 miles and traded up to a 1996 Dodge Ram pickup, which I didn't have to fold my fat ass into unlike the tiny Eclipse. For all that, I have a lot of great memories from that car.

    When I saw the title I came here to argue (I bought my 97GSX in 98 and owned it for 6 years). Glad I watched it first, I agree 100 percent. Had they continued to develop this idea of the "Evo-ish" 2 door hatch instead of that "fish" 3g the dominance would have easily continued. Really dropped the ball by letting this formula go in the 3 and 4g

    the stock turbos are so tiny on those, I had one on my D16Z6 CRX. hooking up the waste gate line right before the throttle body allowed the turbo to maintain steady boost all the way to redline. turbo pressure drops after the intercooler so having the waste gate line on the turbo itself reduces how much boost gets to the intake manifold..

    The Dodge Avenger and Chrysler Sebring share the entire interior. Only difference is the Avenger/Sebring console had more of a 90° joint rather than the curve the Eclipse and Talon had. Even some exterior parts, the door shells are the same, but the glass was different.
    The 420a was also the used in the Avenger/Sebring, so a lot was plug and play across the 4 cars.
    Man, I miss my Avenger.

    Owner of 1997 Mitsubishi eclipse GSX, was purchased for $1500 in 2016 when I lived in SF.
    Car was sold for $2000, the buyer took it home with $1000 up front and later was going to give the seller another $1000, the owner held on to the Pink & told me the buyer was begging him to sell it for only $1000, the owner said no and to bring the GSX back immediately, I was the first one to call, the owner picks me up himself and drives me farther than Oakland where the car was located, I drove back to SF, & here we are 🤷.
    My cousin I was living with at the time in SF kicked me out about 2 weeks later, I lived in my GSX for 4 months trying to finish school while battling suicidal depression, I ended up dropping out and going back home, my mom also came down with severe depression, no one was there to take care of her and make sure she ate so I had to drop school, all the internships, everything and take care of her. Needless to say I would have been living in BART stations if it wasn't for my GSX. Might sound crazy to some but I made a promise to my eclipse, I said "one day you're gonna be a baaaaaad mother fucker for being there for me". And although the money ain't right yet, I plan on keeping my promise. Sometimes, a car means something completely different to other people...like me :)
    It gave me a place to live for months, I don't plan on ever letting go :)

    $22,000 current bid for a red 2gb at Bring A Trailer. I had one back in the early 2000s. Six bolt swapped and a 20g turbo, full support mods, tuned. Fun as hell. Looking to buy another one and will like end up shelling out 20k cash for one. Now that many of OGs are now over 40, the nostalgia hits hard. Whenever I see one, it’s like seeing an old friend. I just bought a 99 GST literally 4 days ago , the price was super cheap but the previous owner actually put a 2.4L bottom end with the 4G63 head on it, it has cool upgrades like a 20G turbo, HKS blow off valve, big front mount intercooler, 3in Apexi Exhaust, HKS turbo timer,big waste gate and bigger ported Exhaust manifold.. The car definitely needs a new paint job "badly" and due to a issue with the coil pack it's currently not getting spark but I'll be fixing it.. GSX and GST are both hard to find so it worth me saving..

    Had one! Miss it all the time! Hoping to get a New 23 GR-FOUR Corolla, got a feeling it will be another amazing AWD Turbo wip. Funny to hear something said about 2nd Gear 8:46, I could hit 72 mph in 2nd everyday and passengers in the car would say "did you hit 70 in 2nd gear?!?". Pre-weighted Clutch Master Stage 1 Clutch was the way to go on the Eclipse, squall the tires at 45mph by dropping down to 2nd and giving it 3500 revs. Kinda Jelly everytime I see someone else that has a running survivor.
