FAN-tastic video and incredibly helpful! Thank you for taking the time to prepare such a detailed video. I purchased a new F25LMHC motor from an on-line merchant just this past week, and it was delivered here 20-minutes after I watched this helpful video this very morning. It helped me to feel more secure about the external packaging, and whether the motor that was delivered, was in-fact previously unopened and brand new. And your pointers on new motor prep was just an added bonus! Thanks again. However, like you, mine did not include a fuel tank either, and yet most other unboxing videos showed a red plastic fuel tank enclosed along with the motor in the packaging, and that's a bit frustrating, since those tanks are $135+.

For everyone asking, the MSRP on this outboard is $3310.00. This is the basic model. No power trim, no electric start. You have to order directly from a Yamaha dealer and pick it up from them. You cannot just buy a Yamaha outboard online and have it get shipped to you.
My 9.9 Evinrude was indestructible. Underwater many times and if not running when would start like brand new. You could even just rotate flywheel by hand, no cord, and presto, it ran. Looking forward to a 4 cycle model someday.
I have the exact same motor except I have electric start. The way that it starts the only reason electric start is a bilge pump. My only complaint is that there’s no key so it would be very easy to steal, also power trim would be nice. Love my motor
Just got the F25SWHC, the electric start version! I am picking up the Tracker 1542 tomorrow! Thanks for the informative videos! I see you launched on C14, maybe see you out there one day!
Thanks for the vid. I put a down payment on the 20HP version of this, should be arriving in 4-5 weeks (hopefully). They were so hard to find, everyone is back ordered but I got lucky.
I used to have the 25hp Yamaha 4-stroke with power tilt in the early 2000’s ☀️the weight of the engine was 70kg! I’m guessing this one is a lot lighter
I have the same engine on my 11 ft whaler, but mine has electric start and throttle shifter. I run it in a plastic trash can...pees much better. Great engine!
The stream out of the weep hole is the same in the water as what’s in this video. One you increase rpm the stream pushes just as hard as any other outboard. Yamaha verified this is standard operation for the F25.
You're trying to compare a 2 stroke/kerosene fueled commercial outboard to my 4 stroke, portable outboard designed and marketed for personal watercraft? Apples to avocados, Sam Tate.
I’m surprised they allowed to purchase still in the crate and set up yourself. Here in Canada the dealer must service the engine by putting oil and fluids in it and start it before leaving the dealership or no warranty
No, the discharge is the same in the water. I unscrewed the hose that is on the outside of the motor and there is a lot of water flow. It just doesn't come out the weep hole that fast. The manual says that if the engine overheats it will automatically cut the ignition so you can't rev it. On top of that, I called Yamaha to make sure and they advised the flow is normal.
Just the clamps. The next boat will be getting the TH Marine hydraulic trim plate and I’ll bolt it down to that, but as for this boat the clamps are more than sufficient. I check them before I tow the boat and before launching and they rarely need to be tightened. If they do it’s an 1/8th of a turn. Barely anything.
As a new subscriber, I just found this. Great motor! Here’s a tip to keep it clean inside though... every few outings run some salt terminator through it when flushing. It leaves a coating behind that helps prevent corrosion on the inside.
james mcnaughton not unnecessary, I’ve seen the inner workings of more engines than I care to count. The stuff works and is not made by Yamaha. I use it in my own engines and will continue to. There are some gimmicks out there, that I can agree on but salt terminator is not one of them. Nor is ring free which is sold by Yamaha.
Yes it is absolutely unnecessary, I've been a commercial fisherman my whole life, I've seen outboard engines with 6,000 hours that have NEVER been flushed with those products nor have been flushed with even fresh water, not once, being kept on a mooring or a dock and not brought home and still ran fine until the day they were sold, but I guess you know more
james mcnaughton I’ve been a marine tech for over two decades so I think I am qualified. Just because it works doesn’t mean it can’t work better? I am not saying one has to use the product, I am simply recommending it. It would take many years for most folks to see a couple thousand hrs from an engine where a commercial boat is going to rack them up pretty quickly. I apologize if my being kind and offering my sound, educated, experienced, thoughtful advise to folks offended you. Take care, God bless!🙏
That’s a matter of opinion. Neither is better than the other. There are plenty of videos that talk about 2 stroke vs 4 stroke outboards. You should learn about their differences to determine which will work better for you, your boat, and what you plan on doing.
First tip I learned about Yamaha and Suzuki never run them with ears you got a 55 gallon drum bucket I know it's a pain in the ass but they're very temperamental the oil filter holds point 1 of a quart so even though there's no oil in the engine at all it's a brand new oil filter dad has never seen oil
Thanks for the heads up! So far I haven't had any issues with the ear muffs and the engine overheating or not getting enough water to the impeller. The stream coming out of the weep hole is the same with the muffs as it is when the engine is in the water. Its pressure also increases with throttle input with the muffs on, so I'm confident there's plenty of volume to supply the engine.
Kind of a random question about this motor. I'm wondering if it is to big for portability such as used on an inflatable, picking it up and putting it in the back of my suburban. What are you thoughts? Second question, how how long is the motor from bottom to tip of tiller folded up? Want to know if I could transport in the back of the Suburban. I would go to a dealer to measure myself but no one has any in stock. Thank you, great overview of this engine, best online.
I'd say it's too heavy for an inflatable. It's something like 127lbs. It's a pain to take it off and move it around. I can fit it in my volkswagen with the rear seats folded down. A suburban would have plenty of room. For an inflatable you'd probably want something like a 9.9hp. You'll go about 22mph and its very portable.
@@FloBassI really appreciate the info.I needed to hear from someone who owns an F25. I would of hated to buy one and regretted it. My inflatable is actually rated up to a 30hp (which is crazy), it's pretty big boat. I think I might go with a Tohatsu 20hp which is more manageable at 95 lbs. Thanks again!
I see. If you’re boat is rated for a 30, then you might want to go with that hp. Always use the biggest hammer to complete the work. But if you’re going to be removing it, a lighter motor is better, I think. All the weight is at the top and on the F25 the handles are below the power head and makes it difficult to carry without the motor wanting to pivot and flip while you’re carrying it.
hello, please tell me which oil in your opinion is better: Tohatsu Outboard 4-Stroke 10W-40 Oil vs MOTUL Outboard Tech 4T 10W-40? What is the oil in your engine?
This is an amazing video. We really need this type of real life information. How much fuel do you spend? Plus beginner question. These two outboards are similar in size and their propellers. Why their propellers are not twice the size?
By my estimate, I get around 10 miles to the gallon. What matters most about propellers is the pitch, not the overall diameter. You need more horsepower to spin a bigger propeller because the increased surface area causes more resistance in the water. So if the 25 had a propeller twice the size, it would be slower.
@@FloBass So if I wanted to pass entire Croatian coast top to bottom, both ways (1200 miles) with 5 meter rib I could spend easily 120 gallons. Plus the light summer wind and sea conditions.
Good afternoon! how much does such an engine cost in the United States? would you know if it is possible to export to Brazil and how much would be the dollar values? here this type of engine is very expensive 20 thousand reais
Great video. Can you explain how to use that switch under the gear shift. Im saving for a 15hp longshaft do you know if they are fitted to these, thanks.
The switch is for adjusting your idle speed up or down in 100 rpm increments to control how fast you troll when the motor is idling. The motor is very popular to be used as a kicker on larger boats. They use the smaller motor to troll so it doesn't increase the hours on their large motors, and it uses less fuel. I'm not 100% sure, but I don't believe the 15hp has the switch. I do know it comes on the 20, and 25hp models.
How is the vibration ? the tiller handle seems to be moving a lot.is it better in gear or worse and does the rpm button help smooth it out I’m thinking maby a merc 3 cylinder But I like the weight for this engine
The motor does not vibrate more than any other tiller outboard I've operated. You barely notice it at idle, and as soon as you increase rpm the little vibration goes away and its smooth.
Hi! I have a new/stored/never used before 2013 f9.9 which I will be running for its very first time and wanted to ask you, the port on top where the water hose connects to flush the engine, when do I do that? After bringing my boat back from the sea? Also, I’m confused if to buy the headset looking device or to run the engine on a bucket of water? Sorry for the noob questions, it’s my first outboard. Your boat is going to fly with that 25!
I don’t believe connecting a hose at the top is the correct way to flush the engine. I always flush the engine using the headset over the water intake ports at the bottom so the water pump impeller is lubricated with water and. Of ran dry. I would flush the motor after every use in salt water.
FloBass I found it, it’s called a flushing device and it’s a garden hose connector next to the choke knob. Maybe the newer engines like yours, don’t have it/need it. Anyways, it is used for “flushing the power unit after operation for the most thorough flushing”. But it’s “not to be done while the engine is running as the water pump may be damaged and severe damage can occur from over-heating”. I was just confused between the two procedures: running the engine with the headsets vs in a tank/bucket. The flushing with the water hose up top is an extra step and should never be done with the engine on.
For a fabulous boating trip, take 2-4 weeks and travel the great Trent/Severn waterway system in Ontario, Canada. Starting from Picton on the eastern end of Lake Ontario, you can go through numerous lakes rivers PLUS many locks (including the incredible Peterborough Lift Locks) all the way to Georgian Bay. Plenty of places to stop for supplies and fuel AND there are lakefront restaurants, motels, campgrounds, etc. I did the trip several years ago and it was amazing. One tip...avoid Just and early August because there CAN be long wait times at some of the locks. p.s. Go on You Tube an call up Big Chute, also part of the system.
Hello... nice motor... i have a question if u don't mind me asking, cause i got a 10ft zodiac, is it better if i put a long shaft or short shaft on it? Thank you. Is your 9.9hp long shaft or short one? Ty
You need to match the motor to what your boat manufacturer specifies. Typically if you have a 15” transom then you need a short shaft motor. If you have a 20” transom, then a long shaft.
Hey just a question. I got a old 25horse Evinrude that weighs less than 100lbs and a 2019 1436 alumacraft. Its Max recommended hp is 15 you think I'll be good as far as stock transom?
That was my tracker 1436 that cracked. The transom was plywood with an outer layer of aluminum. Very thin. I sandwiched the factory transom with another sheet of aluminum along with welding another sheet of aluminum to the floor. Then used a 2x4 block of aluminum as the brace from the floor to the transom. It wouldn’t flex even a millimeter with the 25hp after that.
The tachometer I had recorded hours, but it only lasted a week and no longer works. I’m not worried about hours. This motor is amazing. Now that I’ve had it for 5 months I’m used to it and want to go faster... lol
Does your Yamaha F25 have power trim? I am looking to get the same motor for a Lowe 1648 aura and the dealer closest to me says they don’t make a 25 long shaft (20in) tiller with power trim but they do with the 15in,... but they make a 20 hp (F20) with long shaft with power trim. Do you think power trim is worth having or not? Tia.
FloBass ok thanks. That’s what I was thinking. Is your F25 a short shaft (15in) tiller than? Like I said the dealer said they don’t make a 20in long shaft with power trim which is dumb.
Hey, I am looking for a powerful engine to put on my reinforced 3m tinny. I am debating whether to get this 25hp Yamaha or the Mercury 20hp efi. I want to be able to shaft sit/womp and spray. Thanks in advance
Foo bass how much does one cost roughly?? I have an older 35 hp Johnson 2 stroke that I run on my 1979 18’ flat bottom boat & it pushes that boat right around at about 20 or 25 miles an hour!!! Pretty fast if you ask me!!! The guy that gave it to me had a 95 hp six cylinder outboard motor on it!! I thought that was a little to big so that’s when I found the 35 I like it but it’s definitely no fuel injection which probably makes a big difference!!! Let me no what you think of your 25hp & if you think it’s enough motor for your 14’ johnboat??? Thanks I’ve been just wondering if it would be worth the upgrade or not!!
Its gonna fly. Most likely will need a prop with more pitch. You could also get a stainless prop with the same pitch, but more cup on each blade. That is what I originally wanted to do before I sold my boat with this engine.
@@bipedalhominid6815 The guy of this channel looks like having experience and not all the dealers offer the same, after- purchase service and guarantee, spare parts availability, etc. So a recommendation from him would come in handy for new buyers. @@jameswather8025 Good night James! Do you work with new 25 HP engines? and can you inform if it is possible to export to Brazil?
Great video. Can you explain how to use that switch under the gear shift. Im saving for a 15hp longshaft do you know if they are fitted to these, thanks.
The switch is for adjusting your idle speed up or down in 100 rpm increments to control how fast you troll when the motor is idling. The motor is very popular to be used as a kicker on larger boats. They use the smaller motor to troll so it doesn't increase the hours on their large motors, and it uses less fuel. I'm not 100% sure, but I don't believe the 15hp has the switch. I do know it comes on the 20, and 25hp models.
Thanks so much for replying.
Pretty cool vid. Are you selling your 9.9 if not already sold. If so which state are you located in?
9.9 is long gone.
so with the boat ,and trailer, and 25 hp Yamaha motor, what's the total price you have in it.
How is the vibration ? the tiller handle seems to be moving a lot.is it better in gear or worse and does the rpm button help smooth it out
I’m thinking maby a merc 3 cylinder
But I like the weight for this engine
The motor does not vibrate more than any other tiller outboard I've operated. You barely notice it at idle, and as soon as you increase rpm the little vibration goes away and its smooth.
Hello. I bought a similar model and it gives water out and next to the cooling indicator, there is a black square where gas comes out, is it ok?
Hi buddy Tell me how much in the USA to pay for such an engine
Where do you order your Yamaha outboard
You have to order it from a Yamaha dealer near you and go pick it up from them.
Sweet bro, I got the same engine too
Would love to see an on water review! Great vid. Thanks from Australia.
I posted a speed test about a week ago. Check it out!
How much the price t.y
Nice boat.
Hi ! My friend , how much for Yamaha 25 that ?
- this machine use power mot use gasoline?
Very good i hope i have it but i can aford to buy it
How heavy is your boat? I currently rock a 15hp Yamaha, but I’m looking at maxing out to the 25hp since it’s only heavier by 15lbs or so. 🤔
According to trackers website the 1436 is 162 pounds. Mines a little heavier with the fabricated transom since the original was cracked.
.I need to know the cost or the price of that outboard motor 25hp short shaft 2 strokes or 4strokes yamaha. I need help somebody. Thank you
For a fabulous boating trip, take 2-4 weeks and travel the great Trent/Severn waterway system in Ontario, Canada.
Sounds awesome!
Hello... nice motor... i have a question if u don't mind me asking, cause i got a 10ft zodiac, is it better if i put a long shaft or short shaft on it? Thank you.
Is your 9.9hp long shaft or short one? Ty
You need to match the motor to what your boat manufacturer specifies. Typically if you have a 15” transom then you need a short shaft motor. If you have a 20” transom, then a long shaft.
@@FloBass my boat is only up to 10hp.. which one is better for me then long shaft or short? Ty
@@FloBass my boat is only 10ft and up to ten horse power
@@FloBass now my question is should i use a short or long shaft? Thanks
@@FloBass and how would u know if u need long or short shaft on your boat?
I've got a 115 yamaha 4 stroke ill give you.
Hello peace be upon you where is this exhibition place
Nice video I love Yamaha motors
Don't have or ever owned a boat. But enjoyed the video. Thanks
How does it sit in the water? I am considering this engine on my 14ft polarkraft. Just concerned it may be too back heavy.
It really doesn't sit any lower than when I had my 9.9 on the back. The 25hp is 115lbs and the 9.9 was 89lbs.
FloBass my 9.9 is like 60 something but mine is old yours probably had newer and heavier stuff
Just realized that’s a 4 stroke mine is 2 stroke that is some weight off mine
Nice video, have two F20 myself.
Hey just a question. I got a old 25horse Evinrude that weighs less than 100lbs and a 2019 1436 alumacraft. Its Max recommended hp is 15 you think I'll be good as far as stock transom?
Your transom will eventually crack if you trailer it. Mine did with only a 9.9
That sucks, pretty poor quality from alumacraft. How would you recommend reinforcing it
That was my tracker 1436 that cracked.
You can sort of see it in this video
Oh ok I just noticed that. Yea my alumacraft Jon transom is about twice the thickness of the trackers
Well done
You should do an in the water review soon gr8 video👍
Hopefully tomorrow.
FloBass and I’ll watch it

Hey buddy, just ordered one yesterday for my J14. How are you liking it and did you put an hour meter on yours?
The tachometer I had recorded hours, but it only lasted a week and no longer works. I’m not worried about hours. This motor is amazing. Now that I’ve had it for 5 months I’m used to it and want to go faster... lol
Hell yea! I’m hoping that it’ll still move with 4 people on a J14
Yeah it will. I did about 25mph with me, two anglers and my 26 gallon live well full.
Nice!
Forgot to ask you, did you change your prop to handle a heavier load and if so what did you use? Thanks buddy

Tia.
Definitely get one with power trim. I regret not spending the extra money to get it.
I had a German metal smithing teacher in high school tell me once, “Always use the biggest hammer to complete the work.”
Haha, awesome, love it!!! Will be using that a bit! Is the Yamaha heavy to turn?
Just put mine on. Heaviest 120 pounds I've ever lifted
Yeah its super awkward to lift. Handles need to be put in a different spot
I wanted to go my F25 Yamaha outboard weigh out I pertty sure it's a lot heavier than they've said it was
Lindo motor Yamaha! !
parabens lindo motor e muito potente tambem.
Did you use mounting bolts? Is the bolt location the same for the 9.9 and 25?
No mounting bolts. It's a portable motor, so it uses the clamps.
Как так на 25ке и ручки струбцин пластмасовые??
A new 25hp 4 stroke runs anywhere from 2800 - 4000 depending on brand and options.
How is your motor going now? I need to buy one this year.
Still going strong. I actually have a one year review video coming up when I get a chance to edit it.
Hell yea brotha.
Beautiful engine how much she cost ya?
A few hundred less than msrp.
@@FloBass oof. I got quoted exactly 3k for one from our local dealer

Its gonna fly. Most likely will need a prop with more pitch. You could also get a stainless prop with the same pitch, but more cup on each blade. That is what I originally wanted to do before I sold my boat with this engine.
Good day how much was the new engine and where did you order it if you have a promo discount
I haggled with local Yamaha dealers and got this a few hundred off msrp. No promo code, unfortunately.
did you have your transom reinforced or is that how it came ? i have a 1436 tracker with a mercury 15hp four stroke transom seems to flex a little bit
My transom cracked with the 9.9 so I had it repaired to where it no longer flexes.

Hi, good for you! Great engine. Where did you buy it? Cheers
Purchased it from a local Yamaha dealer.
@@FloBass Nooo, may be you brought a the front gate of the factory!.. Can't you just say the name of the dealer?...
@@LPadillaCR lol what's the point of him saying exactly which dealer
@@bipedalhominid6815 The guy of this channel looks like having experience and not all the dealers offer the same, after- purchase service and guarantee, spare parts availability, etc. So a recommendation from him would come in handy for new buyers.
