Thirteen Reasons Why. It was so lame, the reasons were stupid, the characters weren't likable, the reason Clay was on the list was a total cop out, all the secondary characters all blended together because none of them got any characterization...i could go on
Catsandcamera it was the first ever audiobook I listened to, when i was like 13 (and the last but ya know) I actually really liked it, but I'm pretty sure that's because I was 13 and didn't really get what were good books & bad books
Catsandcamera I know right. I have depression and she was a dumb bitch that played victim all the time. It's okay to feel like shit but blaming other people that are "mean" to you is ridiculous.
Beth -182 I agree with you 1000% ! I hated that book! the main character was a winy little brat that I thought was just stuck up and evil. she blamed all these people for her own death which was HER decision and just a wimp. I just couldn't with this book
rian nodland IKR. The worst part is when the book thinks that Mr. Porter is in the wrong because he didn't pick up on the "hints" that Hannah wanted to kill herself *WHEN SHE COULD HAVE JUST TOLD HIM THAT SHE WANTED TO KILL HERSELF LIKE YOU SHOULD DO IN REAL LIFE.*
Fascist Whale As a person who has been suicidal and depressed many times, you can't just *tell* someone you want to die. I know it sounds stupid, but that's how it is. I can understand disliking the book, I just wanted to throw that out there.
The young adult genre seems so monotonous. If you've read one, you're pretty much read them all. I don't understand why the lot of them are so popular, but then again my preferred genre to read, historical fiction, tends to be quite a bit more serious (and provides a lot more diversity and complexity in structure).
The Mad Hattress-I know what you mean. I LOVE stories that include elements of history in them, and a bit of fantasy. Like the Iron Druid Chronicles. I adore that series, mostly cause it's like PJ but with a deeper mythological aspect and it's has more adult themes.
Niama L Well I'll tell you there has only been one YA book series I've really enjoyed -- that being the Beautiful Creatures series. If you're a fan of the Harry Potter or Twilight franchises, then you might look into it. However, the very last YA novel I read a couple of months back, I really only skimmed the last 20 or 30 pages (after becoming quite bored with the novel as I read along). The characters were so bland and the story wasn't that great. The pacing was way too quick and quite frankly, the way the characters and story was written, the author didn't make me care about any of it very much (This book was Girls of Hysteria Hall, if you're interested), but I guess this goes back to my original point. I don't find the genre to be all that enjoyable because there really isn't anything going for it, in my opinion. I have recently gotten a sort of twisted Alice in Wonderland spin-off that is YA and I am interested in reading that, but for the most part, I just can't get into the genre as a whole.
Kaya Rose I couldn't even finish TFIOS it was so boring and I disliked the characters. Then I watched the movie to Paper Towns and the characters were so annoying I don't understand why everyone loves his books so much. Though I have to admit that I like him as a person
Kaya Rose his books are fine but I hate Paper Towns so much and I think that it is so cheesy and boring. But I like An abundance of Kathryns. It's not the best book I've ever read but I don't think it's as bad as paper towns.
Kaya Rose I loved it, it was so realistic for people with cancer, I have first hand experience with that type of thing, and he captures whats going through your head so evidently and precisely. I really, really loved and enjoyed it. But I respect your opinion of course
I read Paper Towns but didn't enjoy it either. I remember reading it in anticipation of the movie but then after reading it, I didn't even bother to look at the movie.
a few years after reading literally any john green book, you'll realise ALL his books are the same but the people have different names, including the comic relief characters.
I loved the selection TRILOGY. Though when Kiera made two more novels on America's daughter I was done. She is such a brat. I will say she does change as a character more in the second book.
Ava JOJO Evelyn was such a bitch. I used to love her at first, but looking back, I can’t help but wonder why I liked her. America, I could stand but Evelyn was so spoiled and so hard to relate to
I really like hate/dislike videos. I think it's great to get that perspective as it gives a far more rounded idea of your taste and preferences. It's easier to align if I will enjoy book A recommendation from you if I know you also disliked book B. Also helps that I don't disagree with any books you included on this list!
I agreed with so many of these! Cassandra Clare definite recycles characters and John Green is so repetitive. Also Teardrop. Probably the worst book I've read OF ALL TIME and for some reason I read the sequel and that managed to be even worse! Loved this video! Oh my gosh, negative opinion videos give me life.
Heart Full of Books oh my gosh yes. I remember reading the second, and thinking that the main guy - whatever his name was - was completely irrelevant to the story. Like, she could have done the whole book without the boring ass "love triangle" and just saved herself some time.
john green is so repetitive and i see why a bunch of people dislike him, but I enjoy the actual writing and the way he words things. but fr he needs new ideas goddamn.
It was kind of stupid to buy books in the series after hating the previous books too. I hope you respect my opinion as rude as it may be. No offense, though I know it's offensive. LOL.
Agreed, why would you try reading a book after you've hated the first one? Idc if it's got good reviews if the first one was shit the rest probably are too.
Jasmine Stanley Maybe it's just me, there is one book in particular that actually had this character I love in it but I despise the series beyond belief, and there are a few other books I don't like but there are a few good characters
Plenty of reasons! Sometimes they're are good reviews about the next book. For example A Court of Thorns and Roses. I HATED the first book and yet i had friends (who have reviews I trust) who begged me to read it. So I did and it became one of my all time favourite books. If you've watched my other videos I'm pretty much known for buying pretty books. A Thousand Pieces of You has some of the most STUNNING covers ever. I buy them for aesthetic purposes and although some of you might say that's stupid, it's my money and my choice. Lastly, although I HATE some of the series I buy the other books in the series because my cousin, mum, brother and family friends read. Some of them like these books and since I still love at home, we all share the library. Anyway, stupid I may be but eh, I'm happy to own every single book I do, regardless if I hate it or not. I'm pretty sure every one gets there own opinion after my video haha! Have a good day! :)
I agree with you so much on The Selection series! WHY did it have to continue?! WHY? and YES to John Green! It was so funny when you said you liked Looking For Alaska but not much else. That is my favorite book by him and pretty much the only one I like and still own. I donated all the other ones. I did like Paper Towns, but not enough to reread.
I actually really didn't like Looking For Alaska. The main characters were bland, and I could only remember one character's name. It just felt boring and unexciting
Chances of my book being on here as an indie author that has had a total of about 4 people read his books? Slim to none. Did I watch the whole thing just in case anyway? You're damn right I did!
I tried reading looking for alaska but I just couldn't, I didn't like the characters and I found the story line boring. It was the first John Green book I've tried to read and the only one actually. Maybe I should give a try to another of his book, I don't know....
It's so weird that everyone says they love Looking for Alaska and hate An Abundance of Katherine's but for me it's the opposite. I hated Looking For Alaska and enjoyed An Abundance of Katherine's.
M.O.J I accidently disliked your comment omg so sorry HAHAHA! I wanted to say that I did finish reading An Abundance of Katherines and I didn't dislike it but it wasn't captivating! I'm glad to see that there are actually readers who like this book! I want all books to be loved hahaha :D
I feel like a lot of the critic that John Green gets isn't really warranted. It's the cool new thing to hate John Green. Like yes, a lot of his characters are similar, but if we're going to be real so are most of the characters in the books that booktubers RAVE about (I'm looking at you, Sarah J. Mass). But if you watch vlogbrothers (which is an amazing channel) you know John cares so much about his work, and isn't just continually pumping out crap to stay relevant and milk as much money out of one success as he can (I'm looking at you JK Rowling). I feel like he writes for himself more than anything. He's a great guy, and his work isn't as God awful as people try to make it seem. Amazing or groundbreaking? No. But not garbage.
Thank you so much for mentioning Lady Midnight. I really feel that Cassandra Clare did not put very much effort at all into writing that book. I am three hundred pages in, and the plot has barely moved an inch. She also mentions characters from The Mortal Instruments entirely too much. There might as well be three hundred pages and, in bold black letters, words saying "Read The Mortal Instruments!!!"
I thought Fallen sucked! So much so I didn't even finish the book, it had a rediculous love story with my three most hated troupes: Love triangle, mysterious brooding male lead and the lost princess type character that has memory loss and doesn't know how special she is; extremely predictable plotline with a boring main character and extremely uninterestinng love interests! I hope the movie proves better than the book
I had to read it for book club and it has reached a point where everyone who was reading it just talked about how much we hated it every time we had to say anything about it
So the things is that the first two books are actually super boring but the 3th en 4th book are so so so good! The story just changes and Luce just starts to understand things and yeah her characters just gets better haha
i loved Our Chemical Hearts. the book gave me mixed emotions. i just finished the book and i'm crying my ass off rn. i don't know what to feel, what to say. i feel so sappy after reading the book omg
Girl. When you pulled out ACOTAR I was like "nooooo." That's my new holy grail series. I'm so in love with both of them. Yes, the second was waaaay better and I can't wait for the third.
I hate The Fault In Our Stars and Gone Girl so much, it's not even possible. TFIOS was just horrible characters, unbelievable plot, I mean the characters had nothing to their personality besides for their disease &a they bonded over literature when the most he'd read was a book on his favourite video game. And Gone Girl, though I liked the story (saw the movie) it was the worst writing I had ever read in my life.
I think the Gone Girl movie was better. I read the book and HOLY HELL it was so slow. If it weren't for the plot twist, I never would have finished it.
Tara Taillon I personally think that gone girl was so slow but in a way I believe that's the point. I mean, many thrillers are generally slow in my opinion but that's the point. It's meant to build suspense but I do think the economic background was unnecessary bc that was definitely boring. I'm not sure if I love her writing style because I don't like first person narratives and I can't really get a grasp on her style yet but I think she's a brilliant author because her ability to bend narration is flawless. The ellipses that she used to make nick look suspect, her ability to utilize time is fantastic and rereading it a second time I was so amazed at the use of multiple choice questions in Amy's diary that's so telling of her character it amazed me. I totally understand why people would not like it and I think that if I were basing a rating on the plot alone it would be a three but because I think as a writer, Flynn is just amazing it's just a solid four.
With Lady Midnight I loved the relationships between the characters, but I hated the plot line. It felt to me that things just fell into the characters laps so that the plot would move on. For dragon books I recommend the Dragonriders of Pern by Anne McCaffery. They might start off a little bit slow but if you give them a change they get much better.
I think it's important we talk about the books we didn't like along with the ones we loved. Some of the books you mentioned I really enjoyed but I respect that and I'm glad you spoke up about this! :)
I've never read any of kristelle reads other work, so I didn't recognize any of the names and didn't know what to expect, probably just a book I've heard of but never read and I don't know much about it. However, when you picked up soundless I was so surprised because I didn't know other people knew about it and I liked it. It was really enjoyable for me. Maybe it's because I didn't read her other books, so I didn't have much to enjoy it too, but it was really fun to read. I'm surprised but always happy for more opinions.
I love this video! So many similar opinions! I hate The Selection series and literally skimmed the last two books. I read the first chapter of A Court of Thorns and Roses and then put it down blaming it on the fact that I may have picked it up at the wrong time (to be fair, I might've) Cassandra Clare should stop milking her series so much. The Mortal Instruments was brutal and should have just stuck to being a trilogy. I bought and put off Lady Midnight for that very reason. I'm not going anywhere near An Abundance of Katherines. Ive never heard on anyone liking that book. And A Thousand PIeces of You had such a cool premise byt that actual storyline and execution feel apart. lol @Teardrop Also, Tilly, I would love it if you checked out my original NOPE. book tag. It was designed for this!!
I love finding someone with similar opinions! i LOVE EVERYTHING YOU HAVE SAID. EVERYTHING. I'm watching your tag now and I'm agreeing with you on everything so far haha
I completely agree with you on The abundance, but when you said Will Grayson, Will Grayson, my heart stopped! It remains one of my favorite book to this day.
I usually enjoy most books that i read tbh. However, one that i didn't like much at all was "you're the kind of girl I write songs about". The characters were pretty boring, there was insta love and they skipped over things that were on a more serious note
OMG I just burst into silent cheering when you held up Lady Midnight xD I hated this book SO much. I am not a huge Cassandra Clare Fan to begin with but enjoyed her TID series so I gave this another shot... Wow was it bad... I actually felt really offened to be supposed to like something so bad.
i hated winger with a passion. mc character was annoying, female characters were underdeveloped, (spoiler) the bury your gays trope was used and was a plot device. big no for me.
The Crown defiantly gets better in my opinion. I found that the story in The Heir was incredibly boring and Evelyn's personality made me so frustrated. But there is some great character and plot development in The Crown. If you find yourself wanting to persevere, I highly suggest reading it. :)
I totally agree about ACOTAR. ACOMAF is one of my favorite books ever now, and probably one of Sarah J. Maas's best. But TBH, 90% of ACOTAR either bored me or irritated me and I felt like it needed much more action & world-building instead of a bland romance. But ACOMAF is definitely one of the best books I have ever read
omg i hated a court of thorns and roses in the depths of my soul. my sister read it before me and actually liked it! The romance was the most pointless thing and the main character couldve been great but just ended up being awful. for some reason everyone seems to like it tho, so its nice to hear another person who wasn't a fan.
I loooved this video and how open you were! Definitely agree about the John Green books. Looking for Alaska was great but I literally read a page and a half of An Abundance of Katherines and I was like...enough with the witty quirky language I can't read this. And what you said about Cassandra Clare's characters is kind of true. There are a lot of differences but sometimes they do seem the same. Haven't read Soundless but I never finished Bloodlines because I got bored. There was never really an ongoing plot, just random stuff each book and the best part was exposing the alchemists or whatever they were called.
YESSSS! I'm really hoping that her characters will stand out more in the next book. Bloodlines was just, ugh. I really enjoyed the first books and then they just went downhill until I disliked them. You're so right!
Although I don't agree with all of your choices, I understand your reasoning. As well as everyone likes different things, experiences things differently and just has different preferences when it comes to reading. So I applaud you for putting your thoughts and feelings out there even with the chance that you could be put down for speaking your opinion. Great job!!
I really hate Glass Sword by Victoria Aveyard. The first book in the series was passable but the the second one...I couldn't even finish it. I hated it so much.
Thank HEAVEN someone agrees with me. The only friends I have either don't read the same genre I do or they love the series and its just not good writing. In fact, its really BAD writing and the plot is so convoluted. it should have been written as a freaking movie script the way it was pitched to begin with. But even then I don't think I would go see the movie.
"that strange paranormal phase you go through before you discover the rest of the YA genre" is so accurate for me omg. and i especially agree w you on lady midnight haha
I couldn't stand Mrs. Peregrines Home For Peculiar Children. I bought the first book before it became a craze, and didn't find anything that interesting to it. Then when it blew up my school book club had us talk about it, and I got so much crap from them about not liking it as well as not liking John Greens The Fault In Our Stars.
My least favorite book is one that I gave up on the first chapter, which is "Waiting For You" by Susan Colosanti, which made me realize that while I LOVE Realistic Fiction, I hate books that classify themselves as "Contemporary Romance."
Everything by Cassandra Clare, except the coloring book maybe, 13 reasons why and harry potter and the cursed child. Looking for alaska. I swear I completely lost it when Alaska said she had a giant library and that she hasn't read any book because she has "too much sex to have and smoke". I couldn't take the characters seriously.
I don't know if i'm the only one, but most books I read, I like somehow? Like I don't know how to differentiate a good book and a bad book. For example, Thirteen Reasons Why, I read it recently and I didn't love it but I didn't have anything bad to say about it, while most people hated it. I'm basically just "meh" about most books, idk how to criticize.
im in the middle of reading our chemical hearts, and i 100% agree about it being stupid, but for me it was the writing and predictability that bothered me
I hated A Court of Thorns and Roses. I was so excited to read it, and then....one dimensional characters, weird plot, and the main character was deeply unpleasant.
I was waiting for you to say 'One thousand pieces of you' because that book was complete crap. Like the storyline wasn't believable enough, they used 'some dimensions develop slower/faster than others' as an excuse to put in time travel, there wasn't enough justification for everything, and I just didn't think it was well written. Marguerite generally didn't seem sad enough that her dad had died, she wasn't constantly sad, it was more like 'Marguerite texted her conveniently positioned friend on her conveniently positioned phone. Then she sat down and sighed as she remembered that her dad was dead. Then she got up and went clubbing.' The emotions weren't conveyed well and I just couldn't empathise with her at all. I still read the next book because I ain't no quitter, but the second one was actually even worse, and had a stupid ending.
SO I just watched this and saw your channel for the first time and subscribed. I think for the most part we have similar tastes. I didn't love ACOTAR but loved ACOMAF. When the next book was due to come out I decided to reread both of the books and kind of changed my mind on ACOTAR (not 100% change but it was better the second time through) I have read 2 of John Green's books and liked one, The Fault in Our Stars, and one I HATED so much I swore I would never read anything by him again and it was Paper Towns. What a waste of time that book was. I was also one of those people who did enjoy The Selection series BUT HATED the last 2...they simply didn't need to exist and I truly didn't care who she ended up with. You didn't finish the last book. You are not missing out at all. A recent book I just read I HATED was Living Dead Girl by Elizabeth Scott. It would have been ok if the author would have given us a true ending...I mean really this book leaves you like WTF....Can't wait to go see newer videos. If you haven't done a recent one of there types of videos I sure wish you would....it helps me decide what to stay away from :D
I LOVE THIS VIDEO. Tear into them. So many crappy YA books out there. (Dragon book - I just bought Temaraire by Naomi Novik. It's been on my radar -- recced to me before I discovered booktube. And now I saw Sam on Thoughts on tomes rec it too. Basically Napoleonic wars feat Dragons. I loved Uprooted, so I'm excited to get it. Still waiting for the mail to come.)
I love these kinds of videos! Everyone has different tastes, so sometimes we might agree and other times I might love something you hate. Either way, it's always fun! One book/series I absolutely hated was the 50 Shades of Gray trilogy. I know, I know.....I shouldn't have even read it, but a friend convinced me to give it a shot. Those three books are a week of my life that I will never get back. I kept hoping they would get better. Nope. I have no issue with how explicit they are, the issue was that the story was boring and the writing was horrible! I would rather read the back of a cereal box! Lol Take care!
I totally agree. I love seeing different opinions. oooo I haven't read those books yet! My mum LOVES them though. hahahaha I can see why they would be hated though
I don't like the mortal instruments series or at least city of bones. I haven't been able to motivate myself to read the rest of the series but I'm going to try because everyone just doesn't shut up about it. I mean, i think a lot of the hype is really surrounding the world itself and since I've never been an escapist reader I don't feel connections with secondary worlds as much as other people do. (Possibly why I also don't like Harry Potter) but I just felt the writing was so messy. Like I feel like the plots the beginning was almost centred around meeting all the supernatural beings that some things were just so random and it felt so clustered. And okay, you'd have to be dumb to not realize they're not siblings because it's a book and happy endings are a thing but damn I just don't think I could make myself read a book about almost fake incest. It's just not... okay.
There's not that many books I dislike, one would be Miss Peregrines Home for Peculiar Children, I found it so boring I DNF'ED it, I will finish the trilogy, cause I finish what I start, and Station Eleven, I found it really boring that I skim read half of it, I did originally dislike Daughter of Smoke and Bone, but I'm gonna give it another go cause I felt like I judged it unfairly based on the length of the book, I do not plan to read Black Ice, like a girl falls in love with a guy who KIDNAPPED her, just no, I only plan to read the Hush Hush series by her and that's it
It took me three tries to get into Miss P's but I skimmed the second book and haven't finished the third. Ugh, the plot of Black Ice is honestly so stupid. You're doing good to not read it!
Miss Peregrines was god awful. It was so fucking slow. I just wanted to traverse back in time to shake the author by the shoulders as he was writing it. Speed it the fuck up. Get on with it already. Not every word you have ever written is gold.
FacingDeath1 It wasn't at all slow for me, and had really unique and interesting writing and was super funny. It's just my opinion but I think it just depends what writing styles you like... I hate books that are super actiony right away with NOOO world building whatsoever...
I feel like you can't really understand An Abundance of Katherines unless you were a child prodigy like Colin from the book. To me, the main point of this book wasn't the romance, it was Colin coming to terms with not always being the smartest person in the room and the fact that he may not be the next famous genius. His fear of everyone catching up to him is a fear most intelligent children have when they reach a certian age. You knew how to do something at age 7, but now you're 13 and everyone else knows it too. Maybe you know other things they don't, but the difference isn't as big. It's still there, but you fear that it'll go way and you won't be "special" anymore. That was the thing I remembered most from it. It was very relateable for me, but I understand that most people might not relate to it, because it seems to be for a specific audience.
a court of thorns and roses is the beginning of the story and for me it's very interesting and a court of mist and fury is showing us what the truth is about all of the story. The connection between this two books is very strong, just need a understanding.
As an avid reader (2000 books and counting) I find that the most books I hate are in the YA genre, which I used to read religiously, or just poorly written science fiction. The twilight saga, though I think this goes without saying, it's a horrific series of books and I sadly was obsessed with them for a while in my youth. The Fallen series, which again, I used to love, but looking back, the characters are so problematic that I get angry thinking about it. The Immortal series by Alison Noël, and though I distinctly remember loving the hell out of the first book, Evermore, I was about halfway through the second book and hated it. Hated it so much. The pacing was strange, the characters were bland and conceited. The shiver series by Maggie Steifvater. I loved the first book shiver far too much and read it over and over and over again whilst waiting for the second book in the series. But then, I assume I grew up and the characters are again bland, the relationships are strained and too forced to be believable. The hush hush series was incredible when I was younger, but then reading it again I wanted to claw my own eyes out. Becca Fitzpatrick writes her female characters as nothing more than empty shells for you to project onto, but then they are so dumb who would want to project onto them anyway?
my best friend tried reading the A Court of Thornes and Roses series and liked (I think) the first one but couldn't even get halfway through the second one.
My parents bought me a copy of Abundance of Katherines for Christmas one year because they think they're clever. (Ironically the same year they gave me a copy of my favourite book The Perks Of Being a Wallflower).
I 'hate' those Kiera Cass books as well. I can see how they would be fun for preteen readers maybe, but I was just constantly distracted by how ridiculous I found the entire concept. They are the only books I have ever read where I kept reading to see just how bad they would get. The other day I heard two of my local librarians raving about how much they loved them and I was SHOCKED. I guess everyone likes different books though!
I will never read another Becca Fitzpatrick book ever again after Hush Hush. She writes her female protagonists to be so stupid and so dumb. It pisses me off just thinking about it. And I hated The Selection. I gave it 1 star on Goodreads.
When you said that Cassandra Clare keeps rewriting the same characters but with different name and different genders i fUCKING SNORTED
Lily c reads is a fucking savage and I love it. 😂
omg i fucking love you x
right back at you girl
Thirteen Reasons Why. It was so lame, the reasons were stupid, the characters weren't likable, the reason Clay was on the list was a total cop out, all the secondary characters all blended together because none of them got any characterization...i could go on
Catsandcamera it was the first ever audiobook I listened to, when i was like 13 (and the last but ya know) I actually really liked it, but I'm pretty sure that's because I was 13 and didn't really get what were good books & bad books

The young adult genre seems so monotonous. If you've read one, you're pretty much read them all. The Mad Hattress
I've read a lot of YA books and a lot of them I have read are kind of different from others but I prefer middle grade and classics
I see where you're coming from, but I think if you delve deep into YA, you can find some real gems.
Cool thank you for the suggestions!
I really didn't like the fault in our stars, John Greens plots are so cliche, his characters are annoying & unlikeable
Kaya Rose agree! I have a hard time relating to his characters
Kaya Rose I agree! His books are just plain boring, I have read much more entertaining books, why are his books always on mainstream?
I never liked John Green. Everything he wrote seemed like a cheap knockoff of Catcher in the Rye.
Elise M I wrote an essay on that for AP English haha
I dont know his books but I like him as a person? lmao
I got that impression too. Good point.
I just think his books are overrated.
I don't like "Catcher In The Rye". XD
But I like some of John Green's work.
I read like 3 pages of an abundance of Katherines and it just didn't grab my attention.
UniDaUnicorn 1128 same I read the first chapter and it sounded stupid
I liked it but compared to other John Green books, it was pretty bad.
UniDaUnicorn 1128 same
UniDaUnicorn 1128 same I tried 3 times...
Who writes a book about a guy only liking Catherine's? John Green
I read Paper Towns but didn't enjoy it either. I remember reading it in anticipation of the movie but then after reading it, I didn't even bother to look at the movie.
a few years after reading literally any john green book, you'll realise ALL his books are the same but the people have different names, including the comic relief characters.
YES. It's just characters retold with different names
I loved the selection TRILOGY. Though when Kiera made two more novels on America's daughter I was done. She is such a brat. I will say she does change as a character more in the second book.
I couldn't stand her at all! I didn't mind the trilogy at all, but damn, why she gotta extend it??
Ava JOJO Evelyn was such a bitch. I used to love her at first, but looking back, I can’t help but wonder why I liked her. America, I could stand but Evelyn was so spoiled and so hard to relate to
I really like hate/dislike videos. I think it's great to get that perspective as it gives a far more rounded idea of your taste and preferences. It's easier to align if I will enjoy book A recommendation from you if I know you also disliked book B.
Also helps that I don't disagree with any books you included on this list!
haha I love them too! Exactly same reason for why you do too :)

Jasmine Stanley Maybe to give it a second chance, or if there is a character that you want to follow.
Gayest Fairy I wouldn't say I hated a book if i still care about the characters or still want to give it a second chance.
I'm with you on John Green (I don't get the obsession with him at all), but I did love Will Grayson, Will Grayson. Mostly for David Levithan.
The ending of paper towns is what made it trash.
Shay Tuan you didn't get the message then
I agree with you so much on The Selection series!
Lynch Writing Haha!! What is your book called?? I'll check it out :)
Coming from a major Selection fan, it does not get better. Don't bother.
Yanely Genovious thanks for the warning!
i totally picked up a thousand pieces of you because the cover was so gorgeous, but i literally couldn't handle the story
YOU ARE ME!!! hahaha
so many people don't like an abundance of katherines its like the unappreciated child lol. whatever i'll always love that book
I loved Lily's video too! I haven't read any of the books you mentioned but loved hearing everything you hated about them!
*hears you say you hated ACOTAR*
Me: YES!
*hears you say you loved ACOMAF*
ME: Oh....
I totally didn't want to like it when I started it!!!
I feel like I'm the only person who liked An Abundance of Katherines haha
M.O.J my favorite of all John green ;)
M.O.J I accidently disliked your comment omg so sorry HAHAHA! I wanted to say that I did finish reading An Abundance of Katherines and I didn't dislike it but it wasn't captivating! I'm glad to see that there are actually readers who like this book! I want all books to be loved hahaha :D
I liked it too. :) But yes. We seem to be few and far between.
Wow I love your comment
Looking for Alaska is really good but all the other ones kinda suck.
trueeee
Kurt Cobain I liked Looking for Alaska until the resolution. I was just like, "THAT'S IT?!". So yeah...
Hey Brekker! Yeah I agree
Kurt Cobain I actually like the selection series and lady midnight
Little Donut I do too! :D
I can agree with so many of these, especially Lady Midnight. Plus, WAY too many siblings to remember like WHY
RIGHT!!! At least give us a reference to flick back to to see who's being talked about
IKR
I thought Fallen sucked! So much so I didn't even finish the book, it had a rediculous love story with my three most hated troupes: Love triangle, mysterious brooding male lead and the lost princess type character that has memory loss and doesn't know how special she is; extremely predictable plotline with a boring main character and extremely uninterestinng love interests! I hope the movie proves better than the book
Meghan Robertshaw Omyghod yes! I frickin hate that book
Meghan Robertshaw Same here GOD it was so boring and the characters had no personality or life. I didn't even finish the first book.
ACOTAR and Lady Midnight? I loved those books although I did love ACOMAF way more
I know so did I, they are my favs
ACOMAF literally broke my heart😢
Lady midnight was amazing
IKRRRRRRRRRRRRRR
the darkest minds that ending pissed me off
I haven't read the last book yet so it's good to know I probably wont haha
After reading that book, I stopped. I didn't enjoy the writing, the characters, or the "world". So.
In regards to dragon books: have you read the Seraphina duology? They're really dense, but really good. The mythology was really cool.
the first one made me gasp o:
I've always told people I don't like it and gasp are the general reaction hehe
Funny cause I literally gasped when she showed the first book too!! 😂
i loved Our Chemical Hearts. the book gave me mixed emotions. i just finished the book and i'm crying my ass off rn. i don't know what to feel, what to say. i feel so sappy after reading the book omg
I reaaaaally didn't like An Abundance of Katherines but looooved Lady Midnight. It was one of if not my favorite Cassandra Clare books 😝
I'm a hardcore The Infernal Devices fan hehe
Girl. When you pulled out ACOTAR I was like "nooooo." That's my new holy grail series. I'm so in love with both of them. Yes, the second was waaaay better and I can't wait for the third.
I am shaking with anticipation for the third book like my #1 most wanted book right now
An Abundance of Katherine's was soooooo boring that it actually pissed me off for wasting my time.
Tilly And Her Books I didn't even come close to finishing it
Tara Taillon I personally think that gone girl was so slow but in a way I believe that's the point.
Yeah! I mean, I liked some of the characters but the plot was just too bad to handle.
Yassss I'll look into that book!
Tilly And Her Books It's actually a series. There's ~30 books.
I think it's important we talk about the books we didn't like along with the ones we loved. Some of the books you mentioned I really enjoyed but I respect that and I'm glad you spoke up about this! :)
I totally get the John Green book thing. I really liked Looking for Alaska, but his other books were kinda meh
And A Thousand PIeces of You had such a cool premise byt that actual storyline and execution feel apart.
lol @Teardrop
Also, Tilly, I would love it if you checked out my original NOPE. book tag. It was designed for this!!
I love finding someone with similar opinions! i LOVE EVERYTHING YOU HAVE SAID. EVERYTHING. I'm watching your tag now and I'm agreeing with you on everything so far haha
It's the best! And thanks! You should give it a whirl if you feel like it! I'm trying to spread the ranty-ness spirit because 2016.
I have serious respect for you and putting your opinions out there even though some of them are on my favorites;) you've got guts!
I completely agree with you on The abundance, but when you said Will Grayson, Will Grayson, my heart stopped! It remains one of my favorite book to this day.
I'm relieved, you didn't hate a single one of my faves
I usually enjoy most books that i read tbh. However, one that i didn't like much at all was "you're the kind of girl I write songs about". The characters were pretty boring, there was insta love and they skipped over things that were on a more serious note
OMG I just burst into silent cheering when you held up Lady Midnight xD
I hated this book SO much. I am not a huge Cassandra Clare Fan to begin with but enjoyed her TID series so I gave this another shot... Wow was it bad... I actually felt really offened to be supposed to like something so bad.
RIGHT?! I really hope the next book in the series gets better but after Lady Midnight, I think I'm going off her books
i get so happy when others say they hate an abundance of katherines. omygosh. burn it along with paper towns and looking for alaska.
If the power went out and I was slowly freezing to death I would burn them first
i hated winger with a passion. mc character was annoying, female characters were underdeveloped, (spoiler) the bury your gays trope was used and was a plot device. big no for me.
YES. I didnt mind the book but the ending with the bury your gays was like NOPE
ngl i skipped all of john greens chapters in will grayson will grayson
YES! The cover reveal for ACOWAR is coming today or tomorrow too! EXCITEMENT!
I agree with you on An Abundance of Katherines but disliking Will Greyson Will Greyson hurts me!
omg i hated a court of thorns and roses in the depths of my soul. my sister read it before me and actually liked it! The romance was the most pointless thing and the main character couldve been great but just ended up being awful. for some reason everyone seems to like it tho, so its nice to hear another person who wasn't a fan.
I enjoyed An Abundance of Katherines. The book I did not get was Night Film. Not sure why that one was liked by so many.
I just noticed that you have The Enemy on your shelf and yAAAASSS QUEEN, SOMEONE ELSE HAS READ THOSE BOOKS.
I'm so glad I'm not the only one who wasn't a fan of Lady Midnight, I was so excited to read it and then it took me forever to finish it.
Although I don't agree with all of your choices, I understand your reasoning. As well as everyone likes different things, experiences things differently and just has different preferences when it comes to reading. So I applaud you for putting your thoughts and feelings out there even with the chance that you could be put down for speaking your opinion. Great job!!
Thanks Chloe! I agree :) If the whole world liked the same books...it would probably be a lot easier and we would all be one big fangirling mob haha
I really hate Glass Sword by Victoria Aveyard. The first book in the series was passable but the the second one...I couldn't even finish it. I hated it so much.
HOLY HELL YES.
Soundless was super weird. The creatures at the end kind of came out of nowhere??
Also, agreed. We absolutely need more dragons
"that strange paranormal phase you go through before you discover the rest of the YA genre" is so accurate for me omg. and i especially agree w you on lady midnight haha
hahahaha yessss you're one of my people
I couldn't stand Mrs.
I'm basically just "meh" about most books, idk how to criticize.
i think you're one of the best people there is
im in the middle of reading our chemical hearts, and i 100% agree about it being stupid, but for me it was the writing and predictability that bothered me
i don't know why i feel so upset when people hate/dislike something from the TMI world, i'm just so attached to the shadow world like idk
I hated A Court of Thorns and Roses. I was so excited to read it, and then....one dimensional characters, weird plot, and the main character was deeply unpleasant.
Yep :((( it sucked
I still read the next book because I ain't no quitter, but the second one was actually even worse, and had a stupid ending.
when you said the mara dyer series i felt an actual dagger in my heart
IM SORRY :(
your critique of soundless is exactly how I feel about Someone Like You by Sarah Dessen. Holy crap I hate her writing and trash books.
I AUDIBLY GASPED WHEN YOU SAID MARA DYER LOL MY HEART IS BREAKING
I'M SORRY I'M SORRY
I loved this series too! although i guess i can see where it wouldn't be in some people's tastes
I liked the first three books of The Selection series but not the spin-off. So after reading The crown, i hated them all that i had to sell it away.
The fault in our stars is the worst book I've ever started to read. was so depressing, I could not even get past the first few chapters
It's just not... okay.
There's not that many books I dislike, one would be Miss Peregrines Home for Peculiar Children, I found it so boring I DNF'ED it, I will finish the trilogy, cause I finish what I start, and Station Eleven, I found it really boring that I skim read half of it, I did originally dislike Daughter of Smoke and Bone, but I'm gonna give it another go cause I felt like I judged it unfairly based on the length of the book, I do not plan to read Black Ice, like a girl falls in love with a guy who KIDNAPPED her, just no, I only plan to read the Hush Hush series by her and that's it
Same thing happened with me with Miss Peregrine's.
It took me three tries to get into Miss P's but I skimmed the second book and haven't finished the third. Ugh, the plot of Black Ice is honestly so stupid. You're doing good to not read it!
Aww personally I loved Miss Peregrines...
I hate books that are super actiony right away with NOOO world building whatsoever...
i get that its your opinion buy when you said you hated ladymidnight i started screaming at.my screen because i fucking loved that book it was so good
I'm so grateful you didnt say Looking For Alaska! I love that book so much and I dont understand the hate.
I love it too!
Fallen seems like gets a lot of love, but I just see people hating it a lot... So who are the people who love it?
Yessssss your comments on Soundless were spot on (and I love Richelle Mead)
a court of thorns and roses is the beginning of the story and for me it's very interesting and a court of mist and fury is showing us what the truth is about all of the story.
I'm so happy I'm not the only one who hated Lady Midnight so much
YAS SOMEONE ELSE!
Has anyone here read The Diabolic? I didn’t like some parts of it, but I loved the rest of it!
I will never read another Becca Fitzpatrick book ever again after Hush Hush. She writes her female protagonists to be so stupid and so dumb. It pisses me off just thinking about it. And I hated The Selection. I gave it 1 star on Goodreads.
I hated: Paper Towns, An Abundance of Katherines, the Lux series and Allegiant.
Sorry, not sorry.
Yes!! She didn't need the books about the children. I loved the first three Selection books.
