Thank you, it's a pleasure to follow your projects. Compared to other restorer such as "my mechanics" you end up with a piece that looks still like an antique piece of furniture rather than something better than new. For many of us, that older look is pleasing.

Великолепная работа, очень проффесиональная, сразу видно вы настоящий мастер реставратор. К сожалению настоящих реставраторов уже почти не осталось.
Спасибо вам за ваши труды, и то что сохраняете частичку истории.

I remember the Sputnik era well. In grade school, we would gather in the auditorium and watch all the space shots on a tiny black and white television. Because of the interest, our classes turned out many more engineers and scientists than in the past.

Very true. And I studied Russian as a senior in high school, taught by a wonderful Ukrainian, which makes watching TH-cams about Ukraine more interesting. It wouldn't have been offered without sputnik's wake up call to the U.S.

Brilliant design. I think the 60s were the best when it comes to design. Not just furniture, but cars, trolleybuses, buses, trucks, all sorts of kitchen appliances and other household items (like the vacuum cleaner you showed). It was the decade of pinnacle in design in the 20th century. 70s became more boxier, 80s were just plain ugly and in the 90s all cars started to look the same, because of safety regulations. The most ugly cars are from 2010s. They look like oversized toys.

Actually had to search for Osmo Wax Oil ... never heard of it before.
A blend of vegetable oils (sunflower, soybean and thistle) and waxes (carnauba and candelilla) combined with a small amount of low-odor solvent to improve workability, The finish provides protection comparable to varnish but is much more forgiving to apply - you can use a variety of methods (brush, roller, buffing pad or cloth), and a dust-free environment is not required. You don’t need to sand between coats, which also makes future repairs straightforward.
Osmo Polyx is resistant to water, alcohol and mild acids, making it suitable for a range of applications, from flooring and furniture to high-moisture environments such as kitchens or bathrooms.
btw ... easier ... not easyer

A very subtle way to hint at a space theme, for a beautifully simple table masterfully restored. One of the most satisfying things about watching Ahti regularly is that I can accurately predict how he will address some things (wet cloth & iron to steam the scratch up), but there's always something new or unexpected, too (add me to the list of people who'd not heard of Osmo wax oil, which sounds brilliant).

Sputnik-mania spread even to the USA. In the mid-1960s, My paternal grandparents had a very similarly styled tables (two "end tables" and a larger "coffee table") arranged with a semi-circular sofa and two round armed-chairs. The legs of all were black, the table tops were of birch or pine. I think the sofa and chairs had black legs also, but the cushions were a very 1960s reddish-orange like a ripe tomato. It was a very striking arrangement. But I think the item you restored is better. Certainly better for having been so masterfully restored.

The 60s are back, when it comes to furniture design. Retro/Vintage stores are going through a booming business time, when they have items on sale from the 60s. And even IKEA is "reinventing" that particular era. As I spotted almost the exact same design furniture that my Parents bought when they got married in 1964.

Beautiful restoration! Your video brought back some great memories for me. My grandfather and my mother operated a furniture and cabinet shop in San Bruno CA in the 50s and 60s. One of the furniture pieces they made were 2 level side tables. The kidney shape tables were a big hit as well as the ones with the marble tops. I helped attach the hanger bolts in the legs and the mounting plates on the bottoms and put them in boxes for shipping.
