Hello from Florida, USA. I just happened to watch a video one day and now I'm hooked! I know nothing about all of this. Everything you restore is amazing. I'm a nurse, and to me, you are a "surgeon" for furniture that is broken. I can't imagine how many years it took for you to learn how do do this. Each "patient" is unique. I'm in awe.

That turned out really nicely! The splice and stain matching on the broken leg was brilliant!

@@cricketfighter123 What we know as turnbuttons in Australia, are used in marine applications. It's a post that is fixed on a rail or deck that has a spring loaded button that is turned so that tarpolins can be fixed down.

There was such a piece of furniture in my grandmother's room. A white napkin with embroidered flowers in the form of a pattern was placed on each shelf (DIY)
They put on sticks : photographs, watches, books, newspapers, a casket
We called it "etażerka"

Your attention to detail is astonishing to me. You make the tedious look easy. Not very many people would have the skills or patience to do what you do to old furniture. Kudos to you big time. You would never know what sad shape that shelf unit was in to look at it now. 10 + out of 10 on this job. Whould be interesting to know how many hours you spent on this shelf.

That tennon repair might be a standard technique, but for me as a non woodcraftsman it was pure genius.

Have you ever thought of making replicas of antique furniture? Your skill is certainly on a level where you would achieve this. Maybe try selling some "new made old stuff". Good old craftsmanship and quality that will last decades.
During my apprentership (carpenter in Germany) we made copies from old furniture to improve our skills.
But there are two problems. Traditonal techniques are time consuming/ expensive. The second problem are the legal term, selling this furnitur would be considert as fake and punishd.
Maybe some day I will if there is client who is ready to pay for it.
@@jonawolf8023 If you market is as replicas, fully admitting that they are, it should be OK I think. You are not making a fake, you are recreating something of real value. Real Handwerk, as you might say. Traditional techniques are time consuming, I agree. But I think there will be a market for such products. Not the IKEA mass produced things (which I have at home and certainly do not claim they are inferior). If I ever earn that much money, I would pay a true artist - craftsman to do the job.

@@erikziak1249 to be more precise. The use of the techniques and even making and selling a replica is legal if i mark them and ensure that nobody can remove the mark...
The German Market for antique is very tricky becaus antiques are seen as oportunitie to do tax evasion o invest money. That means ther are lots of regulations an one hand, an the other hand we have a big market for fakes. Mixing old furniture an new ons means you will have lots of problems becaus of tax evasion or fraud.

Hi, Ahti. In English, those fasteners are called "cleats". They are my favourite way of fastening a wooden table top. They're just so old school and functional. I love them!
I think the 'kutsikad' are shelf pins, shelf spoons, or shelf supports in my country.
The amount of care, attention to detail, and efforts to preserve as much of the original material is absolutely wonderful. I love watching the results of your hard work and the effort you take to make sure the completed project is done correctly the first time.

I would call your "puppies", ; cleats. Used to fix a table top or solid chair seat to the frame without glue. It allows a little expansion and contraction due to change in moisture level, without the top cracking

Beautiful work ! Just sayin, in french it's more like an "étagère" than an "desserte". A "desserte" would have some little wheels on the feets. The point of a "desserte" it's to help waiters (or domestics) to take dishes to the table for the launch, that's why there is some wheels !

Being of quite light construction I suggest that those shelves are for light weight ornaments etc and not as a bookcase. May I suggest that you get a rubber mallet for separating joints in wooden furniture thereby avoiding bruising or damaging the wooden parts. I enjoy watching your furniture repairs/restoration videos very much. Thank you.

Ahti, basically, those things are table top fasteners. Amazon sells metal ones & offers this info:
"Table Top Fasteners provide a sturdy connection between the tabletop and apron, while still allowing the top to expand and contract with seasonal humidity changes. This prevents cracks from forming over time."
Your hand-made wooden ones are much more in keeping with the integrity of the design.
