- Here's the Starfield May update. Join community director Jess Finster, art director Istvan Pely, and lead producer Joe Mueller for a deep dive into what you can expect with the new Starfield update, available on Steam Beta today, May 1st, and on all platforms on May 15, 2024.
The May Update for Starfield includes more detailed surface maps, new gameplay difficulty options, new features for ship customization with the ship decoration mode for ship interiors, and more. Lead creative producer Tim Lamb also shares a peek at what's coming to Starfield in the future.
Starfield is available now on PC, Game Pass, and Xbox Series X/S.

As someone who enjoyed city maps and markers in my games for the past 20 years or so, I'm really excited for the starfield players to finally get and enjoy this feature

@@TheRoguePrince0You do not customize a car in most games, not even in most open world games with cars. People have been complaining about the map issue because it is usually a basic feature. So the 2 are not really comparable instances
@@TheRoguePrince0 1400hp car only does 200mph when a 2022 hellcat with 700hp can do 250mph. Cyberpunks cars are atrociously bad.

@@dachshund_gaming Dude they shipped a game with non functional city maps. Do you remember Skyrim? They're 12 years behind themselves when it comes to quality. That's one of several staggeringly poorly thought out systems in the game.
@@Sku11King77 they also shipped the game with a fully functional ship builder, multiple faction questlines, numerous side quests, robust ship combat and gunplay - there is a huge amount of content in Starfield. Starfield isn’t “early access” just because it lacks some small quality of life features like map icons for shops. Do you know what early access is?
Jokes aside, some of these changes are really welcome into the game, despite taking 7 months to release them and the fact that they should have come in 1.0

How about adding the ability to ACTUALLY FLY SHIPS INSTEAD OF FAST TRAVELING
The only thing that would bring me back to Starfield is if they added literally a hundred new random points of interest that could be spawned onto the planets when "exploring", rather than what feels like 4..... Abandoned Mining Facility, Abandoned Robotics Factory, Abandoned Research Lab, cave.
I'm hoping Shattered Space will be a new area/galaxy that's not procedural, if they do that I'm heading back in

More loading = more immersion! Bethesda logic. Rockstar and other devs seem to have no issues with minimizing loading for massively detailed open worlds.
It's not that bad if you have an SSD, it is still annoying sometimes obv.

Why do they have to pretend to be interviewed by someone, it's so disingenuous. Obviously it's all scripted, even the hellos and goodbyes, it's all acted. Its so sterilized and impersonal, just be natural why fake an interview, it's like watching a TV commercial for a new pain relief cream. I'm actually excited for this "land vehicle", get that working, get them to release Creation Kit and we're golden!
Biggest gripe for the game was either how goody goody the main characters all are and how they shame you every time you do something they don't like, and the lack of decent clothing options for characters.
How about no loading screens and allow us to explore 200x more?

It's possible on any console except they don't want to lower the consoles graphics
Todd Howard said that in some areas it would've been 60 fps without an fps cap in some areas, but they capped for consistency. Digital Foundry tested the PC equivalent of a Series X and was able to hit 60 fps in various areas.
Wasn't possible at that time, they've since had 7 months to optimize and bugfix.
Yet the game ran fine for console on release and had the least amount of bugs for any Bethesda game ever. Digital Foundry concluded it was possible 6 months ago.
If they give creators the tools and means to create their own planets from the ground up the possibilities are limitless to what can be possible with this game.
No one is going to do it because the modders are not interested in the game. It's Boooring
seems they already provided the tools for some CCs as a beta, so that is definitely soon
60fps on xbox, land vehicles, and so much more.. Starfield will keep getting better and better.

Christ, I've been looking for a ship decorate mode for so long. Nothing was more infuriating than placing all props manually, only for them to fall through the geometry because of how janky it was.

The dialogue camera option is the highlight for me. Always disliked the old school zoomed in camera.
Yeah, and the NPCs are constantly looking up, like they are looking at your character model or the actors are reading their lines, can't figure out which.

A random thing that should have been changed is the blue-black background when you are in the menu or looking at inventory etc. perhaps it shouldn't be opaque or blank. Being opaque and blank gives it a small-world feel
