Massive shout - ship building is one of my favorite features of starfield, and love the empty Habs. Your vid has been like a go-to since you dropped it. Swear I've watched this once a week at least
I'm enjoying these comparison videos. It'd be interesting to take 2 manufacturers, say Deimos and Nova, and compare the empty and regular habs. I don't think it'd be a popular video, but it would show off the differences and maybe point out real structural differences (such as extra walls/doors in the equipped version.
There's (47) 2x1's in the game, that alone would make for probably an hour long video if not even longer. And I have videos on ALL Habs, both empty and normal. There all in the Playlist this video is in. I'm not saying it isn't a good suggestion but I do already have videos up of them all.
When Cora walked across the han and effortlessly kicked a 90lb weight plate across the room just by walking, I realized that you can push every NPC out of the way, including Kaiser who's over a ton of steel, but you cannot budge Cora. Did Sam secretly adopt her from the planet Krypton?
Honestly, the one thing I'm missing from this interior building system currently is the ability to change the walls, by that I mean like the walls in the outposts where we can change the variant we want, being with windows or not or which type. That would allow us to tailor the wall variant we want where we want, this would be Huge with this interior modeling.
I agree. All the assets exist because they used the same hab assets to make many of the encounter locations. Also, can they please give us access to the existing shower assets for our outposts?
Sadly we will be very unlikely to see interior wall options without mods. Like with Fallout 4 NPC path-finding is still complete dependent on Nav-Meshing. Every added object has to be worked around. Meaning the NPC detects a point in the mesh is blocked so they used the next path around on the grid. But walls block so much of that grid at a time it becomes resource intensive to calculate a usable path. So Bethesda would rather not take the performance hit to the already buggy engine by letting people build a SAW maze and then flooding the bug reports with even more sudden FPS drops then they already get
They could just do like the SOLO DEV did for Manor Lords and add into the Engine a way to distinguish in the Bug report if the Bug is being caused by a Mod.

Awesome vid. Ive been wanting to use a 2x1 empty hab as a compaion way for some time and ive just swapped out the 2 1x1s for the stroud computer core empty. Looks a dream
I wanted , so badly, to support Eckland Stroud Habs..but none of their Beds or Galleys are operational...that is very dissappointing. 25:14..Double Damn..!! ...Deimos is not working either...this is soo messed up. .
I'm so dirty they broke the beds and galleys in the empty Stroud Habs. I'm using 2x1 AIO and its perfect in my ship except the table in the middle is a bit a bottleneck. If I could get rid of that it would be perfect. Also Bethesda forgot to put the display name for the "Taiyo All-In-One Berth Empty 2x1 Top B" in the ship builder. The display name is empty for that hab. It shows the display name correctly for the Top A one though. It really feels like they rushed this patch.
The irony of saying "feels like they rushed the patch" is it's been EIGHT MONTHS since Starfield launched in "Early Access" with a team of hundreds and this is what they've been doing?
Yanno looking at all of these... it really sucks that there are 6 main ship manufacturers. Each with their own feel in lore: Nova: the explorers. Being prepared for anything. Deimos: the navy. militaristic performance and utility. Hopetech: the hauler. built for the dirtiest and toughest jobs. Taiyo: the sports car. Sleek, elegant, stylish, and flashy. Stroud: the future. Only the newest and most cutting-edge in technologies and development. Trident: the flex. Sheer gold-plated indulgence and luxury. But instead of that variety its just... Three styles in a small selection of finishes. Only nova maintains its uniqueness in these habs. And we dont even get anything offered in Trident.
Agreed. Makes me wonder if Modders can go far enough to actually flesh out proper uniqueness for each Staryard's Habs (inside mostly). I don't know if that'll be something they are able to do, or will care to take on such a large project.
TN made a ship interiors builder mod; two weeks later Beth released this. It's quite possible some noob at Beth just ripped his mod but didn't know how to code so this is what manifested.
QA/QC is you! Why pay a designer/engineer/developer $$$ to handle little things when the internet will do it for free!? And I'm not a developer myself, but feel there's a enough cross-over with my CAD-based profession that I can see where the 'glitches' you see are bits of things placed on the wrong layers or objects with typos or the wrong reference or classification for things that results in something gettering deleted when it wasn't supposed to (wall supports, functional elements like doors or galleys) and vice versa (the coffee stains, computer noises). But the other thing this exposes is that there IS considerable beauty in the base detailing-I cannot stress that enough-of the basic structures and elements but outside of the basic design language, things are still one-offs and not an established kit of parts. Maybe that's a function of the engine, but holy moly is this inefficient...

The reason I do it this way is because Deimos/Nova are in the same system. For those unaware, in order to make certain you have access to everything a Staryard makes you MUST go directly to their respective location. Though I don't disagree with your suggestion.
Haven't watched the video yet, but heads up-- every empty hab you place WILL spawn a ladder no matter what. Meaning LOTS AND LOTS OF LADDERS if you use multiple. :/ [ Was confusion. Read comments for more context. ]
I'm not certain what you mean by that. If you are referring to vertical stacking of Habs, that's fairly obvious that it'll spawn a Ladder. If you're talking about how the Empty Habs seem to spawn Doors at EVERY possible location simultaneously, then that leading to Ladders also then yeah that sucks.
@@delindsay In a ship with two 2x1s on top of two 2x1s-- one empty hab will spawn one ladder, no empty hab will spawn one ladder, and two or more empty habs will spawn two ladders. I guess this has to deal with the door issue or at least, but yeah-- agreed.
Actually now that I think about it, I can say this is NOT the case, at least with the 2x2 Empties because I had no choice but slab them (placed directly on top of each other) which gave the game 4 locations to spawn a Ladder but it didn't, just 1 in, 1 out. Does that mean 2x1's are the same, I'm going to test to find out.
Alright, I have now tested this and am happy to say your statement is incorrect. Empty 2x1's DO NOT automatically spawn Ladders in both possible locations just because you stack them on top of each other. This is the same with normal Habs as well.
The lack of attention to detail is astounding. Makes me wonder if the devs were rushed to get this stuff out for beta. Also I'm hoping that the galley situation with the Stroud habs is just a bug. Would be nice to have a functioning galley as with the other manufacturer's habs.
