thank you for telling the people about the fastest engines in the game and the Particle Beams. I've been telling people to go fast and use particle beams for a while now
You will drop this ship once you obtain the star eagle, it’s way stronger and way better, you obtain it by finishing the freestar collective quest in Akila
FYI You can obtain the Razorleaf itself and the Mantis Armor starting quest from as soon as your first encounter with Spacers after you get the Frontier. This is how I obtained the quest but left it alone due to its higher level until I learned of the Mantis from a unique ships video and its special interactions from looking it up. The fact that those special interactions remain if you upgrade the ship is definitely worth watching this guide.
Great video and easy to follow! I liked that there is a kind of starter build if you aren't as late into the game or don't have the creds for the full thing.
The adversary repellant feature of the Manta ship upgraded or not means less enemy to fight, less experience, less bounty etc. If you want to avoid most fights then by all means fly the pacifist Manta ship.
I used to love melting enemies within seconds, but then stealing ships was almost impossible. So, my arsenal now is a good dps particle weapon, an em weapon for disabling, and a good set of turrets. The only time I changed out the em’s was during the Crimson Fleet quest line. No spoilers as to why. 🙂
That was a great video, I never considered trying to keep the Razorleaf's basic profile, I always just deleted it and built from scratch. I did however use a similar loadout and component list, that Vanguard gear is amazing in vaniilla.
You can hack the debug tools with max security skill that make the buffs last for all 6 waves . This combined with clearing wave six and listening to all the recordings in the hall get you your citizenship in just three years .
I always wondered what the point of going higher was, I only ever bothered with three waves, just to get through it. That said, it's still a bit pointless when there's another quest that gives you citizenship immediately.
@@tareskisloki8579 true but the simulator counts towards the destroy hostile ships challenge for piloting and as theres no penalty for losing 🤔. Same for all that " useless junk laying around as it sells for only a few credits and weighs little its good for the sell items challenge for the trader skill
This is the base for my Current Darkstar Astrodynamics Razorleaf build. It just looks wicked, and the parts I'm adding will make it able to go farther and do even more damage than it does now.
I did this on my first playthrough, regretted it and turned the Frontier into the same ship, minus the pirates running away. I need the contraband. I NEED IT.
I use the razorleaf as main ship, i prefer to keep it light and nimble with low mass, high speed and mixed armaments EM and particle beams, crews of two, me and Vasco (i have a bounty hunter character with isolation perk) and maximum class B. That's a very fun ship to fly and very effective, with the right perks of course.
I've made my Razorleaf into a hauler, with minor upgrades so far. With this guide, i could potentially make it into the galaxy's most feared combat freighter 😂
I upgraded the Razorleaf to the most powerful combat ship (with +6000 cargo) and 100 mobility.. AND shaped it in the form of the Rocinante from the show The Expanse. It's fckin phenomenal! Even though I renamed it the Rocinante, it's still "The Mantis" ship and spacers and pirates recognize it in game and run away half the time, it's hilarious! For all ya'll who may not know, the Razorleaf (Mantis Ship) is recognized by all spacers/pirates even if you rename it or reshape it, the game still registers it as the Mantis Ship.
You have created a really aesthetically pleasing hunter here! Not quite as powerful as another player's Dark Scythe, but significantly faster and more maneuverable (although no cargo capacity - which also has advantages when skilling). I didn't want to customize the real Razorleaf, even though I'm missing out on the funny cutscenes with pirates. But since the Razorleaf only consists of 08 / 15 parts, it is easy and cheap to rebuild, mainly at the Deimos star shipyard and your own ship lander. Based on that, I followed your lead! Maybe your builds will also make it into my collection as “Class B” and “Class C” - they are both very combat capable (Kryx solo wipes out in 0.nix). Thanks a lot! -- Ah, a little joke on the side: My Razorleaf plagiarism was based on a [Crimson Fleet] Ghost. In contrast to all the other templates, “The Key” now gives me a friendly greeting with the Mantis plagiarism. :-D The game probably still recognizes the “Ghost” in the model.
Thanks for the comment! I checked out that Dark Scythe, and it is remarkably similar in performance :) We’ve learned quite a bit about what are technically the best weapons in the game, but also the best shield. But another difference is the reactor, and whether you choose the Pinch 8A for its significantly higher hull points (your ship’s HP) but only 36 power, or the 8Z or Sheared Flow for 40 power points but much less HP. The following two videos go really deep on all of the stats :) Cheers! th-cam.com/video/dbg9vumL1tE/w-d-xo.html th-cam.com/video/ekTAhn6u8us/w-d-xo.html
@@ShipTechnician I had build your ship too. As base i used an cheap crimson fleet Scout. Then i built the razorleaf. After this i followed your video. 😀 It was fun too, to communicate with "the key" with RazorLeaf 2.0 Refit as an genuine Crimson Fleet Ship (friendly hail it was).
Always Great! I have adopted many of your techniques 😊 when using EM, which are the Best? and drop which of these 3 Particle weapons? I think its drop PBOs and add the Class B Nullifirer 1750... ?
Going through the game again. I stopped at a certain point and forgot most of the story. But I do remember that I need to keep the Mantis off the SSNN wavelengths till I can get my hands on a bunch of these updates and upgrades because it is kind of hard to earn piloting skill unlocks when every enemy sees you and turns to run...
7:28 just started a new playthrough this week and I decided to do something different and did the first Constellation quest, then a UC Vanguard quest, a Freestar Ranger quest, and then a Trackers Alliance quest, and I got the Mantis slate doing the first Tracker Alliance "Find Hannibal" quest, killing a Spacer in the Chop Shop star yard. So it is a random loot drop but it does come up very early on, for me I think I was Level 7.
Hello there! Thanks for your efforts. I cant find the "DEIMOS Control Center 2x1". I am level 25 and ship design skill 2. What could be the reason? Thank you
Love this! Will boost the cargo with skill points and perks. I am however, having a hard time seeing how I will ever board a ship again. With all that firepower, it will be hard not to blow it out of space…. I might consider replacing the third type of weapon system with the best suppressors. What is an estimate of overall cost to this design?
A good improvement, but I don’t see the practical use of a ship without a cargo compartment for no less than 5000. Unless it’s just for the picture. To make it convenient to play, the cargo compartment needs 10,000
Well... now I have to log back in and relearn how to play this game.. because I turned my Mantis ship into the batwing.. LOL.. but it's still not as powerful.. definitely need to make some upgrades.
As in depth as this is, not knowing the skill levels for certain things up front was a let down. I got up to the engine part and couldn't get the 3015's as I didn't have level 4. Please put a note in the video earlier so people can save time and frustration. I scrubbed through to see what other "stop gap prereqs" I needed, thankfully I'm level 65 and maxed piloting. Now I just need 2 more levels and the skill points from that to get the parts I'm missing. Settled on 3000's for now. Back to the workbench I go...
Been binging your content. And I have to say, you gotten me to step back from that whole A B C build mindset. I had already been messing about with B class grav drives and reactors while keeping A class drives for the 150 speed. What I did not know about (because I never paid attention to them) was the speed bonus of the WD 3015's. I've been a big fan of the White Dwarf drives from day one due to their power to weight ratio. Same with the SA series of engines. So in this play through, I had decided to keep the Frontier and the RazorLeaf stock, with the exception of a reactor upgrade. But after watching this video, I decided to tear into the RazorLeaf. I wanted to keep her light, fast and nasty. So keeping to your light fighter theory I kept her at a mass of 510. Cant wait to head out there are terrorize the ne'er do wells of this little corner of the galaxy.
Are you enjoying the new difficulty modifiers? The devs putting the XP gains next to each one in the settings is genius in my opinion. I love now having a 51% XP boost but man afflictions are a serious problem now lol.
They change the game for me. I love it. I’ve wanted more difficulty for a long time, and also wanted vendors to have more credits so I can easily build more ships!
@@ShipTechnician same here. It’s gotten me totally re-obsessed into the game. You may have mentioned this before but I haven’t really seen anyone talk about it in a video - the throttle meter on the ship HUD when you’re flying, the lower left hand corner has that sliding bar that shows how much throttle you’re giving your ship, and in the middle of the meter there’s a thicker white bar that shows where your thrust should be to give you optimum turning radius. I’ve tested it with my most and least maneuverable ships and it’s a useful thing to pay attention to because you can definitely turn much more tightly in a super massive ship if you keep your throttle in the middle of that white bar. I’m always tempted to keep my throttle mashed down but that’s usually what costs me my turning radius.
You could have done away with the control station and replaced the cockpit with one of those massive ones. The one I'm currently using has 8(!) crew slots.
before i used to take the mantis and make it a b class, i usually don't change the looks but the main components and bc i don't like to sacrifice a bed for 8 companions so i always stay on 6 companions and the beds but lately i take one of the 1st ship's and just upgrade it I'm about to star a ng+ so i might give it a try, might not use it too much but I'll do it ty!!
Didn't even know that flying the Mantis would give you these speech options lol. The problem IMO is that this game favors flying a single jack-of-all-trades ship vs specializing. There's little use for dedicated fighting or cargo vessels when a single teched-out high-tier ship will get you there as well.
I've always thought this too, if I wasn't so lazy I'd have a ship for every occasion, which would be immersive on a RP front, but as it stands, I have one OP former Razorleaf with a massive cargo hold and full compliment of crew, then a bunch of basically useless ships that I picked up on the way gathering dust in the background.
where can you get the deimos cowling and the nova radiators from? I am at 19:16 ion trying to do the last parts, but where can I get all those pieces at the same place?
Not sure if you’re still playing or making these videos I just watched your video on engines 👍🏽 on my Xbox And while I’ve been trying to make a ship that fits me, the Habs are pretty confusing and don’t say which end has a door or not as far as I can tell I wanted to make straight shots but instead I keep turning my ship into a maze because I can’t tell where the doors for the Hans are
The game does seem to place doors where you wouldn’t want them. There is a mod that allows you to place doors yourself, if you’re interested in such things
That's a bit excessive. It is difficult to capture ships when vaporizing them. Though, I never found a capitol ship to battle. The pirate faction quest doesn't count.
dude I'm on another playthrough and I have the quest for the mantis (previously I never really used the ship)and I was just going to ignore and do other missions that I've skipped before.....until now hilariously dialogue😂
Tanks for IT! I would prefer to keep Class A, because of a posible Speed of 150! AT Level 43 you can get a Class A Reactor mit 31 or 33 Power. Then IT is for me the best ship. But anyway, IT makes fun, Real fun😊
One downside to the FINAL Upgrade to Most Powerful Combat Ship is that it has four White Dwarf 3015 engines, requiring 12 power slots. With shields maxed out at 12 and weapons at 6 each, I can afford only half the power to engines, making my top speed 90. To get more top speed, I swapped out the four White Dwarf 3015 engines for a pair of Dunn-71s. That gets me a top speed of 140 while leaving the rest of the power settings the same.
Up your Aneutronic Fusion skill, put Sam Coe, Omari, and Andromeda Kepler on your crew, and that gives you 8 additional power points. And/or build the ship like this one with only two WD3015s: Extreme Difficulty + Extreme Analytics = Extreme Ship th-cam.com/video/dbg9vumL1tE/w-d-xo.html
@@ShipTechnician Thanks for the reply. I didn't know you could get 8 extra power points that way. Unfortunately, I'm playing as a solo stealth sniper, with Isolationist skill maxed and with Introvert trait, so I don't have crew (or companions joining me), so all I could get would be the 5 with Aneutronic Fusion. Still, that would be worth the investment. I built the Extreme Difficulty + Extreme Analytics = Extreme Ship. Very nice! Just wish it had a bit more cargo space. You mentioned adding a 2x1 empty hab to up the cargo. I added the empty 2x1, but didn't see how to up the cargo space. BTW, how to Sam Coe and Omari help with power points? They don't have Aneutronic Fusion. Only Vasco and Andromeda do.
Sam provides an additional power point to engine, Omari to shields. And you can have crew and still get the isolation perk, they just can’t be your “companion.” And for the cargo space on that tiny ship, you’d have to go into Decorate mode and add physical cargo boxes to the interior of your ship. They wouldn’t function quite the same as true ship cargo, but it can help to somewhat workaround the lack of cargo in these lightweight ships.
the thing is the RazorLeaf is meant to look a certain way. She mentions that in the recordings. its shape is part of of the whole thing. But still, cool ship.
Great question! The best crew only requires 4 crew spaces, depending on your ship’s weapons. For a ship with all particle beams, Barrett gives those a boost. Otherwise, you may want to either swap out Barrett for someone else that gives other weapons types a bump, or add an additional crew member. -Sam for a boost to top speed, an extra engine power point, and his payloads skill -Omari for extra shield power point -Andromeda or Vasco for an extra reactor power point (you only get the boost from one, not both, and Vasco is glitchy and gets in the way a lot, so I’d recommend Andromeda) Barrett for a boost to particle beams (you can also add Sarah for her Astrodynamics skill which reduces your fuel consumption, but you probably don’t need it if your own character’s skill is maxed, and you don’t want to listen to her complain all the time. She doesn’t count against crew space because of her Leadship skill though, so she kinda doesn’t count).
@@ShipTechnician Thanks! I never realized there were so many possibilities. I never knew all of these recruits were out there till I looked at the wiki

mantis or not picking a fight with a ship equipped with that many guns is suicidal, thanks for the blueprint can't wait to build it
I had no idea I could put a class c reactor on a small ship. This changes everything. Thanks.
thank you for telling the people about the fastest engines in the game and the Particle Beams. I've been telling people to go fast and use particle beams for a while now
Just picked this ship up last night. I deleted the game then decided to try it again after all these months. It hasn't changed much. Nice design.
It would be great if you included a detailed parts list, rather than mousing over them. Other then that great looking ship.
Finally finished my mantis build.
That was a great video, I never considered trying to keep the Razorleaf's basic profile, I always just deleted it and built from scratch. I did however use a similar loadout and component list, that Vanguard gear is amazing in vaniilla.
im so bad at building ships yall are so good at it
You can hack the debug tools with max security skill that make the buffs last for all 6 waves .
Love both our concepts of the mantis ship, well done 👏 ✔️ 👍
This ultimate Razorleaf screams "Dakka"!
Waaaaaaghhhhh!!!
This is the base for my Current Darkstar Astrodynamics Razorleaf build. It just looks wicked, and the parts I'm adding will make it able to go farther and do even more damage than it does now.
Awesome video! Love the RP feel!
You turned that ship into a beautiful monster
I did this on my first playthrough, regretted it and turned the Frontier into the same ship, minus the pirates running away.
I need the contraband. I NEED IT.
Hope to see this added to your Iconic Ships mod via Creations!
I love how it looks I just did everything you did and I love it
I've made my Razorleaf into a hauler, with minor upgrades so far.
Kein Video dazu... Schade

Ah, a little joke on the side:
My Razorleaf plagiarism was based on a [Crimson Fleet] Ghost.

@@ShipTechnician I had build your ship too. As base i used an cheap crimson fleet Scout. Then i built the razorleaf. After this i followed your video. 😀
It was fun too, to communicate with "the key" with RazorLeaf 2.0 Refit as an genuine Crimson Fleet Ship (friendly hail it was).
That ships looks crazy 👀
17:18 I wish you did a color guide for this version of the ship. I love the color scheme. 😄
Always Great! I have adopted many of your techniques 😊 when using EM, which are the Best? and drop which of these 3 Particle weapons? I think its drop PBOs and add the Class B Nullifirer 1750... ?
I think that’s a good trade if you want EM weapons
Going to build up that starship design. Came across the hyena 2 and was mowed down with in seconds.
Wait, so pirates and spacers run when they see this ship? Sounds like a perfect hauler.
Not everytime but often enough
Sometimes they wanna get the cred for taking it out though.
I will build this....if it takes me a year to earn the credit and rank up, this ship will be mine!
I love this thank you for this so much can you do a frontier ship build next ❤
great intro and an overall excellent video 👍
The moment I got those Vanguard Obliterator Autoprojectors stuff just melts when I shoot them.
I need to start playing this again!
I'm picking it back up on the 15th when the update drops.
How did you dupe the landing gear??? I'm unable to do it. Is there like a requirement?
Hello there! Thanks for your efforts. I cant find the "DEIMOS Control Center 2x1". I am level 25 and ship design skill 2. What could be the reason? Thank you
Great video bro 😎
Love this! Will boost the cargo with skill points and perks. I am however, having a hard time seeing how I will ever board a ship again. With all that firepower, it will be hard not to blow it out of space…. I might consider replacing the third type of weapon system with the best suppressors. What is an estimate of overall cost to this design?
Or you put a non automatic ray on the top, so that you don't spam and destroy the ship but you use it to disable the engines 🤓
Cost me about 400k
If you use the targeting skill, you can still take out specific parts of the ship, even if your loadout would normally just obliterate them.
A good improvement, but I don’t see the practical use of a ship without a cargo compartment for no less than 5000. Unless it’s just for the picture. To make it convenient to play, the cargo compartment needs 10,000
Bob would be proud.. I feel like this guy is going to say something about feathering a tree in
Happy ships
Yo that pirate felt the fear of God in him
it doesnt let me duplicate the landing gear pieces, help???
1:35 - We both know that ship carries contraband. Time to board!
Well... now I have to log back in and relearn how to play this game.. because I turned my Mantis ship into the batwing.. LOL.. but it's still not as powerful.. definitely need to make some upgrades.
Thank you 👍👍👍
Been binging your content.
The one I'm currently using has 8(!) crew slots.
before i used to take the mantis and make it a b class, i usually don't change the looks but the main components
and bc i don't like to sacrifice a bed for 8 companions so i always stay on 6 companions and the beds
but lately i take one of the 1st ship's and just upgrade it
I'm about to star a ng+ so i might give it a try, might not use it too much but I'll do it ty!!
Didn't even know that flying the Mantis would give you these speech options lol. The problem IMO is that this game favors flying a single jack-of-all-trades ship vs specializing. There's little use for dedicated fighting or cargo vessels when a single teched-out high-tier ship will get you there as well.
Don’t tell me how to role play!… ;)
I've always thought this too, if I wasn't so lazy I'd have a ship for every occasion, which would be immersive on a RP front, but as it stands, I have one OP former Razorleaf with a massive cargo hold and full compliment of crew, then a bunch of basically useless ships that I picked up on the way gathering dust in the background.
where can you get the deimos cowling and the nova radiators from? I am at 19:16 ion trying to do the last parts, but where can I get all those pieces at the same place?
This is a lot of grinding just to upgrade it like this
Great Video !
Not sure if you’re still playing or making these videos
I just watched your video on engines 👍🏽 on my Xbox
And while I’ve been trying to make a ship that fits me, the Habs are pretty confusing and don’t say which end has a door or not as far as I can tell
I wanted to make straight shots but instead I keep turning my ship into a maze because I can’t tell where the doors for the Hans are
The game does seem to place doors where you wouldn’t want them. There is a mod that allows you to place doors yourself, if you’re interested in such things
Yo Ship!!!
Thanks for responding to me I watch your build videos and you do a great job 👍🏽
How do you change the variants for the landing gear? There's no option for it.
Somebody needs to make this as a replacer for the Razorback's hull
That's a bit excessive. It is difficult to capture ships when vaporizing them. Though, I never found a capitol ship to battle. The pirate faction quest doesn't count.
I would agree, it’s completely excessive :)
great Video :)
I like the build but I had a little trouble with the tail end.
Would you kindly publish the number and names of the habs you used?

Why can't i duplicate the Pinpoint 3G Landing gear???
dude I'm on another playthrough and I have the quest for the mantis (previously I never really used the ship)and I was just going to ignore and do other missions that I've skipped before.....until now hilariously dialogue😂
The 5th and 6th Obliterator cannons are not attaching to the lower section of the grav drive for some reason…
Tanks for IT!
I would prefer to keep Class A, because of a posible Speed of 150! AT Level 43 you can get a Class A Reactor mit 31 or 33 Power. Then IT is for me the best ship. But anyway, IT makes fun, Real fun😊
A B class under 1000 with 4 3015 engines goes 180 and has 100 mobility. B is the sleeper class that outperforms A and C class ships
@@travisbaez8430 this doesen't work since Update in March, afaik.
but u need Pilot level 3 for a class B ship, right?
Can't find that damn Deimos 2x1 control station anywhere
Swap the engines for SAE 5660's at the top of the line for the B engines. You will be able to haul so much more.
Here are two videos that dive deep on engines:

Have you thought about doing a video upgrading the frontier
This video discusses upgrading, and uses the frontier as a base: th-cam.com/video/T74-xqu0Nz0/w-d-xo.html
It’s like the Milano from Guardians of the Galaxy.
And/or build the ship like this one with only two WD3015s:
Extreme Difficulty + Extreme Analytics = Extreme Ship
th-cam.com/video/dbg9vumL1tE/w-d-xo.html
And you can have crew and still get the isolation perk, they just can’t be your “companion.”
And for the cargo space on that tiny ship, you’d have to go into Decorate mode and add physical cargo boxes to the interior of your ship. They wouldn’t function quite the same as true ship cargo, but it can help to somewhat workaround the lack of cargo in these lightweight ships.
@@ShipTechnician The isolationist skill says that you cannot have a companion "or any crew".
I know, it’s very poorly worded. You can have crew on your ship and still get the bonus. They just can’t be active followers. You can easily test it.
the thing is the RazorLeaf is meant to look a certain way. She mentions that in the recordings. its shape is part of of the whole thing.
But still, cool ship.
Can you put in the comments where to get these different parts am having trouble building this and following how your doing it please
Nice build! With no points to expand ship crew size what is the optimum members? I have engine and shield skills maxed out so far on my character.
Great question!
The best crew only requires 4 crew spaces, depending on your ship’s weapons. For a ship with all particle beams, Barrett gives those a boost. Otherwise, you may want to either swap out Barrett for someone else that gives other weapons types a bump, or add an additional crew member.
-Sam for a boost to top speed, an extra engine power point, and his payloads skill
-Omari for extra shield power point
-Andromeda or Vasco for an extra reactor power point (you only get the boost from one, not both, and Vasco is glitchy and gets in the way a lot, so I’d recommend Andromeda)
Barrett for a boost to particle beams
(you can also add Sarah for her Astrodynamics skill which reduces your fuel consumption, but you probably don’t need it if your own character’s skill is maxed, and you don’t want to listen to her complain all the time. She doesn’t count against crew space because of her Leadship skill though, so she kinda doesn’t count).
@@ShipTechnician Thanks! I never realized there were so many possibilities. I never knew all of these recruits were out there till I looked at the wiki
Not gonna lie, I love playing with the mantis ship, but all you need is the cockpit to keep it recognized by the game as the mantis.
I don’t think you even need the cockpit. You can delete every last piece and replace it with something else and it will still be recognized
@@ShipTechnician 🤔 I'll need proof first
@@petepanteraman I've done this on three playthrough's now, there's nothing of the Razorleaf left in my ship, I even renamed it, but I still get Spacers doing the Mantis panic on occasion.
@@tareskisloki8579 good to know, I did the same before bugs got fixed and no one reacted to me being the mantis, so I figured I had to keep some part original.
@@petepanteraman it's a random encounter, so you might go ages without it happening, then get it every second system. The one in this video is rare, the more common one is groups of three, the first will attack you, the other two will recognize you and run.
