  • Check out the install I did of the EPS Tuning PCV delete kit. This kit comes with everything you need to remove the the PCV system on your G37 or 370Z. The kit is completely "plug-and-play" and doesn't require the purchase of any additional products. Big thanks to EPS for producing a great kit!

    This is awesome, Thank you. I can't get over that fact that you put the connecting parts of the zip ties facing up though... it would look so much better hidden and just showed the flat part of the zip

    Thanks man. I just bought an AAM COMPETITION upper intake manifold and this was just the information I needed to go with the install. I just purchased it. $150 upgrade. I have an 08 G37 Coupe. If you are going to install a nice Upper intake manifold you must have this kit. I haven't installed my new intake yet because of knowledge. I'm new to everything and my new intake doesn't even have the ports in the front because it's made for this upgrade. So thank you again. This video really helped me.

    Excellent and informative video! Question: Do those little breather filters ever get oily over time from the PCV vapors? Is is this pretty much an "install it and forget about it" type of mod? I think I'm going to get this kit soon for my 2010 Nismo 370Z. Install should be exactly the same except for the added step of removing the strut brace before you can remove the engine cover.

    Man you're killing the game with videos on these G's. I never have any questions/concerns after I'm done watching. Just ordered my PCV delete kit from EPS Tuning this morning because of you haha. Just waiting till I have my other mods first, then doing it all at once. Maybe a video on the Akebono Big Brake Kit upgrade?? Just a thought!

      Yea, this will really help to decrease the gunk/sludge build-up in the engine. From my experience, the VHR seems to suffer more from this than the HR. When I deleted my PCV system on my 350z, my intake tract wasn't nearly as dirty as my G. Def a mod worth while that will help in the long run.

  • @dinomaxi4951
    @dinomaxi4951 6 ปีที่แล้ว +32

    What most don't realize is, the PCV system also allows vacuum draw on the flimsy oil control ring and 2 compression rings which allows better sealing against the cylinder walls at higher RPM's .This is engine design 101 .If supercharged or turbo charged then this is a good mod,not NA.I run 2 oil catch cans to my PCV valves .To note: some supercharged drag raced V-8 will use the exhaust to pull a vacuum on the engine crank case/piston rings for better sealing at higher RPM's as well.

    • @imsurroundedbyidiocracy
      @imsurroundedbyidiocracy 6 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      There is less and less vacuum as engine load increases which happens as your rpms increase unless you let off the gas and the throttle bodies close which in turn drops the load. This is engine dynamics 101. Additionally while you are correct that drawing a vacuum on the crankcase will help those rings seal the real sealing effect on a road car comes from the combustion gasses applying pressure on them and those gasses making their way down the ring set due to ring gap or nonuniform sealing by the rings against the cylinder. An OEM engine and PCV system will pull only a few PSI on the crankcase and that is only at idle and is really the only measurable place a benefit is seen. Again this vacuum and benefit decreases the higher the load. Only an actual vacuum pump system or exhaust scavenging system that you referred to will draw enough vacuum above idle to cause the event you are referring to. This is easily verified by comparing the vacuum the engine naturally draws vs the pressure that the crankcase experiences from the blowby gasses. Again, engine dynamics 101.
      Lastly a boosted application really needs a catch can setup due to the increase in blow by and using this kit would not be a wise decision as the blowby volume is too great and really needs a can so the oil and water can fall out of suspension into the can.

      You're right it dose not make sense to have an PCV delete on NA motor. 🤔
      One thing it "might" help to do the PCV delete if oil is build up in the intake manifold. I mean still.

    • @kova_motive
      @kova_motive  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, 1 for each side. This won't change oil consumption. If your car is consuming oil, it still will. It will just show up on your filters instead of going back in your intake. If you don't clean the filters regularly, yes, there will be a build-up of oil.

    Are the silicone HPS post MAF tubes worth the buy? Im curious because they look much nicer, but I feel the claims they make aren't truly accurate

    • @SpeedCultureStudios
      @SpeedCultureStudios 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I would say they are worth buying, if you haven't already. I've done a video on this, but I don't think they increase power at all, but combined with a set of high flow drop in filters, they reduce turbulence into the engine making it more efficient. If nothing else, they clean up the engine bay and can reduce heat transfer from the engine to the intake air as silicone is a nice insulator!

      I don't think there would be much of a noticeable difference just with the tubes. But, with the tubes and K&N drop ins, I noticed a slight power increase and better throttle response. HPS and Mishimoto are basically the same design. I would recommend either.

    What made you decide to go this route over catch cans? I've heard about issues with oil residue getting all over in the engine bay with a PCV delete with filters. I'm interested in doing one of these upgrades (delete or catch cans) at some point in the near future, but I'm on the fence as to which. Thanks!

    • @kova_motive
      @kova_motive  7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Thanks for the interest, much appreciated. I went with the delete over a catch can mainly for ease of placement and cost. If you don't have a catch can integrated into your coolant reservoir (can be expensive), you have to find a spot for it and sometimes it can look out of place. With the engine cover on, these are hidden very well and don't stick out. Also, I've had this same delete on my Z for a while and haven't experienced residue getting all over. Plus, with this kit, if you run your engine cover, any residue that may occur will be blocked by the cover and won't get all over your engine bay. Hope this helps!

    I agree that using a pcv delete kit should in theory raise octane rating and reduce knock. But that creates a massive vacuum leak and the cars prolly not running as good as it should and you dont notice it. Also, it will require more force to move the piston down in the cylinder.
    Now for emissions regulations, you will never pass emissions inspection. New vehicles come with pcv system monitors so pcv and evap wont "ready up" for emissions.

    • @kova_motive
      @kova_motive  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      comdawg Not sure about other cars but the PCV system on these cars is not connected to any sensors. Also, its basically a ventilation system that re-routes vented oil/air back into the intake system. Only different is now its venting into the filters/atmosphere instead of the intake system. Doesn't negatively affect the functioning of the engine at all.

    Hi I'm new to your channel...... So I'm not quite clear what are the benefits of deleting your pcv valve? So if this is done. An oil catch can is probably recommended?

    • @kova_motive
      @kova_motive  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Deleting your PCV valve or running catch cans helps to eliminate oil being circulated back into your intake system. This causes intakes, TBs and intake manifolds to get gunked up. Usually you either do a PCV delete OR a catch can, not both.

    This is actually a PCV Question... * See below
    I would love to know your opinion on my VQ37VHR "Infiniti M37" 2012. I HAD a serious Engine sludge Problem "HUGE"! Basically did several serious douche tricks/Flush. Basically a rebuild, so I chose to throw in modern Chemistry and some old school flush... Used 50% diesel fuel in Crankcase. Had P0301, P0340 and YES P0011. Evidently oil-sludge made its way pasts rings on Cyl 1. Replaced plug and checked compression on 1 and She idles great no P0301. I replaced both Camshaft sensors and CPK... also cleaned both solenoids IVT. Vehicle runs great, but still in limp-mode at 3500 RPMs. Its driveable and no hard shifts as long as I DONT HIT 3500 rpm. "Im good with that for now"- Im a Uber driver! I will bench test sensors soon. " Pretty sure its still Sl;udged"
    *My main Question is about PCV system: It started blowing lots of smoke after repairs. I cleaned valves twice kinda worked? Decided valves were trash and decided to plug intake and just remove valves (let it breath) until new valves were delivered. Smoke STOPPED!
    * I just replaced 1 PCV valve (they only had 1 in stock) and it immediately started smoking. I bought valve from Rock Auto "Intermotor # V503". Is the valve defective or is there more to the PCV Problem? Also.... I cant find "shit" about this motor on TH-cam??? I will continue to post and communicate...I'll even do a video when All problems resolved. Please facebook me at (Peppi Manton "Dj earpu5e"). More than happy to give you music and my videos for colab and use messenger. Really need your input? FYI trims are good

    What did this accomplish? Sorry I'm honestly not too familiar with this procedure. Just residue for the intakes?

    • @waugy370z8
      @waugy370z8 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah it keeps the oil residue thats vented from the crankcase from sticking and building up on the throttle body and the air ducts connected to the throttle body. If you look at the throttle body of a car that vents the crank case back into the intake, the front of it will be caked with oil in a sludge type form. I changed mine over around 50,000 miles and im so glad I did. Everyrhing was gummed up with that crap. My car idled smoother also aftwards. And these engines are direct injection so they dont get the gas sprayed into the intake which helps keep this problem under control to a point. Defiantly worth doing.

    • @jacquesc3166
      @jacquesc3166 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@waugy370z8 Lol so much wrong with this comment. Start with understanding that this in fact a port injected engine, not a DI engine. Then look at where the PCV connects into the intake tube. Then understand the actual benefits of a catch can. Changing the TB(s)? What for?! At FIFTY thousand miles??? 🤣

    • @waugy370z8
      @waugy370z8 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      You no longer get the oil residue coating the inside of the intake and building up on the intake valves. Since these are direct injection engines there is no gas spraying on the intake valve like in a port injection engine. Now since car manufacturers are seeing the issues with a pcv system on direct injection engines they're coming from the factory with oil catch cans. Or they now have both direct and port injection.

    That hose should run all the way to the rear of car and a baffled can in between so not to spill drops of oil on road. Becus the filters will clog up later and also those fumes in engine bay are very bad.

      Because they yield very little results for the cost. K&N drop in filters have been proven to net you just as much power in the end as cold air intakes. $100 for filters vs. $400+ for intakes for the same amount of power and throttle response. Easy decision!

    Ventilating to air/ozone is illegal. Leave your PCV valves. Install a 2 double, cheap oil catch cans, with barbed fittings at the drain bottom. Run hoses down to a (Y) fitting then to a valve near bottom pan for draining.
    Put a piece of steel wool in ea. can to prevent splashing.
    After your all done, clean valves. Combustion chamber, piston tops of all the burnt oil and carbon. Then clean the plenum and throttle body as well.
    All of this will save your 02 sensors and cats too. Recommend this for all cars. Even brand new

    The video was put together nicely but this mod makes no difference to power output to an NA engine which I understand wasn't one of your reasons but worth mentioning as well. Since oil will no longer be getting back into the engine , it will overtime get all over the outside of the engine, those filters never really stop the fine oily mist coming from your engine. This mod seems like it's more trouble than what it's worth on an NA engine that is so finicky to begin with all that electronic bullshit everywhere and its tight fitting.
