I totally agree! Well, actually I've always had an obsession with these Original Automatic, New Original Automatic watches (in some materials and colour combos). And I've loved Rado's Tradition square watches like R33017205 and R33019105. But none of their other models. But this takes the cake: That lovely authentic old design at its optimum with the skeletonisation, and it suits the price class too. Perfectly judged!

I was born and raised in the states but I'd spend Christmas Time visiting family in India & Pakistan - and you'd always notice a DiaStar on someone's wrist (it usually meant they were significantly well off ). In that part of the world, the DiaStar collection is widely coveted as a status symbol brand (You'll find Politicians, Celebrities, Business Tycoons, "Elites", etc. from the Indian Subcontinent rocking these.) I'd argue it's probably as heralded as Rolex there [which is nuts]!!! I just received this watch as my wedding anniversary gift and it's definitely a unique design in my collection!

Many men over the age of 50 wear a Diastar Vintage, which they bought when they were young. Some of those I know personally have a fortune of more than CHF 10 million and still wear the Rado. They don't want a typical jewelry watch.
Growing up My dad had a Diastar he loved. So I have a Rado bias. I bought him one for his birthday a few years back and just very recently (within last two months) purchased a Diastar for myself with gorgeous blue dial and those faceted sapphire crystals are really well done. It's a little more modernized but still hits the look just right. That design really is a classic...that Rado is smart to celebrate and continue to develop. You would think the faceted sapphire would hinder legibility but it doesn't and you get awesome light play at oblique angles. Skeletonized or open heart designs can be hit or miss. This one is a hit though. The other Rado models I really like are the Captain Cook's (really interested in getting an Over Pole) and the classic Golden Horse.
I bought their Captain Cook Over-Pole World Timer last year; this is another Rado I really love. Hopefully they have more great releases in the near future!

A lot of their watches and fully made of ceramic (including the actual case), the clasp buckle is made out of titanium and their sapphire crystals are top noch with a lot of them having patented designs (like the Integral line for example).
I don't think I would have given that watch a second look had you not pointed it out. Now, I love it. Such a neat watch. I think its compact size and unique case gives it a vibe no other watch could match.
Watching this wearing my Rado Golden Horse in Green. Love the dial and the bracelet is so comfortable. Also it’s a very thin watch with a really light weight. I agree on some of their design choices though. Some are not appealing at all.

And when they can now make ceramics look so like steel (as opposed to shiny silver mirrors) and many times harder than steel such that it's quite impossible to scratch, it makes complete sense for them to revive the DiaStar series, which is after all all about a very big invitation to scratch -- the bezel.
An additional thing which I didn't hear you mention in my quick spool through of the video: That Rado logo is more than just a logo on their watches with automatic movements. They also serve as "maintenance requirement meters": they spin freely (as you can see in the picture you're showing the logo is nearly upside down), and when they no longer spin that shows you the oil is no longer in good enough shape or plentiful enough, therefore requiring a service. You probably know this but I think it's a cool fact others might like to know. Actually a Rado saleswoman in a Swiss shop of theirs didn't know!
Did you ever get this watch? One thing to mention, that shiny bezel is actually Ceramos (Ceramic+metal).. so it's very scratch resistant while looking like shiny metal.
I have one Rado Dia Star D Original since 2009 is like this model but more sportier with blue dial that was my daily a do everything work, run, swimming, etc. I have to say they resist a hard beating and the beazel never have a single scratch

Liked this case shape for a while but prefer the Original with blue dial and [sadly] vertical daydate .... but I suspect 38mm with that much metal surrounding the glas may be too small for my taste. Great concealed bracelet integration at the endlinks - used by TAG in the F1 also but not seen on many other brands. Not bad prices by current Swiss and even RADO standards either
This watch (and other's in this line), I tell you, will make you fall in love with it once you put it on your wrist. It's a watch that wears like a piece of jewel, and a very acceptable piece of jewel for men.

Very cool! I have a vintage Balboa that I bought 30 years ago and it still works great! Rado make some great watches.

I'm a fan of the Diastar Originals. Very funky. Very distinct. Tungsten alloy bezels (vintage ones are pure tungsten). I like this a lot.

The Diastar is made of tungsten and is heavy as all get out. Plus pretty much scratchproof
It is usually tungsten, but this Diastar's bezel is made of Rado's new cermet called Ceramos (metal+ceramic).
I suggest you do a hands on review of the Diastar. It is an amazing watch.
I have been a Rado fan for many yrs. & it's ONLY under rated for ppl.who doesn't know & for the ones that do know we ❤ it 👍
