Just introduced my brother to Ardbeg for the first time last week. He's always been a JW/Lag fan. He enjoyed it. I don't have the Kelpie in my bar tho 😔🥃
As much as I revere Ardbeg, I can't be the only one becoming jaded at their gimmick of regularly releasing a limited run of unaffordable and impossible to source expressions. And then the consequent scalping in the secondary markets.
Can’t really blame Ardbeg for the secondary market. As for the limited releases, that is the nature of scotch. The base malt is basically the same, Ardbeg 10. However, because of how it is aged, after their regular releases are done, whatever is left is how they plan for the special releases years in advance. They would piss a lot more people off coming up short on their standard releases then a limited.
You must REALLY hate the Buffalo Trace Distillery then. I usually see Ardbeg special releases in the liquor stores for a few weeks when they're first released,... but the 10YO and the Uigeadail are SO good at $50 and &70 that I don't see the need to gamble on the $200+ special releases.
So long as the core range is solid I don't begrudge any distillery their super limited runs. Just because I don't care to drop the fat stack on a bottle I'll finish in two months doesn't mean they shouldn't be taking advantage of fans that will do that

If I remember correctly, the Kelpie is a Celtic mythological creature that is some kind of hybrid between horse and sea creature or water spirit. It's kind of a perfect name for a briney Ardbeg.
This is a cult not a club. My local whisky club did an occasional Gin in summer and Brandy or Rum in holiday time but 10 11 or 12 months of whisky is what a "Whisky club" is about. That they only do whisky means they are a cult, more power to the cult (of whisky)
Just a small fyi: Kelpie is a spirit/demon in Scottish folklore... It often as appears as a black stallion (sometimes with a fishtail)... Not really important, just think its a nice tidbit of info... "We could do a year's worth of big brands and never run out." Cue summer 2021. Also, tried my first Ardbeg this weekend - Wee Beastie. Still no comparison to Laphroaig 10 (first bottle last month), especially at the same price.

HI Rex & Daniel, i have been watching your channels for years now. I have enjoyed few bottle on your review sugest which were amazing (Laphroaig, Lagavulin, Hibiki etc.). But I have an question for you. You are tasting whiskey around the world, why did you not yet try a whiskey from my country Slovakia, Nestville ? :-) I think you will like it ;-)
Daniel I have a hypothetical for you. Lets say I distilled some bourbon and aged for a year in a new oak barrel here in the US. Then I shipped the whiskey over to Scotland and then finished it in scotch barrels for lets say 20 years or so. Would it still legally be bourbon if the whiskey was shipped back and bottled here. Im assuming yes cause of Jefferson ocean. I understand this is a mostly impractical situation but Ive always wondered how bourbon would taste if it had a long time to age in a moderate climate like scotch.
Bourbon guy, not a scotch guy. However, the reviews and notes and everything about Ardbeg sound so interesting that I’d really love to try it. Any suggestions for a first-time Ardbeg drinking? And does anyone know if it’s easy to find in Minnesota?
Daniel, I have a question that I don't know who to ask other than you. I was drinking Ardbeg Corryvreckan last night with dinner. It was a fantastic pairing of the Ardbeg and a big bowl of chicken tortilla soup. The Ardbeg was delicious as always. However, when I added a bit too much hot sauce to the soup, all of a sudden there was no more smoke or earthiness on the palate but it was totally fruity (dark fruit) and sweet. I still got the smoke and damp earth/leather notes on the nose. It was bazaar but really cool. What happened to my tongue with the spicy food that blocks all of those flavors in the scotch? Also, I want to watch an episode where you guys eat a ton of really crazy spicy food and then give tasting notes on things. I think that might be pretty funny
With all the whiskey in the vault, and the droplets of whiskey splattered around from shaking out the glasses, I wonder what the vault smells like. I’d love to see an analysis of the nose of the vault.

Can you guys maybe feature a video involving whiskeys thatre more pleasant after adding some water, or maybe even ice? I understand taste is subjective but it would still be fun to see
