      We had a food truck in NC (The Pig and Cow, Inc) where we made a "Sweet Elvis" sammich, basically peanut butter & banana on raisin bread, drizzled with honey and sprinkled with powdered sugar after grilling like a grilled cheese- It was a huge hit.

    I reviewed the Dewar's "Ilegal Smooth" Mezcal Finish when it was first released and I really liked it. Its not the most complex thing in the world but very enjoyable. I also compared it to an Ilegal Mezcal Reposado and the Dewars definitely has a Mezcal presence. A great buy for only $23.

  • @ilikejelloyay208

    I love tequila and mezcal.
    My understanding is that tequila IS a variety mezcal. All tequila is mezcal but not all mezcal is tequila.
    Both are agave-based but tequila must be at least 51% blue agave and has stricter preparation standards. Mezcal only needs to be at least 51% agave (any variety) and has less strict preparation standards.
    Kinda like there are american whiskies and there are bourbons. All bourbons are american whiskies but not all american whiskies are bourbon.

      you are correct

    • @joel29585
      @joel29585 4 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      Might be wrong on this, but I also think there are regional requirements too. Like Tequila can only be made in (a) certain state(s), namely Jalisco where the city of Tequila is located.

    • @TheRpettit84
      @TheRpettit84 4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@joel29585 Correct Tequila must come from a specific region and agave. Tequila is pretty much a Mezcal made by those standards

    • @abrahamelias95
      @abrahamelias95 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes indeed, as a mexican I can tell you are correct. Tequila comes from agave azul and must be made in specific parts of jalisco. Mezcal can be any type of agave even wild ones and must be made in certain parts of México as well, its a bigger list than tequila, but not all of Mexico

    • @ckc1966
      @ckc1966 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@abrahamelias95 is there a requirement to smoke the agave as Daniel implied, for it to be Mezcal?

  • @SuvinRK
    @SuvinRK 4 ปีที่แล้ว +7

    Mezcal also uses other species of agave in production while tequila uses only blue agave.
    Edit: For those interested in exploring mezcal, I would recommend joven over reposado because there's more flavors to explore with joven. Reposado while enjoyable seems to come up short compared a joven, imo.

    because Ilegal is my favorite Mezcal, buying it sight-on-scene was a no-brainer... I absolutely LOVED it! Having tried all three just now I can confirm that the PORT SMOOTH is the best by far. Still gives off a bit of smoky "spice" but much rounder and complex as a Rum or Mezcal cask-finished whisky. It reminds me of Penderyn Welsh port (although the SHERRY finish Penderyn is the best IMO) without the price tag.

  • @MSB-fj7cd

    To me there's something about Mescal that always reminded me a little like Scotch. I guess it's the smoke, the earthiness, and a slight taste of iodine.

    I'm 56 now, and I've been a fan of pb & banana since as far back as I can remember (and *many* of my friends are/were, too).
    I even started making *'grilled'* peanut butter sandwiches (made same way as a grilled cheese) as a kid, right up to nowadays, and would once in a while put banana in that too...tastes great (especially if you throw in some bacon as well)

    Long time viewer first time commenter but the Elvis sandwich is not just peanut butter and bananas, which I would agree is super common. His sandwich was peanut butter, grape jelly, banana, and bacon, which is then grilled, it was also huge, taking a pound of each inside a whole loaf of French white bread. As I write this I realize this sandwich should be made on the tribe channel then try to pair it with a whiskey.

    Peanut butter and banana on lightly toasted bread is a fantastic sandwich.

    Not only have I had several peanut butter and banana sammiches, I've come up with my Asian Elvis impersonator...an egg roll stuffed with chunky peanut butter and banana, then deep fried and dusted with powdered sugar. Dip in melted chocolate, honey or caramel to take it over the top.
