    The whole 6.0 'powerchoke' hate was settled eons ago. lol EGR delete, head studs..etc etc. Do the right mods and the 6.0 is bullet proof. In fact, that's what they call it. The ironic thing is 'Power Choke' is actually pretty accurate for a stock 6.0 due to the F'ed up EGR system that came on it.
    I'm a Cummins fan too and you were cool about the fanboyism, but the Ford 6.0 is actually a very desirable engine.

    when your 6.0 isn't down for stupid broken stuff, the V8 gives it a nice power band over a long range. The VGT gives you that boost at lower RPM so you get close to the lower end power of the cummins i6. It pulls great and has excellent throttle response. When mine is running, I LOVE the way it drives.

    My buddy has a 6.0 Excursion, bulletproofed and hotrodded. We all told him NOT to buy the damn thing in the first place- and that's coming from a Ford man (who admittedly has a love/hate relationship with Ford). He went against the advice of 5 of his friends and got the damn thing anyway, lol. I'm not gonna lie though, it is pretty awesome in the performance category, and I enjoyed driving it. There's just way too many technical issues with the design in the first place to make me ever own one, unless of course, it was free...
    Ford made the better truck chassis, body, axles, and transmissions in those years, and still do IMO. The 5R110 and 6R140 are great transmissions. The 2nd gen Dodge was an older design underneath, and it shows. I do like them however, and they were good looking trucks, especially in dually form. I haven't been in one lately that didn't have a giant hole in the middle of the dash, and CAD axles and non-selectable hubs are not my thing. They clearly got the best engine out of the bunch. I'm building a 12 valve for my '83 F-250 right now.
    Sound- we've still got a 7.3 Superduty, and I love it. 7.3 PSD is my favorite pickup diesel for engine sound (not necessarily exhaust), and the older IDI a close 2nd. Detroit 2 strokes beat them all in the cool sound department, for me anyway. The EPA just has to ruin everything good.

    Ive work on most of them and from my experience the lack of education and lack of doing the best attention to detail covering all the bases in the job is hyper critical with all of them including quality parts, there are a lot of crap parts in the industry.
    The 6.0 needs the 10w30 motorcraft diesel oil because its hydraulic rated oil for the hpop. Failure to use that will effect the injectors leading to sticking in addition, the hpop damaging conventional oil is a prelude to premature lifter needle bearing failure cam and engine destruction, I have a 6.0 here now that happened to they were running rotella.
    Deleted and running motorcraft diesel oil They have been reliable for me.
    the Cummins is super critical to have a pro machine shop resurfacing the head perfectly flat.
    I've seen guys spend loads of time and money on the isuzu 6.6 and the common rail Cummins but they don't usually talk about it.
    My neighbor blew his (completley) bone stock 07' duramax within 49k miles.
    Imo they be all obsolete consumer grade compromised engineered to fail.
    with the options I'd take the Cummins the allison transmission in the ford chassis with manual shift 4x4 case.
    Technology in the 1880's opoc was more efficient reliable but heavy.
    it was perfected in 2007-09 by navistar with their (eco motors em100 engine) that was sold to zhong ding holding corporation of China for $360 million.

      I use Schaefer’s 5/40 with 2 shots of rev ex. I also have oil bypass filtration to 2 microns. I change the oil and both stock and bypass filters every 3000 miles. No problems going on 144000 miles. I believe using a hydraulic rated oil would be good, because the high pressure system shears the oil. These engines I’ll not tolerate extended oil changes.

    • @fiveninesweptline
      @fiveninesweptline 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      They don't need 10W-30. Conventional oil isn't an issue, although I would always choose a quality synthetic. As for you saying "the Cummins is super critical to have a pro machine shop resurfacing the head perfectly flat"...yeah...that can literally be said for anything...

    • @joshuaquilliam2887
      @joshuaquilliam2887 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yes they all certainly have their issues. Duramax platform loves to snap crankshafts for no reason, even stock they just randomly snap. They have glass pistons, and powder metal rods that at least bend and not snap like the common rail Cummins. I love my Cummins, and for the most part the 3rd gens are great trucks. I only wish Chrysler would have used real steal instead of recycled Bud cans that rust if you look at them wrong. Like everything in life morons tend to have the loudest mouth. So they screw up something and it's the trucks fault. They go down to Advance auto and buy injectors for their common rail, and it melts down, it's the junk truck. They can't read an owners manual but it's the trucks fault. Stupidity is seriously at epidemic levels today.

    Let’s be honest. The only redeeming quality on the Rams are the Cummins because of how easy they are to work on. You slap the 5.0 V8 Cummins in the rams today and it wouldn’t sell, they’re not easy to work on compared to the i6.

      Very true, the Nissan Titan's with the 5.0 V8 Cummins are not flying off the shelves so to speak. We're keeping our eyes on the new 3.0L Inline 6 cylinder Duramax they're loading up in the new Chevy/GMC trucks, vans, and SUV's. The belt driven oil pump is a little scary, but if they prove reliable, would be a great platform for compound turbos!!!

Now to PowerStrokes -- the 6.0 has/had one major issue, and that was it ate head gaskets. You have to stud the heads. THE best person in the PowerStroke world, would probably be Bill Hewitt @ PowerStroke Specialties in Buford, GA. BTW: the 6.4's are POS, since this is when International found out that Ford was building their own diesel , which became the 5.7. NOW, how do I enter the contest ??
