    Same thinking here, I've always had newer vehicles and was about to buy a 2020 Ram 2500 Limited ($75K). Instead I bought a 2007 F-250 Outlaw edition for $15K with 137K miles, I've put about $7K into it thus far and will do another $6-7K next year to finish it off (studs, injectors, turbo, glow plugs, cab mounts..etc). At the end of the day I'll have a lot more truck for less than half the price...and no payments. Loving the truck

    Im a Ford diesel mechanic 14+ year. I drive a 2006 6.0 with 250k had it since 85k. The bad rap the 6.0 gets it’s cause buy bad mechanics that don’t know what they are doing and/or people using aftermarket filters. And bad services. If you use Ford filters and proper maintenance you can’t beat them for work and towing. I beat the crap out of mine all the time and it is a awesome work horse.

    It’s interesting... I have an 04 that I bought with 112k in 2015. Now has 185k. Over the years, I’ve replaced the hpop, 4 injectors, and the oil cooler (added coolant filter at that time). Not studded. Pulls and stops our 13k pound fifth wheel with ease. My dad bought an 03 with 109k and had the exact same issues soon after buying it. Now has 220k. Pulls his 26 foot camper (not sure of weight) with ease. Both trucks are deleted, no tuners, 5k synthetic oil changes, 10k fuel filter changes. Point is after we installed the revised parts and kept up with maintenance we’ve had no issues. You’re right about the 6.0 community. Often, issues are somewhat simple to resolve. Neither of us spent more than $12k for our trucks. We’ve each put $7500 or so in to them if you include things like ball joints, brakes, alternators, etc. A new one is $60-80k. Ours are paid for and look/drive excellent so, even if we have to drop $10k to do major overhauls, we’re good with that. That’s less than a year of payments on a new one.

    I was gifted one of these for my 17th birthday. Dad went out and found a 2006 with 272,000 miles on it, and paid $8000. Had 4x4, a lift, fancy wheels, these gaudy reupholstered ostrich leather seats, and more. It definitely looked cool to a 17 year old. But it was in the shop a total of 4 times- one for the high pressure oil pump, second to replace the turbo Y pipe, third was after the FICM got fried , and the 4th visit to the diesel doctor was for a bad injector. The final straw was when a piston committed suicide. My dad got tired of paying for it so he told me it was either sell it and find something else, or I’d have to start footing the bill every time it took a shit. Turns out the truck had been repo’d twice before (so if they weren’t making the payments you know they didn’t do maintenance on the damn thing ever) and the guy who owned it before us was a young guy who used it as a construction work truck and had some psycho tuner plugged in. Which explained all the problems. Anyway, I got rid of it for what it was worth, and bought another 6.0, this time an 03, that an old guy bought brand new and treated it like it was his child. The stack of maintenance receipts was thicker than a bible. The earlier 6.0s have a reputation for being the worst ones, but I had ZERO problems with it for a few years before growing up and deciding I needed something more practical. Goes to show they are great trucks if you know they were treated well in the past, and you continue proper maintenance.

      if you live in ga, buy one from a salvage yard for like 3 or 4k and send it to powerstroke specialty in buford ga and have them rebuild it. theyll redo everything and youll be less than 20k into it total and have basically a brand new vehicle

    • @MadLadCustoms
      @MadLadCustoms 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      First thing to check on a "bulletproof" is the most important part which is the studs. You can see the bolts or studs in the engine bay.

    • @MadLadCustoms
      @MadLadCustoms 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If they pulled the heads and did the studs, there would be no excuse to replace everything else problematic since they're only a few extra bolts away on a torn apart engine

    I found one, guy says it's bulletproof and it's got a new ipr system along with other stuff he's done. It sounds REALLY strong and yeah, I can see some of the aftermarket piping on it but he didn't zoom in in the video. He's asking 7500 but I plan to offer him 5 cash. At that price, I'm more than comfortable. 215k miles on it so it seems to be doing pretty good. Once I verify he's got all the paperwork and such, no idea if he's done the egr if not I will cuz fuck them stupid ass things. I'm praying this is actually on the up n up cuz I need a daily driver for work. And at that price, God forbid, but if something goes wrong I can fix it or again seriously God forbid the engine dies, I can just do a cummins and allison swap. I'd rather keep something and upgrade it than get rid of it and be out of a daily driver. Besides, gotta get to and from work in order to make money and get my 68 charger.

The high oil pressure pump stc fitting went out but there’s an upgrade fitting for it . But since I was there I just put a new pump with the upgraded fitting . Pump is only a few hundred bucks & while I was doing that I also did all the upgraded dummy plugs on the oil rail . Pretty simple upgrades and maintenance & love my truck .
