- We're upgrading a 2006 F250 6.0l Power Stroke with our Power Stroke Performance Package. While we're upgrading this Power Stroke, we thought we would compare it to a 2nd gen Cummins we have at the shop to help you decide which truck to buy.
Next see how our Power Stroke power package takes this stock truck from 338hp up to 528hp, and holding it better.

There is definitely a reason the prices are not as inflated in the 6.0’s lol
cause they have a bad name, despite being a actual extremely good engine.
@@cs-gj3yf extremely good engine with bad reliability
Only bad when they are not maintained or are owned by a diesel fanboy.
@@repairvehicle Not really, they are known for head gasket issues, that issue has had a cheap easy fixable solution since the truck was basically new
Having completely go through one from bare block to fully assembled there are nuances. It wasn’t a great engine for untrained technicians it can be harder to properly diagnose. My 2003 has been fantastic. The transmission is great. They are good for the guy who wants to do the wrench time and has some time. They can be a PITA to work on unless you pull the engine and cab. I would recommend studs and O ring heads. Normal deletes.
The nice thing about the 12v Cummins is the lack of wiring. As far as I know, if you have a manual transmission, a cable ran to manually actuate the fuel shutoff, and can roll start it, you can literally drive without any electrical input because everything is mechanical.
Theres videos online on how to do it, its pretty rad and maybe something I might wanna do later on to let it be pure mechanical 12v but still with output sensors. I like my data, but as far as the engine goes to have it be that simple would be awesome
My 95 ram Cummins had a fuel shut-off solenoid crap out. Nothing for a twist wire to keep it on!
Mine has a cable for fuel shut off , never thought of it that way lol
I did literally exactly this when I first bought my 12v. No battery, no wiring left to speak of, choke cable to pull in shutoff, (used 5th gear and dumping clutch for a full year to shut it off). Seriously broke days for me, definitely shouldn’t have bought it on my income at the time but it never let me down. Still have the old girl. Working on getting her fixed up proper finally
Love the 6.0 trucks, they are very underrated. The problem is you look at them wrong and the cab has to come off.
What does the cab have to come off for? I've swapped turbos to injectors and r&r engines without removing the cab.

Take the ford, remove boat anchor and insert Cummins. It’s a win win!
The 6.0 is just one oil seal away from leaving you on the side of the road.
The Cummins however will run on pretty much any oil and make 400+ hp doing it. They also last for just about ever as long as the kdp is addressed and the oil is changed.
Making a kit to mount the batteries under the frame rail with a cable reroute kit, would go a long way to gain some real-estate under the hood.
It sounds like the ford was a pavement princess, plus it’s like 10 years newer, of course it’s going to look nicer.
and its still cheaper, look at a pavement princess dodge vs a ford
@@cs-gj3yfyeah it’s crazy!
All I want is a simple mechanical or common rail diesel engine with simple electronics that can tow good get good mpg and be reliable and made to be rebuilt
Owned an 05 6.0 6spd and there’s a reason we have all 6.7 Cummins now
Why
@@Rhino5.0cause 6.0s are garbage😂
All that and no regulated return? Haha love your stuff.
I'll stick with my afclive 5.9 12 valve with a new dash and replacement seats from genos. 300k miles and still pulling a 20k lb trailer.
6.0L powerstroke ford perform incredibly well once they have been built. They even perform pretty well stock as long as they are maintained and not tuned to unreasonable levels. They sound amazing
Awesome job
Thanks!
Where are you getting the $12k price for the 6.0? Everyone's asking 20k plus for their Fords these days. That's why I went with a 7.3 lol. I have a 500hp 7.3 lowered on air suspension and I have less money in it than a stock 6.0 goes for
Ive had both and own both the 6.0 in my opinion is great for a good sleeper build maybe towing if built right they dont take much to make big power the only issue is the preventive maintenance work thats needed but yet again high hp you can throw reliability out the window now the cummins on the other hand has the tourqe great for towing it’s stupid simple and is more cost efficient than the powerstroke now i love both and wouldn’t trade either for anything although the 6.0 is in the garage at the moment with the heads off 👀 its gettinng some power thrown at it
600hp 6.0s are a lot of fun till you start eating torque converters and tranny's or the rod's start to walk! LOL
An upgraded torque converter goes along way in making the trans issues minimum.
Not taking the Cummins swap on them is crazy
Exactly!
I see them felpro head gaskets they are pretty good for these engines. I won’t put one back together without O rings if it’s gonna be tuned or ran hard.
Facts!
It would of been nice to get more info on the parts that where put on the truck . I would of also liked to see before and after torque #'s.
Id take the 2nd gen any day
How to make a 6.0 last lower the hp get rid of all the egr stuff and put head studs in it and better exhaust.
I remember having a 6.0, and I’m not going back, truck cost more in parts in 30k miles as a service truck than all of the parts we’ve put into dodge service trucks combined. Broke so damned much
my dad taught me if its cheap theres a reason
So I have questions about cummins performance and mpg . Where can I ask them to get good responses? Don't want to get lost in a Ford dodge comparison. Thank you
Give us a call!
6.0 after 2005 should be rated around 375hp crank, 7.3 is 325hp crank in the last years.
Out of curiosity, what kind of power numbers would you get out of a Cummins if you installed a ported head, injectors, a manifold, big turbo and tuning? Could you make more than 500hp?
Depends on the year and if it is an auto or manual?
Yep the 6.0 and 6.4 ford are a good deal for a Cummins swap👍
That’s a 18-25k dollar 6.0 in Tennessee
For real! Trucks in Tennessee right now are super expensive.
They are good looking trucks, look comfortable, and they are the cheapest of the diesels. It does suck when you look at a clapped out beat up 2nd gen ram and it's like $10k. Only good thing is that would only take a few hundred dollars to get whereas the ford has to get the whole cab pulled and parts are so much more expensive. Also far more complex as you guys know.
Hell, I've never looked at how hard just doing valve cover gaskets are on the 6.0, but they probably aren't as easy as vc gaskets should be.
All u need to do on a 12v is what you did in your double hp video to the engine on a 6.0 like 6-8k$ for engine stuff which is crazy and still will blow head gaskets
Just wait till that 25 cent dummy plug o-ring tears and leaves you stranded on a 15 percent uphill grade
Do you recommend towing with 190/30 injectors paired with a kc stage 2 or would i be asking for trouble. Have a 6.0 with 155/30 and a stage 2. Its a little laggy and id love more power but need to pull my 5th wheel.
With good tuning I would have no problems towing with that turbo and injector combo. I have the same turbo on my excursion with stock injectors and with the tuning it is very responsive.
@pddofficial man thanks for that. Now i need some injectors
How did he get remote start on the 6.0?
I spent 1 yr fixing up a 95 12v to sell. 200k miles. Body beat up and paint issues. Sold on eBay 4 times. Never got paid. So the first guy that showed up with cash got it. Not even 4k. 4wd
"I'm a Cummins guy" -drives a trailblazer!
OMG when he pulled the frame just to work on the engine......not practicle for your every day garage build. Cummins ALL THE WAY!
6.0 Ford upgrade commercial. lol
Here from fsm garage
It’s definitely easier to find a nice Ford truck vs a Ram. And a 6 liter especially, since everyone’s so dang paranoid about them, haha. But if you know what you’re doing, they’re terrific engines.
Couldn't agree more!
Damn, 10 grand to make 200 more hp that’s terrible lmao
yeah, i was hoping for more given the upgrades and labor (albeit free for the owner). I own a 6.0 and I would have asked for a Fummins conversion. Not that the owner cares as the truck has sentimental value but that would give him the best performance value for the investment.
There is a reason the 6.0s are cheaper lol
Great content!!! Kinda unfair to compare the powerstoke on the dyno even on street tires. Easily a $30,000+ Cummins build vs $10,000 in mild upgrades on the 6.0. Also unfair to compare a 1994 second gen vs a babied, washed weekly, 2006 with probably half the miles on their body condition and interior. Good pot stirring technique though. Again great content nonetheless
Thanks
I turned down an 08 f250 4x4 with only 50,000 miles for $15,000. It was really nice but I was just too scared of the horror stories.
6.4 is scarier than a 6.0 they can trash themselves beyond overhaul. When they run they run hard.
That is the best decision of your life
What size injectors and what size KC was this?
190/30 and KC stage 2
I got a 6.0 12 grand plus antther 12 to make it reliable 😅😅
Did you guys put a new cam shaft in it
No we did not.
Yeah I’m doing lifters if it’s high mileage.
I was wondering if they changed the campprofile. And just started with a brand new cam .I really like all their videos
it was deassed two times a week , found on road dead ,come on there is nothing like a chevy, or a guy mans chevy , gmc
Cummins " mumumumumumum.
Power stroke rahrahrahrahrah.
Detroit 6.5 clakclakclingclongclakclak
I just bought a 2000 k3500 with Detroit. I live in the salt belt, so it was, Cummins, F250 or GM. Truck only has 122000km. 75000 miles.
The only thing good in a dodge is the thing that wasnt made by dodge 😂
That ford cost more then the Dodge in my area.
Serious question, how much would it cost to make the same power in a 12v as opposed to a 6.0?
I had a 6.0 and I spent about $20 grand (with labor) and ended up with 500hp and 900ftlbs at the wheels. And had nothing but problems with the truck. Warren Injection is a absolute HORRIBLE company to work with. They guaranteed there was nothing wrong with my injectors, (sent them back 3x) and I literally spent thousands changing other parts to find a high pressure leak in the o rings. (Hot no start)
Just seems like for the amount of money you could do a cummins swap and have something more reliable for less money.
Take off the cab to work on the engine, shoulda swapped for the cummins
Just need a zipper between the cummins and dodge transmission
Taking off the cab was a stricken of genius by Ford. If you have ever done it you know what I am talking about. It’s beautiful engineering.
@@ouimetco That's nice and all if you have a lift.
@@Ka_Gg I actually don’t but use a fellow with a small picker truck to lift on and off. But yes at home without that would be difficult. The cans not heavy just large. It takes about 1-1.5 by hand to get all disconnected. Afterwards, like i said, everything is supper easy to access including trans, transfer case, fuel tank, driveshafts….cheers man
@@ouimetco yeah I'm not completely against these trucks but as you stated you need some type of way to lift the cabm just not feasible for everyone.
Also, let's say you installed an o-ring incorrectly. Well, now you have to remove the cab again.
Ford cost more then the dodge in my state
10 years newer and babied any truck would look like that that old dodge seen alot more hard miles
im a second gen ram guy typically but have been starting to lean towards this era of ferd. a few friends have them. the actual truck is pretty good. better dana 60, its a king pin design without stupid unit bearings and a lame vacuum center axle disconnect, they almost always have less rust, the electronics usually last better, can get 1 ton single rear wheel vs second gen ram 1 tons all dually, less leaks, the HVAC system is better, interior better appointed and more comfortable. the only thing id change is the powertrain. not because the 6.0 is an unreliable piece of shit impossible to work on, but i flat out hate the sound of them and 6.4s. im also a little old school where i actually like 12 valves and having to tune them manually. they can make tons of power and in the process you end up knowing the engine back to front. 12 valves are the easiest diesel engines to work on, no need to have to delete a stupid egr or def system either. just spend 1k on a 62 to 66mm turbo, 600 on some injectors, 400 on studs, google all the free injector pump/afc stuff to turn up the fuel, add timing, gov springs are under 100 bucks, valve springs and seals are 200 bucks, couple fresh fuel lines with banjo delete for AN fittings, chuck a chevy small block valve spring in the stock lift pump, basically 2500 bucks and a weekend and you can be over 500hp and more importantly, around 1000lbft of torque. reliably. not 200k miles reliable, like 500k miles.
Uhhhh super duty Dana 60s don't have king pins and they do have unit bearings. Otherwise I agree with ya mostly also 01-03 you're likely to get a Dana 50 not a 60
2000tq? That has to be wrong lol
Your talking a 90s truck vs a mid 00s like cmon now
The 6.4 is the truck no one wants. The 6.0's are starting to get known about.
To me ford's are cheaper cause the powerstrokes can't compete with a cummins when it actually comes to work.... I'm no diesel mekanik but after driving both for work the cummins eats the powerstroke alive
All you had to say is youre a cummins fan.
The fords nice but only dodge for me I’d never own one I’m a mechanic and I work on way more Ford pickups then dodges. Ford gives u no room to work and the way they stuff and hid things is unbelievable !!! It is not funny one bit
I own a 7.3 and a 5.9, the Cummins cost me way less to make power and it holds it better than even that 7.3 I have. You couldn’t pay me to drive a 6.0 ferd over a Cummins of any year.
Super dutys are the most popular trucks so naturally youll work on more of them.
@@jmak03cobra66 that don’t make them any easier to work on. I know let’s pull the cab to make it easier so sad
Buyer beware. You say you're working on a compound kit for the 6.0 Ford. And you are giving away a compound kit in this months giveaway. I bought and paid for a compound kit during Thanksgiving 2022. I am still waiting for it. How about you guys get off your collective tails and ship me the compound kit you owe me. It has been 10 months since I ordered my kit. You guys got all of the money for it. All I have received are broken promises. I was told 2 Thursdays ago it was going to ship on Monday or Tuesday. I still don't have it. Hey Todd and Wille are you guys aware of this. I have done a lot of business with you over the years. I used to like you guys. The bad company reviews are coming until I get my compound kit. Buyer beware.
Hi Gary, your compound kit has shipped already and you should have tracking. I'll resend it to you just in case. Of course, none of this was intentional. If we haven't already explained the issues we've had with the supplier of our piping kits, we'd be happy to get on the phone with you to explain. We credited back 10% of the kit a few months ago as a thank you for waiting. We hope you enjoy the kit and that it was worth the wait. We are doing everything possible to ensure this never happens again.
Compound kit update. I received the kit I ordered Thanksgiving weekend 2022 last Friday 9-15-2023. I called PDD every couple of months to get a delivery update. It came via UPS. The packaging was impressive. I inventoried the contents against the packing list and the order looks complete. I will give an update after I install the kit.
@@garycullarhow is it??
Duramax is better than the 6.0 for hot rodding in my opinion
The 6.0 is not a big block
I’d still take my clapped 2g all day over a 6.0
why a KC turbo? Titan Turbos out perform in every way
We would be happy to do some back to back testing.
Hahaha it is after all a ford
Found on Russian Dump! My 12 Ram Cummins will dance circles around tbat ford. Never had a dead battery, always started I always take care of my vehicles! My interior looks better than that fOrD , if you yank a Ram out of the Crusher just before they push the button its going to look like crap!
Is the goal of this video to get people upset.. the worst sounding diesel ever made. lol
Hahaha 6.0 is a joke engine. If you want to be left on the side of the road it’s a great buy.
ANSWER: 6.7 CUMMINS
But its a Ferd!
The 6.0 is pretty much the worst engine ever make!
