My wife and I are now 75 n 76 yrs old and every time this song comes on she gets up and dances like she's 20 yrs old is terrific and I'm playing the drums on the table like I know what I'm doing thank you Bruce for a great song

My dad's favorite song. We used it with proud and respect at his funeral a month ago, in church. He was suffering from Alzheimers, but every time I played this song, a big smile appeared on his face.

I am so thankful to all of you and your kindness. I will still dance with Bruce to the last breath. I pray everyone will stay healthy, happy and look forward to the next day with all of its beauty around you.

I agree with you. I am also an old skool R&b and hip hop lover but this song is great. I grew up listening to Bruce as both my Mum and Dad went to most of his concerts in the UK so I heard him playing in our house often. Good music is good music
This is the song that awoke me in difficult times. I mirrored myself in the lyrics, it truly described how I felt and what I was going through in such a personal, clean and profound way. It made me feel understood, not alone, I used to listen to it before I had a test at university, before a great event, when I was feeling extra happy, when I needed a boost of strenght or when I was feeling like shit. It's mesmerizing to me how this tune can convey such different messages and talk to everyone. It still inspires me not to give up on anything. This song is truly magical and I think it will always be my favourite. Thanks Springsteen.

Almost impossible to believe, I was at that show in June 1984 at the St Paul Civic Center, Bruce played that song 3 times in a row to get all the footage needed, he was so apologetic and we just didn’t care! The crowd went wild when he pulled that girl on stage to dance, we didn’t know she was planted there or that 10 years later, she would become Monica on Friends. Now I watch this and I feel like I’m there again.

What a brilliant person... Was working.... Only labouring at his concert in Manchester England.... He done about 2hour set no warm up band just him... And after he Finnished... Walking past us lot waiting to drop the rig and stage... He look at every one in and the eye and said... "thanks I couldn't do this without you"... The boss man!!!
I was at this concert at the St Paul Civic Center. They played/filmed it twice to get everything right. Bruce apologized between the two and thanked us for our patience. Great memories.
seriously historic to witness that... I'd be honored if some fans of classic 80s rock anthems would take a listen to my acoustic piano & vocal performances of EYE OF THE TIGER by Survivor and DANCING IN THE DARK by Bruce Springsteen on my YT channel in tribute to the era of legendary power ballads. Live acoustic with no autotune. Stay safe and keep on rocking in the '020s.
I love how hopeful this song is. Even though he's struggling and wants to escape his life, it's still triumphant and beautiful. About reaching for something else, wanting more from your life and being honest about your struggles. Also the character may be considered a loser, they are willing to set themselves on fire for some movement and excitement in their life- it's revolutionary
I concur, really cool synopsis. I know the boss has said this song was about himself after his record dealer forced him to make another hit single, after Bruce said he didn’t want to. So of course being pissed off, he wrote it and you def see his frustrations come out as he’s stuck there sitting around trying to write this down
This song fills me with a massive amount of energy and inspiration. The beat, the voice and watching his moves on stage is just something else. What a legend he is
This song came out right around the time I graduated High School. Now I'm 57. Lot of tears between then & now, lot of heartbreaks. This song, and others, helped get me thru...
My brother had a best friend who was a exact image of Bruce in his prime in 1984 when this song was in the charts. Swear to God I melted every time he knocked on our door!
The Boss was an absolute class act. He stayed true to his roots, a working man and never forgot it and he played hard rock for hard living people. Now I am 77 - same age as Bruce - and I watch these videos on YT and explain to my Thai wife in Thai what the Boss is singing and she relates. Music is universal and rock n roll music was revolutionary then and it is fabulous now.
I always felt the same way since first hearing this years ago. Music has a way of allowing for communication that is of a higher form than linguistics and this song is a prime example of that. The earnest desperation of life’s struggles and the angst and yearning that comes with it is greatly expressed here. The rhythmic beats, poetry, sounds have a way of expressing this far more accurately than words ever could. Sentences and speech we just a means to an end and a rather ineffective one at that. Music does it better. It’s a strong plea of desperation and also expresses the emptiness and void of “dancing in the dark” that can seem inescapable.
I'd be honored if some 80s fans would take a quick listen to my acoustic piano & vocal YT performances DANCING IN THE DARK by Bruce Springsteen and PURPLE RAIN by Prince in tribute to 2 American musical legends. Live acoustic with no autotune. Peace and stay safe in the '020s.
66yrs old and still this song gives me goosebumps. It takes me back to the carefree, good times. I'm dancing again now like a teenager. Thankyou Bruce. You're making me smile again.
This song is one of my favorites to this day since it came out when I was 6yrs old. My Dad would turn it up,we would sing at the top of our lungs, and dance together. My Dad is now gone 7 yrs and every time I listen to this song it brings me to tears, but also wonderful memories.❤ Especially, if it was on the radio and we were at a red light. Since, tinted windows were not a thing, everyone could see us singing our hearts out. Dancing too.
Thanks for taking time out of your busy life for the reply. I hope you have a long, prosperous, & happy life! I listen to your music while hiking, working, & my daily chores. I get wired feeding off your intensity. Keep on rocking 😎 👊 👍 🎵 🎶 🎵 🎶
Like someone wrote before. This song is bittersweet for me. My mother’s favorite Springsteen song. 12 years ago, she was sick in the hospital and I went out to run an errand. When I turned on the fm radio of my car this song started to play. It was a beautiful morning, the sky was sparkling blue with a nice breeze and a few clouds, but the moment I heard the song, I don’t know how but I just knew she had passed away. A few seconds later my brother called me to say that I needed to return to the hospital. He didn’t want to say why but I knew. RIP mom I love and miss you. And thanks for your wonderful music taste. 😘
This song emits such energy. The band is on fire with this one. A great workout song or if you are feeling down it really lifts your spirits. Thank you Bruce!!!🙏🙏🙏
Right? Love his energy in the concert and it just gets me wanting to dance, even though I can't dance. ^^ Just discovered this song a few weeks ago, need to check out more from him, only knew Streets of Philadelphia before I think.
I'm here in August 2, 2022, this song is amazing. It brings back so many good memories when life was so much simpler and socal media wasn't even thought of yet. Man I'd do anything to go back in time to the 80's.
It's a timesless song 🎵 , the lyrics, the beat, the way it makes you feel. Unbelievable, really. A true work of art. One of the greats, Bruce Springsteen
I think all great performers have those things, but every at their given time/era. For me it's clear he had. It´'s too much say that all is only talent, like he was born like that and never trained voice/singing, stage performance (dance), had someone else saying "try this shirt/pants/belt haircut"
40 years later and this song is still a classic! I love Bruce and miss these times! Seeing him pull a young Courteney Cox up on stage gives me chils! Who would have thought she’d be famous and on one of the biggest TV shows of all time in the years to come… fate is a crazy thing❤️
Um...You do know that was an acting job, don't you?! 😳 First all, he was lip-syncing in front of the crowd. She wasn't a random person. 🤦♀️🙄 I still think her name would be a great porn name...🤔
She was chosen from a casting call by director Brian De Palma to appear in the 1984 music video for Bruce Springsteen's "Dancing in the Dark", as the young woman pulled onstage at the St. Paul Civic Center to dance with Springsteen
How I feel.... I can’t stand the pattern of living, but this song always helps me understand that I can change that at any time.... “there’s something happening’ somewhere”. Love the lyrics, his voice, his dancing.
Funny how a song can take your mind back to nearly 40 years ago with crystal clarity but you can't remember what you did last week. A great song and performance, it raises my spirits every time I listen.
I was 14 when this song was released and the memories this song brings to me. My son is 23 and tells me we had the best music. I couldn’t agree with him more. Makes me proud to have grown up during the best decade ever.
It's not real. It was staged for the video. She's explained how it worked - there was a casting call for the role and she got picked due to being a bit gawky and just the right feel to the producers. She was then planted and Bruce told who to pick. Still a great video. But wasn't chance.
I understand now why my mom would dance like that randomly whenever this song would play on her stereo when I was a kid, Now i understand why she did, what a wonderful song... miss you mom 😭
My Husband, loved him some Bruce Springteen music. He is in heaven now. He had a Alfa Romero drop top. We use to jam to this song. "Hollering." This song. The good times.
"You can't start a fire without a spark" man that's absolute classic line. Born In The USA was my most favorite Springsteen song, but listening to this song again and again has changed my mind.
It's 2021 and I'm still listening to this classic, thanks to my mum who introduced Bruce, I still have the cassette of his album "Born in the USA". And I'm just 28.
I may be late commenting on this video and maybe no one will see this comment, but I come here every morning and every day because of my depression. This soothing music helpeed me a lot. I just wanted to say thank you for letting me get through the hard times. If you are reading this I hope you sleep peacefully and wake up happy and well rested🙏🙏🙏!
It’s 2023… 39 years later this song is still living on as an absolute banger. Whoever still listens to this. You are a legend. And you know what real music is.
This is the cream of 80s music!! The unbelievable ease this guy moves around with and the spontaneous vibe Courtney adds up to the scene are pure sublime..!! So nostalgic.....Long live the 80s....!!!
I'm a chef and because of the pandemic I've been working 12 hours a day six days a week. Just trying to keep the restaurant and my neck above water. This has been my theme song. Thanks Boss.
I once heard this song described as the anthem of those who do nightshift. As someone who has just done their last nightshift after two years, I can tell you it hits home. Nightshift has it's pros, my job and the people I worked with I will be forever grateful for, but something in this song... it just hits the right chord
I've worked all shifts at different times, those days gone by. I know what you mean though....drinking at 7 am sometimes lol ... when I was young and dumb and full of .....
@thinchrisful Only when Jonny Rotten and Sid Vicious got together to kick off London Punk .i mean come on all we had was the left over hippies from the Bleedin 60`s until then and along came the Clash ,The Buzzcocks ,The Jam .The Yanks were stuck in the Hippy 60`s Big time
Such a shame that they do not make any more like the boss. A real entertaining talent. I'm 81 years old and I still love him. What a Powerhouse he was!
androcles Sounds to me, after just now listening to this again, like a man who finds himself in a rut. He spots a lady, sitting there with a broken heart, so he says, come on, let's dance, take a chance at being the fire in each other's lives. It could happen, let's take a chance, even if all ends up being is dancing in the dark. Sounds like the average lonely hearts situation to me, for the twenty/thirty something singles scene. There's that big biological drive to find the one you will have a family with, you know, keep the species at a healthy number. Once you get older than that, you lose big drive to find a life mate, then it's more about finding quality people to fill your life with, friends and maybe a partner/soul mate.
Oh my God is that COURTENEY COX?!?!?! She was SO CUTE here!!! I had no idea she was such an adorable tomboy before starring in Friends. Watching her dance onstage with Springsteen is so heartwarming ❤

Great synopsis of this song exactly how the writer feels imo
That's it!
Almost sounds like top governmental sh. ...Or a bad criminal. That or just someone losing it either or
I concur, really cool synopsis. I know the boss has said this song was about himself after his record dealer forced him to make another hit single, after Bruce said he didn’t want to.
So of course being pissed off, he wrote it and you def see his frustrations come out as he’s stuck there sitting around trying to write this down

This man is an international treasure and needs to be protected at any cost.

One of Bruce's most emotional songs. The lyrics just shatter me, every time. It's like a cry for help.
Really? I don't get that at all. Just the opposite.
@@thermality Same
@@thermality exactly, it's a great song but its certainly one of the least "deep" songs he's ever written
Bruce wrote this when he was depressed. He both confesses to himself and try to get up to fight.
One thing I appreciated about Bruce's music was it was all about the working man and real problems, Not just the stereotypical love song

I've Lost my mom 3 years ago, and I have the same feelings about that song and many others we used to listen to together.

Yep that’s very true 😊
That’s why they call him the Boss
Couldn’t have said it better myself 👏👏👍
I think all great performers have those things, but every at their given time/era. For me it's clear he had. It´'s too much say that all is only talent, like he was born like that and never trained voice/singing, stage performance (dance), had someone else saying "try this shirt/pants/belt haircut"
40 years later and this song is still a classic! I love Bruce and miss these times! Seeing him pull a young Courteney Cox up on stage gives me chils! Who would have thought she’d be famous and on one of the biggest TV shows of all time in the years to come… fate is a crazy thing❤️

It's what got her noticed and led to her being in Friends
It's not real. It was staged for the video.
She's explained how it worked - there was a casting call for the role and she got picked due to being a bit gawky and just the right feel to the producers.
She was then planted and Bruce told who to pick.
Still a great video. But wasn't chance.
I didn’t realize it was staged until now. I thought it was just a coincidence she was picked.

You maybe forgot Born to Run?
androcles Never really listened to the words in depth. I will and I will get back to you.
androcles Sounds to me, after just now listening to this again, like a man who finds himself in a rut.
Springsteen has reached far higher artistic peaks, but this is one of his catchiest tunes.
born to run is the best
