  • I had promised myself that in 2022 I would build my 1/32 Wingnut Wings Felixstowe but plans always go awry! This Roden kit has the specific modifications I was hoping to do to my Wingnut kit, so let's have a look with the potential to add this to the build queue before the end of 2022...

    They had wings and they flew , I do love WW1 aircraft, for the paint schemes -they didn't try to camoflage just said " come on lets have a go." With bright schemes. The French had a copper color that to this day is still a mystery for camoflage, I'm still researching. I'll be anxious to see what colors, (colours), you use and how to add the support cabling, I usually just tied a granny knot around the struts and put the model high up on the shelf :-) Good to see a video on something affordable and not ginormous.

      I'll probably go the "tie it off to the underside of the upper wing, drill hole in lower wing, pull through, glue underneath lower wing, cut off excess" with this one, although with EZ line, its quite easy to get it where you want. Good practice for the 1/32 jobbie!

    I'll start my Roden Gotha and you start your Felixstowe and we'll see who finishes first. Ready, GO!😅

      Eep after seeing David at Plasmo make this, I'm not too sure I'll start it anytime soon.....

    Hi Chris, Well this has grabbed my attention, really looking forward to this build. I'll make sure I have a fresh cup of coffee and a perhaps a Tim-Tam or three.

      You'll need a box or three! I'll be taking this build quite slowly, a little bit at a time I think, but we'll see!!

    Really looking forward to seeing this built, I've been trying to get this very kit for ages.....wonderful

      Me too David, I hope it inspires me to get on to the big 1/32 one, but it looks like a fab kit all by itself...

    Used to be I would hold out hope I lived long enough to see the next Star Wars or to go on the next big vacation. Now I just hope to live to see Chris' WNW Felixstowe build. I'll take this in the meantime though!

    Haven’t seen this version built before. Check out Max’s Models. He built the WingNut Wings version not too long ago. Looking forward to seeing you build this one. Thanks for sharing. Happy days and model on! 😎🇨🇦

      Thanks Peter, yeah Im all over any of the 1/32 builds - KLP has a new book out that I'm dying to get that has Gary Boxall's brilliant build. I'm looking forward to this one too!

    Oh I see....
    I see how this works now....
    He's (he who shall not be named) working his way into your modelling now....
    This is just the beginning, can't you see it, here you're building a flying boat, see BOAT....soon enough you'll be building wheels up ships!
    He's got under your skin with his ship fetish, escape while you can!
    Needless to say, we have an undercover agent working on the inside! 😉😆😂

      HA! I actually have quite a few model ships, one that has stalled but i want to get back to - a pre Dreadnought....but i can see the plan!

  • @rayb241
    @rayb241 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    The guns are Lewis guns. Not Vickers... Vickers are belt fed, whereas the lewis have drums on top. I have this model in my stash, so i'm settling in to watch

      Thanks Ray, I always get confused with these details but easy to discern once I'm off camera!

    Just built the Roden 1/48 Nieuport 28, and it was a real mixed bag, so I'll be watching this one with interest, I'd love to build a Felixstowe in this scale, but I'm a bit skeptical of rodent quality from the boxes I've pawed through.

    • @beckersmodels
      @beckersmodels  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, old Roden kits are somewhat hit and miss, and the quality on this one isnt the best, but fixable. AT least the surface detail is very good! Cheers Chris

    • @themigmadmarine
      @themigmadmarine ปีที่แล้ว

      Yea, does look a step forward, parts still seem fairly chunky. Is it still very soft plastic?

  • @cratecruncher6687

    I appreciate your time reviewing this kit. But instead of telling us Roden's gates should be small enough for your giant wire snippers perhaps you should invest $3.00 in a good set of razor-sharp sprue saws or even a low profile sprue cutter. The reason we put up with flash and opaque clear parts from this company is because there are no others making these obscure subjects in anything but "gargantuan scale" and they ain't gonna change for you or me. The surface detail on the kits is excellent or I wouldn't waste my time. Most of the thin stick parts get scratch built and the decals go in the trash.

    • @beckersmodels
      @beckersmodels  ปีที่แล้ว

      I indeed have a variety of saws and cutters for these sorts of kits, like the Revell 1/32 F-14 which has near 30mm long sprue attachment points along the leading edge of the wing, or old Airfix kits with chunky runners that I like to build as well. I even get out the Proxxon drill with a rotary attachment sometimes....
      I don't just build Tamiya with tiny sprue nubs that only require a set of ladies nail clippers, you need to apply the right tool to the job. But they are what they are, and thats why I explain them for those modellers out there without the experience of dealing with different levels of kit design and manufacture.

      @@beckersmodels - don't build Tamiya? And you have a near-identical cadence and style of speech to HarryH. Are you his son? Or just hung around with him too much? And you have it a bit backwards - the hull was the British part (plus the RR engines) and the flying surfaces were the Curtiss America-type.

      It cant be too hard, or no one would do it...checks online builds of the Felixstowe: tumbleweeds go past...

      I chose the White swirls on a Red fuselage. My optimitrist was amazed. So was I!

  • @crunter
    @crunter ปีที่แล้ว +1

    For Rigging in this scale,I use stretched sprue on the Front to Back struts and fishing line for the others,ie side to side, you have to drill tiny holes in the Fuselage for these

    • @beckersmodels
      @beckersmodels  ปีที่แล้ว

      I was thinking of using stretched sprue but we'll see...
