  • Hey guys, Modelling Weekly here! Well, it's been a while due to my A level exams, however they're now over, so it's time to get back on that TH-cam grind - kicking it off today with a beautiful kit from Eduard - "The dog plane", as dubbed by my Girlfriend! Enjoy!
    Thanks for watching the video! If there is anything you want to know, or anything you want me to know feel free to ask!

    There is building a model, and then there is art.
    The wood finish, the shading, the weathering. Those are what sets these models in that above and beyond category.

    Beautifully done👍🏻 Biplanes are underrated , the combination of metal, wood, and fabric, that you mastered on this model is very nice. I built a Nieuport 17, by Academy that was nowhere close to this quality and skill, but still fun to build and I love the efficient low tech of these planes. Thank you for sharing.👋🏻

    @billyredtail 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    Gah I'm the year below you and when I heard you were doing this on top of your A-levels I was just amazed as to how you manage to get on with it with such a workload? I haven't made any models at all this year because when I start one, I always guilt trip myself into doing more Maths instead. And when I'm burnt out from that, I'll end up doing the most useless thing possible and watching TH-cam all evening! Honestly inspirational though because making model aircraft has always been a huge benefit to my mental health and I must be able to find time for it if you can make whole videos on it!

    • @ModellingWeekly
      @ModellingWeekly  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yeah it's been a pretty stressful period to say the least haha. There was roughly a 3 week period before exams started where I barely did any modelling, however before then it was just a case of time management to be fair - on a weekly basis I set myself revision targets that I had to meet, and as a self-reward for those I allowed myself to have Saturdays off with reduced workload on Sundays (this is the period that I did most of my modelling and TH-cam work). Alongside this I did manage to fit some modelling in the evenings, as I made sure to stop revising by 18:00 every day to make sure I wasn't burnt out. But yeah, just a case of setting yourself targets and allowing yourself to have some personal time without feeling guilty about it :) best of luck with your exams next year mate, you'll smash them, and don't stress too much! 👍

    • @billyredtail
      @billyredtail 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@ModellingWeekly Thankyou so much for the detailed reply! That sounds like a good strategy honestly. I found myself working very late into the night this year and I reckon by the time exams came around, I was burnt out. I do work in a museum on Sundays so I give myself that time off but I really want to be able to do more modelling. I really appreciate the advice and well done on your Gladiator video. I just watched it and it was stunning!

  • @paulgarner3541
    @paulgarner3541 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    Loved the build and the fastidious paintwork. Impressive, almost daunting as I set out to build my first plastic kit, a similar aircraft. This praise may soften the blow of my only criticism which is the “music”. It did not enhance the experience at all and was boringly repetitive and even intrusive. Your voice is good enough alone to carry the video but something is needed; the sound equivalent of a base coat. Maybe treat the background sounds like you do your painting; mottling for example with silences, airbrush sounds, subliminal music with varying motifs. Think a little more of the viewer experience; the whole video is the product not just the exquisite model and the “how to” components - which are a joy to watch.
    I hope you don’t mind these remarks and take them in the spirit intended. pg

    • @ModellingWeekly
      @ModellingWeekly  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I'm glad you liked the model! I completely understand what you mean with the backing track, and I can definitely understand that for some people it detracts from the overall experience to varying extents. I do want to switch it up, and I've been working with the guy who does my music for a while now to think up some new content. At the same time however, I've had a huge amount of praise over the past few years for the smooth and unchanging background music, as I've been told that it sort of smooths out the video and makes it a calming watch - so you can imagine that with conflicting views it's hard to decide what step to take haha. I've also experimented in the past with airbrush and modelling sounds, however it's impossible to record these live due to background noises in the house, as well as my extraction fan which is incredibly loud and overpowering haha.
      Might put it down to a channel poll or something like that, because at the end of the day I want to follow what the fans want! I appreciate your comment.

    • @ModellingWeekly
      @ModellingWeekly  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Cheers! It kind of depends what I'm doing - for parts that will receive quite a bit of strain like landing gear legs I'll most likely opt for ca, but for most parts a little bit of cement is ok (unless they're really small, in which case I'll go back to CA as the melted paint will be really obvious otherwise)

    An excellent tutorial for my first attempt at using oils on models. I did the cockpit interior walls yesterday and the paint still hasn't dried. It looks like your paint dries immediately and you've able to varnish right away. Or are you waiting for it to dry? Thanks again. Can't wait to tackle the rest of this model.

    • @ModellingWeekly
      @ModellingWeekly  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hey! I waited for about 5 or 6 hours for mine to dry. It's odd yours hasn't - what did you use to thin it? And what brand of oil paint did you use? Also, sometimes the excess oil in the paint can be a problem if you don't drain it away using a piece of cardboard to begin with.

    • @sebsi23
      @sebsi23 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I'm using cheap hobby store paints (I know, I know...). Thinned with (you guessed it) cheap hobby store thinner. I opened the tubes for the first time (same colors as you) and large blobs of oil came out. I should have done something about that. Next time! @@ModellingWeekly

    • @ModellingWeekly
      @ModellingWeekly  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@sebsi23 ahh, fair enough - yeah, I reckon the main issue will be the excess oil in the paint - if you apply blobs of the paint to a piece of card and leave it to soak for half an hour, the excess oil should mainly be removed and you'll be ok (hopefully!) As you say, always next time!
