    Awesome job Chris! Excellent example of “just enough” weathering to tell the story. Makes me want to build a Star Wars subject now!

      Thanks Bruce, yeah I wanted to hold back a little as I do see a lot of Y Wings "over" weathered (sic) and this looks nearly enough to me. Go and do it, I want to finish the diorama I had planned for my 1/48 Andor X-Wing....

    I just stumbled across this while researching weathering and under-basing for older kits with raised panel lines; I'm about to start a 1:48 Revell kit of the F-105G. I hadn't even considered looking at starship model stuff, but yep! Lots of raised parts to these kits, and this video was just gold!!! Really detailed and thorough and I'm excited now to start this build. Gonna watch more of them, thank you so much for making this video and posting for us to try and learn from! ~Rob

    Wow. Chris , that is really well done ! The mottling and under coat really bring out the details on the body . Maybe the best I've ever seen . The chipping looks really good . I even enjoyed the sound effects while you were spraying .

      Heh heh I'll probably get a copyright strike on those sound effects, but why not use them! Cheers, thanks for the kind comments Tom, I appreciate it...

    Fantastic work. Holding out hope Fine Molds might re-release their Star Wars line one day, but perhaps their licensing deal is no longer active and too expensive now to renew. Bandai's production rate is too slow; limited releases every 5-7 years makes it very difficult to get hands on their kits unless you're ready to purchase as soon as retailers have them available. A shame really as there are no other quality options currently. Perhaps Round 2 will wow modelers with their new tool 1/32 TIE fighter; time will tell. Model on Mr. Becker, thanks for sharing your time and talents.

      Im looking forward to that Round 2 TIE Fighter, but not so sure after seeing their Razorcrest, although it seems that was designed to a price point, just like the Revell one. I have invested in a big 3D printer to make my own studio scale Star Wars stuff since there's been an explosion of files available, so you don't have to rely on Bandai - who I love - for the larger (and also not covered at all - Tydirium Shuttle, TIE Bomber etc) subjects...cheers Chris

    Now if only Bandai would release a 1/48 Y Wing !!

    • @beckersmodels
      @beckersmodels  ปีที่แล้ว

      Well one of the reasons I invested in a big 3D printer was so I can make my own in any scale since they seem reluctant to do so! I'm actually wanting to do 1/32 or 1/24.... :D

    Great work! No canopy glass? Gutsy move you've got grit mate. Thank you for the informative process.

      @beckersmodels  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks mate - yeah the original models had no glass either for photo purposes, well thats my excuse anyway!

      Its a great scheme isnt it - my rendition is not perfect, just trying to go for something like it. Maybe I'll do it justice in a larger scale Y-Wing one day. Cheers, Chris

    Looks cool. I was also thinking about a Y-wing model but my wish list is very long. :)

    Nicely restrained. Star War models don't look right covered in panel washes.

    • @beckersmodels
      @beckersmodels  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah I didnt want to go to town with full panel line wash, it doesn't look quite right to me. Also spraying those blotches of faint yellow or brown was how ILM did it in their studio models, so again, I wanted it to look more like the original than say, a "Spanish" style of weathering...

    • @mattperson7293
      @mattperson7293 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@beckersmodels Not that you need it, since I think you made the right call with this one and nailed it, but I can highly recommend John Simmons channel. There's a handful of people I could name who've really studied the ILM style but he's kind enough to document a lot of the techniques in youtube videos www.youtube.com/@johnsimmonsscalemodelling5270

  • @Octopootie1
    @Octopootie1 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Looks really good! It reminds me a lot of ILM's weathering style and I think you pulled off the Reefer White look excellently. I think I still have 1 or 2 of these Fine Molds Y-Wings in my stash, and when I get around to building them I'll be coming back to this video for some inspiration.

    Nice chipping effect you done there. Just go confirm, did you use hairspray or AK chipping fluid for the red portion?

    • @beckersmodels
      @beckersmodels  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I used the AK chipping fluid, the heavy one - which is very similar to using an off brand hairspray decanted into the airbrush. I just ran out of my $2 bottle, I think my daughter stole it for her hair!
