Just recently found your channel. Thank you so much for presenting the beauty of Superior with the respect it deserves. I am old now but spent much of my young adult life experiencing nature the way you are here. Hard to put it into words but you have brought me back to what is really important in this world. You are very skilled at making these videos …. Dont change anything !
Thank you for taking me on this journey as I am going on 84 and can’t get around much . I used to love my fishing trip to Canada. Keep on going while you can. Thank you
Watching this is such an amazing treat for me. I paddled the North Shore of Lake Superior many times when I was a young man back in the 1960's and 1970's. The opportunity you have to do this trip is a gift for you and a rare gift for us to ride with along. The trip harkens back to a simpler time that seems lost in this phony and complicated world we find ourselves in. That area will always be a wilderness, long after humans have burned out and are gone from the earth. So timeless.

You have created an incredible paean to Lake Superior. This video could have been broadcast on NOVA or Nature or National. In fact, it should be. I do not know how but, somehow, you managed to accumulate the boatload of good karma required to get an opportunity like this. When I was young, I did not have the freedom. WOW, one of the best pieces you’ve done. Gitchie Gumee is so inspirational and life giving to many of us. Cheers to Mr. Abbey as well. Keep it up John!
What a cool trip Jon. Little but of everything on this tour.......fishing, big water crossing, lake superior beauty, hiking, exploring and geology. Great work putting this all together. Lots of work for sure. Hope the rest of your paddling season has gone as well as this trip did. Cheers brother. (love the thumbnail btw).
I have no words to describe such beauty. Finally reaching Old Woman’s bay tomorrow. Thank you Jon for making us part of this magical place that is Lake Superior!
Mrmbbb on TH-cam constantly receives submissions of all rainbow variants. I submitted a rainbow pic to him that visibly showed it ending on the road in front of my truck. 4s are rare but not unusual
There's so much to say about this but I'll stay short. What a beautiful movie experience and trip. Lake Superior is more than I thought it was. I love adventures and this made me feel calm and relaxed during these hard times. Great Work!

Wow Jon. What a spectacular journey. As always your humor is so much appreciated. I don't know if you hear this enough, but your ability to capture stunning video of the places you go does the wilderness there so much justice. You really show the beauty of these places so well, the flora and fauna, the landscape. Great work on the video, looked like you had an amazing time, can't wait for what's next.
You've become one of Ontario's greatest adventurers. I've been watching your videos for years, and this one scared me more than the others. Superior is a beast and the weather can change on a whim, not to mention that water is always deadly cold. Travelling alone like that is incredibly brave. Great video bahd!
I’m from Michigan and I have spent a lot of time in the upper peninsula along Lake Superior’s southern shore. I have never seen the northern shore and it is so beautiful! What an amazing experience, thank you for sharing!
Took me six days to watch this video (middle of canning season for the garden). I am central Kentucky and now I want to paddle to the entrance of the Ohio; maybe a four day trip... THANK YOU. God Bless and stay safe.
I picked up on your love for life and everything this planet has, and it's refreshing. I can relate. Keep doing well man. The 10 day Great lakes vid was my first now I'm here and will continue watching!

I had some comments lined up but I ended up watching this video over the course of a few days and lost most of what I had written down so ill just sum it up! I thoroughly enjoyed the video Jon - lots of great funny moments and of course the educational ones as well. loved the rainbows, crying beavers, fishing (As usual), and the scenery, also loved the cave thumbnail ( I loled pretty hard). Great stuff as usual my man! Looked like an amazing trip, great ending running into those people that recognized you! thats a cool moment! it seems as if you've been everywhere at this point, clearly your last name is a suitable one Jon Ontario!

Thanks for allowing us to follow you on this journey! I've been curious about islands in the Great Lakes for a long time, and since Tim O'Brien is one of my favorite authors I have a fascination with the forests in these areas that he's described many times in his novels. So it's cool to get to see some of the stuff.
Having sailed and paddled most of that outer shore, I share your passion for the big lake. You captured the raw beauty and told a good story. Great video!
This is my 2nd time watching this and wanted to say, until this video, I have NEVER (in my 71 yrs) witnessed a river flowing into a lake...pretty darn cool.
Thanks a lot Shawn and very sorry to hear that. It's very challenging to suddenly have physical limitations like that so my heart goes out to you and I hope you'll find yourself in better health very soon
Wow John! I really enjoyed this, thank you! I think my favourite part was the end actually, when you had the Brook on, and talking to the other boat while trying to land an epic fish, and listening to his enthusiasm, a new fan of Lost Lakes for sure. Your vids have come so far, and you ability to narrate and tell us all what you’re seeing and feeling is top notch. Perhaps a book is in your future, and someone down the road will be thanking you!
Lake Superior is amazing. I’m from the shores of Lake Michigan, but visited Lake Superior and the crystal clear water and the rock formations are gorgeous. Never got a chance to fish it though.
Truly appreciate your channel man! As a guy from Florida I love getting to see your adventures. Had a canoe trip in the u.p. as a kid and this brings back memories.
The rainbows! That must have your mind spinning. We caught pics of the first four rainbows anomaly about two weeks ago. May have been the same ones you see! Great video. Killer fish. Priest lake. Caught my one and only lakey.
Wow congratulations John, over half a million views….you deserve it, the cinematography gets better and better, watching you build your craft is exciting to watch.
The scenery was amazing on this trip, its been a while since I've visited Lake Superior and this was a great video capturing its raw beauty. I want to echo the other comments, thanks for naming off the islands and bays, I actually had a google map open while watching the entire video so I could follow along!
As a city dweller and nature novice, I have only been on the big lake a handful of times, so I am living vicariously via others. This was very well done and informstive. I did some sailing around Mantiou years ago. Kayacking/canoe is hardcore! Respect
"Watch at your own pace"... Clearly you under estimate by binge watching abilities lol. Trip looked amazing, hope to get to Northern Superior sometime soon!
Very few people have gotten to see four rainbows at the same time. I have. It helps to be wearing sunglasses I think. Sometimes I can see rainbow colors in the clouds when wearing them. Most people just shoot me a doubting smirk when I tell them I've seen 4 rainbows at once. I'm glad someone has documented it on video. Thank you!
Stupendous! My favorite Lost Lakes video (thus far). The only thing that could have made it better, and you’ll agree, would be Erin in the bow. I really like the way you set it up as a long video with chapters to reference for shorter viewing episodes. *I got the Scotty rod holder and gunnel clamp mount along with the Duo-Lock snaps through your link. 👍🏻
Great watch!! Grew up on Lake Superior but have been living in Tasmania for 16 years. Didn't realize how much I missed Giche Gumee, definitely scheduling a trip to the north shore on my next visit home! Thanks heaps for taking the time to put this together.
Thanks a lot John! That's quite a contrast. It's my favourite lake and after living here in Marathon for a few years, I find it hard to imagine leaving it
I’ve had a few adventures on this beautiful lake. But now at 60 it’s to hard for me. I do appreciate this wonderful video and the memories that sparked in my mine once again.
Thank you for letting me join you on this journey as I recoup from leg surgery on my couch. Between surgery and Covid I've not been able to get out much since November 2020. Be free, happy, blessed and kind.
I feel for you Rebecca...the couch is a great place to be, except when you're stuck there for extended periods. Hang in there and glad you could escape here a bit. Thanks for joining me!
Wow good eye. I couldn't find it until I cocked my head to the left, then it popped. The light orange centre of the rock, with the snout pointing down. Thanks BB!
Did anyone else see the “face” in the rock sticking up at Otter Island? Time stamp 56:59. Kinda reminds me of the carved rock faces on Easter Island. Very cool.
Incredible!! Thank you so much for the awesome video! Keep up the great work; I'm glad you were able to quit your job and pursue your passions! I can't wait to see what your next paddling season will hold!
Really enjoying your videos. This was my first and over the last week, I’ve been watching more and more of them. Inspiring on many levels, from contemplating getting a canoe to me literally just stopping before throwing something out to see if it is recyclable (based on a comment you made in one of your other videos about how we are destroying the beautiful things you show so well in your videos). I thought you should know that you are having a positive impact. Safe travels and thanks for sharing your journeys.
Late night, can’t sleep and your awesome video pops up. Thanks for sharing a trip I’ll never be able to take. I felt like I was there. I’m hooked! Your appreciation for life is beautiful. Beavers cry? What?
I had to prep myself for an LOTR length film. Great work Jon, showing the World the beauty of the North Shore! I love the Speck at the end just amazing 🤩
Awesome video Jon. You are in your element and doing something you are passionate about. It comes through in your videos and make it so enjoyable to watch. We made a trip up that way in July for a family wedding and stopped in Rossport. That entire coastline is so gorgeous. Thanks again for taking the time to record, edit and post this amazing video. Oh, and I loved the interaction with the boaters at the end!!
Amazing, I loved the way you kept telling us where you were. Naming the islands and the bay's as you go. I felt like I was following you on the map. Thank you for letting us see this amazing trip.
Jon, EXCELLENT adventure. That plant you were wondering about with all the insects on it looked like a Giant Rhubarb. Herb family but not actually related to the Rhubarb family. Just looks like them. Thanks for taking us along. Superior is def on my bucket list now.
Your enthusiasm, joy and appreciation for nature and all her wonder is awesome and really comes through in your videos. Your so lucky to have these opportunities, I'm so jealous 👍🌟
I loved the joy you bring just being out in nature, Your vids have come so far, the skies, rainbows ,finding beautiful stones and the wild was my favourite part ,your ability to narrate and tell us all what you’re seeing and feeling is top notch.
Loved every minute. The colour of the water, the arches, the breathtaking vistas, and more. The Alanis cover was very silly. Interestingly, we saw Sandhill Cranes in the Kawartha Highlands this past week. I had no clue what they were when we heard them. I just learned, then heard them again in your video. Thank you for sharing this wonderful adventure! 💜
I watched the entire show in one sitting. Enjoyed it very much. What a beautiful trip. I think this trip would be 100X better if it were with a love one. Thanks for taking the time to do the video, can't imagine how long it took to edit.
@Fishing Addict there are pros and cons with going with your partner. I am pretty slow in or out of the water (even when i was young, this was an issue).... so you have to be a very well matched pair, physically, mentally etc for it to work well. Extended walking trips with my guy worked well, but not so much the kayaking... (the wind resistance was a bit misery making for me) but the bits we did on calm days, for short trips were fun though.
John I find myself going back and watching. Brings me a lot of peace
For me, this is the best travel/adventure channel.

Lake Superior is amazing. I’m from the shores of Lake Michigan, but visited Lake Superior and the crystal clear water and the rock formations are gorgeous. Never got a chance to fish it though.
Very beautiful area ! Thanks for taking us along !
Cool. New here. You speak just enough. We here the waves and nature just enough.
Beautiful Country up there. I love the color of the water up there. Been to Wawa. Nice there. You pick the best places to go. Live life!
Truly appreciate your channel man! As a guy from Florida I love getting to see your adventures. Had a canoe trip in the u.p. as a kid and this brings back memories.
Very much appreciated!
The rainbows! That must have your mind spinning. We caught pics of the first four rainbows anomaly about two weeks ago. May have been the same ones you see! Great video. Killer fish. Priest lake. Caught my one and only lakey.
Thanks so much Scott! I remember my first laker too...Lake Simcoe :) Amazing that you saw a quad too. This one was back in June
Hahahahaha Super Awesomenessssss....Thanks for Sharing the Fabulfulness of these lakes....And the Edmond Fitzgerald hahaha
Respect
Very much appreciated!

Thank you!
My first lost-lakes video. Watched the entire thing and I really enjoyed it. Thanks for this. Will be catching more lost-lakes.
1:33:55 wolf face in rock. Great videos.
Very cool.
Yes I saw that as well....thought it looked like the face of a dog
Totally
Fantastic! This will be one to rewatch on a long winter’s night.
You’re verily verily blessed. May God bless you & Erin
Spectacular. Extremely spiritual. What a wonderful life you've chosen to live.
💚💚
Thoroughly enjoyed the experience you set make this! A great reminder of how beautiful nature really is...
Incredible!! Thank you so much for the awesome video! Keep up the great work; I'm glad you were able to quit your job and pursue your passions! I can't wait to see what your next paddling season will hold!
Very much appreciated Dustin!! I can't wait for paddling this year either 😁
What?
North shore of Lake Superior in Ontario, Canada
I swear you capture the craziest happenings in nature. The bird fight was epic! W trip!!
Love the video the quad rainbow and bird fight was epic!!!!!!!!!!!
I feel calmer after watching this. Love this side of youtube.
Jon, EXCELLENT adventure. That plant you were wondering about with all the insects on it looked like a Giant Rhubarb. Herb family but not actually related to the Rhubarb family. Just looks like them. Thanks for taking us along. Superior is def on my bucket list now.
Thank you so much Chuck! Whatever it was, STUNK like poop!
What an awesome trip! This is now one of my favorites and you did an excellent job of editing the adventure! Thank you!
Your enthusiasm, joy and appreciation for nature and all her wonder is awesome and really comes through in your videos.
Your so lucky to have these opportunities, I'm so jealous 👍🌟
Thank you so much Kara. I'm spoiled :)
About 20:00 in is just great advice for camping from a safety perspective. Love it
I loved the joy you bring just being out in nature, Your vids have come so far, the skies, rainbows ,finding beautiful stones and the wild was my favourite part ,your ability to narrate and tell us all what you’re seeing and feeling is top notch.
Appreciate that so much 💚💚
Loved every minute.
