This is such a sweet video, thank you 🙏🏼it's absolutely precious how much those girls clearly love you. I have a couple of (very) elderly babydoll southdowns that I inherited from the previous owner of the property I live at, but am going to start transitioning the herd to Finns later this year - they seem like such a wonderful breed and one that really ticks all the boxes I'm looking for. Very excited about it!!
Hello from NY. I have been raising Finnsheep exclusively since 2010. I currently have a flock of 20. 16 ewes and four rams. What bloodline do your sheep come from ?
Interesting video, thank you for posting. I am curious what challenges there are with lambing Finn sheep. I understand they tend to have larger numbers of lambs, and was thinking there could be challenges with availability of milk naturally for the lambs. Wondering how much supplementation would be necessary. Is that something you are able to speak to? Thank you in advance!
Yes Finn Sheep can get many lambs, but the normal is 2-3 lambs, but 4-5 lambs are not abnormal and 6-7 lambs are something that happens very rare. A good ewe can easily fit 3 lamb herself, but if you are higher up to the number of lambs, they need help. Many greetings from a sheep breeder in Denmark.
I raise finnsheep in finland. It depends on the mother. First time moms might abandon some but the older ewes do well with 3-4. Important in my experience is to leave them alone as much as possible during the first days. Our genepool has a lot of variation and some are nearly wild while others are armpitworms like on the video. The wild ones seem to do best with large culls when left alone. Plenty of food - good milk production is also key. We lamb during winter and to kickstart milk production we give oats, increasing toward birth. Finnsheep also need copper so supplementation is a bit different. Ground eggshells also help during lactation. Also as a heritage breed they do well with a bit worse feed, some get easily fat and that might make early pregnancy worse. But all n all, they are awsome, i reccomend watching this video about finnsheep in their natural habitat: Il post separetly
Totally depends on the specific line and can vary from ewe to ewe. I know a few ladies getting a quart a day at peak while lamb sharing, which is great imo from a ewe that small
I milk some finnsheep eves who have only or mostly rams. Id say on avarage 2deciliters per milking. Makes awsome halloumi 😅 though first time milking took almost an houer but end of summer a few minutes per ewe
Finally, more Finnsheep content! Hello from a fellow Finn shepherdess in NY
There really aren't many Finnsheep videos on here! Hello to you as well!

That is so exciting! Finnsheep are absolutely wonderful, and we love every one of them.
Beautiful flock. I have a lacaune cross ewe that also paws you if you stop petting! Haha
Can’t wait to see more sheep videos
She sounds so very sweet!
@@LostRiverHomestead sometimes too sweet! When you’re trying to get chores done lol
Do you have finnsheep yarn yet? So excited to see it!
Not yet! We just sheared them, and I am not sure how long it will take for the mill to process the yarn.

How about the milk. How litre can milk per day.?
I'm not sure how much milk you can get from a Finnsheep. My daughter is planning to milk one of our ewes so we will find out!
