      They are made from aluminum, and i think that the brass heatsinkers also had to be made from aluminum. Becouse it gives heat faster away. (just theory)

      A lot of the stuff he used, he could have easily went out and bought off of the shelf parts, like brass tubes and aluminum washers, but he made them all from scratch. It shows his dedication to everything and it's good to see someone teaching others how to build things.

      I was kinda curious why not use that small CNC mill he was using to drill the holes to also cut the outline, and just need to nip out a near-finished spacer? Oh well only the builder in the moment with the tools and materials around can know what decision is best. I'd have to do it ALL by hand. :P

      I was thinking he should have used copper instead of brass. I just found this online.
      Even though brass is mostly copper, its alot less conductive.

      @Yuck Foutube As a machinist myself, I understand an appreciate the complexity to make these projects function properly. You do understand that you couldn't make and keep accurate tolerances with "hand tools" right ? Please show me a version on a scaled down engine with every part made with a hand saw, hammer and sandpaper ? There will never be one because that's stupid and not possible, theres manual CNC lathes which he used along with some programmed milling but as far as craftsmanship this is as good as it gets. You clearly have no idea what u are speaking about.
      Here I'll try one next, "hey that turbine engine isnt that impressive dood, you should make it out of paper and a rock" duh duhdah

      Bryan O a machinist would have put the holed blanks onto a bolt with a shaft, nut driving’s together and no slippage would have occurred in the lathe. That’s the only difference I would have changed. Otherwise a brilliant job well done.

    When you look at it with the coolant hooked up and working that reduction in temperature is close to what a real car engine runs.
    Between 180 - 195 degrees. But most cars have thermostats to regulate the cooling. Yours is doing really good at that temperature.
    Cant wait to see what you put the whole engine in.

    Taking any material in your experienced hands and giving to it new purpose was totally joy to watch , you have the equipment , the knowledge and the passion for it , to me that is a talent and the whole video was awesome in general ! I might not know even half of those tools were used , or have any idea at all how to give life to an engine whatsoever , but i can tell this much , you did it with love and therefore you got my respect !!!!     When I was in highschool, Holmes High School in Covington KY, they have an awesome Vocational Program there. I took graphic arts ( printing and photography), but if I knew now, back then, about the printing industry, I seriously would have leaned more towards metal shop, and welding skills. Everything in the printing industry is going digital ( straight from desk top, to the printing press which is more like a big home printer now). Then, "take off" ( there are different names for this type of work at different shops, but you basically stack off the printed work into piles on a skid) is being done by a robot of some sort. It's getting to where one person can run a whole press by themselves, and not need a second, third, or fourth pressman ( or how ever many people you need to run a press depending upon how big. Some printing presses use to take up whole buildings)..
    Well, probably even with this type of work, certain parts of it are being phased out by some sort of automation???? I just know the printing industry has changed drastically in the past 20 years.

    In a normal sized engine, a thermostat is used to control coolant flow between the radiator and engine in order to keep the engine from staying too cold and also prevent sudden temperature changes. In a small engine like this at higher RPM under load, its possible that the coolant won't stay in the radiator long enough to cool down, and not long enough on the engine head to absorb that heat. It may not be observed with the engine idling without any load. I wonder how the temps looks at higher RPM with load on the engine. In such a small cooling system, it may be a challenge to build a temperature operated flow control valve (fancy words to describe a thermostat), but it could be a nice add-on and it could see better heat exchange. Also I expected the cooling fins to be soldered for better heat transfer. I love the videos, keep em' coming! Thanks!

      i would have heat shrunk the fins onto the pipes. holes a bit too small, heat them up and quickly press onto pipes.
      you could perhaps disassemble a normal heatervalve from ta house install for the expanding wax-element, the rest is just a membrane, piston and spring.
      i dont know if there are temp regulating heater valves below 1/2" to simply buy.

    You should make a bypass valve for the radiator. The tubes may explode if the volume of the coolant grows because of heat

      the top pipe of the radiator can hold enough of an air bubble.
      most car radiators have only an air space the size of a fist for a at least 20x larger cooling system/expanding liquid.
      edit: those old chunky car radiators also simply had the air a top in the radiator.

      @@PsiQ Modern cars (those with a 'sealed' coolant system) have space in the expansion bottle (Approx 50% air when cold) and run up to about 1.1 bar. However, when the pressure exceeds this, the cap has a pressure release spring, allowing excess coolant and pressure to vent.
      Older vehicles, (or those with a semi-sealed system) the engine and radiator have NO air pockets in. Instead, the radiator cap is again, sprung loaded to about 1 bar, allowing excess pressure to bleed off into a remotly installed expansion bottle. As the engine cools, the coolant contracts, creating a vacuum inside the cooling system. A smaller spring located inside the pressure cap allows the system to draw the coolant back in from the expansion bottle.
      Neither system allows the pressure to build to potentially dangerous levels, they all have some method of venting excess pressure.
      Interestingly, the reason vehicle have their cooling systems pressurised at operating temprature is to increase the coolants effective boiling point. I forget the exact numbers, but the coolant in a car effectivly boils at about 125-130C. When you unscrew a cap from a hot system, the coolant is already above boiling point (100C) and now with no pressure to keep it in its liquid state, instantly becomes a gas (boils). This is why you get that coolant explosion when you release the pressure on a hot system.

      A PC liquid cooling radiator would work great actually it would perform tons better and only cost ~$30...plus the tons of cheap fan options at 12v

    10:45 look man, you did a great job so far (I haven't finished) but I need to ask, is there a specific reason to have the inlet and outlet on the same side? Wouldn't it be better to have them furthest distance apart? I am genuinely curious. Is it a packaging reason or did you just "what ever it doesn't matter" it?

      shouldnt really matter. The coolant will fill the larger volume before traveling to the bottom area. Lots of automotive radiators are like this.

      @@ChuckWood When it come to automotive radiators this is not the case. Many are 2 or more radiators stacked but look like one. So coolant enters the top right then flows thru the top half to the left. On the left side coolant is allowed to drop to the bottom half and flows right to the outlet. The rad he built is more like an old 50s hot rod style and need inlet and outlet on different sides to make full use. Water is like electricity it will take the path of lease resistance and you can see that at 25:50 that one side is much cooler.

      I agree with @@josephdecesaro1528. Automotive radiators are split in the middle and the coolant flows through the whole radiator in a "S" shape. Goes in at the top left, fills top half of radiator then enters bottom half from the right side then exits from the bottom left. The ends of the radiator are called the end tanks and that's where the splits are.

      Joseph DeCesaro if he build it in the typical „S“-Flow-Design the efficiency would be better. Although with this small amount of Water its pretty good yet. The Water needs more Way to travel to submit more heat to the fins

    Once upon a time, I had all the machines I needed.
    Then my garage burned and everything in it was destroyed.
    The insurance covered a new garage, but not my machines.
    I was 56 then and didn't want to start from scratch again.
    Make sure you have comprehensive insurance
    Now I am 59 and live a quiet life.

    Fyi.
